Who is the best at 140?

Mathysse looking like the best right now but I would rank Garcia ahead of him right now

Apparently Garcia had some pretty credible amateur experience, so he could outbox Rios and Maidana, but if he decides to trade I agree they'd annihilate him! I dont mind Danny but I agree, Alvarado and Peterson would beat him also! He's doing well at the moment but he seems too limited. I'd love to see how his power would hold up against guys like Brandon, Alvarado and Lucas. I think Garcia is limited and the guys mentioned would walk through his IMO and land destructive shots of their own and Garcia was rattled vs Judah. I also think any guy that fights on thr inside would give Danny huuuuuge trouble. He seems to struggle in close and is limited to wide loopy shots. Brandon sits on the inside and would finish Garcia pretty easy.

I gave a slight bump to Khan because of his resume at junior welterweight. He has fought Kotelnik, Salita, Maidana, Judah, Peterson (a fight I thought he easily won and was docked two atrocious points for pushing) and then he fought Garcia which was a road block. Matthysse is right behind with a solid resume at 140lbs and is ready to leap over him once he takes care of Garcia.

I agree with Matthysse being round about the best. However i'm not convinced with Garcia. I think Rios, Alvarado and Maidana would end Garcia in the first 5 rounds. With arguably Peterson also giving him a very hard time. Matthysse decapitates him. I am not surprised to see votes for Khan over Matthysse and Garcia. Khan would get a couple votes if was included in a heavyweight poll too. :lol1:

Matthysse is streaks ahead in my opinion. Maidana is now a Welter so I don't think he should be in the picture! I might cop some flak for this but I think Rios would pose the biggest threat to Lucas at 140. I'm a fan of both and I know that Rios is limited especially against a guy with good movement and boxing ability. But if Brandon held up to Lucas's power, if Rios uses his jab, combined with his weight and inside ability I think he'd give Matthysse problems. Plus it would be the most fan friendly fight at 140!

It's a packed division with some great talent, and although some of the fights wont ever happen as fighters are with different promoters. In your opinion who is, or would be the best at 140. For me it would have to be between Alvarado and Matthysse. I would vote for Alvarado as i think he has the power and smartness as shown vs Rios 2 to be able to beat Matthysse. Garcia is the best until proven otherwise. Mathysse may be the best, but on paper he's already been beaten by two limited guys. The mathysse-garcia fight will be for the undisputed #1 position.

I feel khan needs to look in his cupboard for any left over ariza shakes when he goes to 147 just so he has a nice forcefield on his chin to go with his cyborg upgraded neck. Its funny cause khan was top dog @ 140 at one stafge 

Matt's is unbeatable.

Lucas walks through everyone at 140 and that includes Khabib, Alvarado, Rios & Garcia. The latter 3 are more highly praised but IMO Khabib is better than them. Hes the hidden gem at 140. I still think Joan Guzman could make some noise and he'll get the chance when he fights Mosquera in a fortnight though I feel its a fight he'll receive little credit for. Guzmans best days are behind him seemingly but hes in great shape (actually been making weight) remaining active (albeit an injuryput him out breifly) and he is hungry. I can't see many of the top guys wanting it as its high risk, low reward.

Ringsmarts would probably go to Alvarado. He's shown that he can adapt, change, and box when he needs to. He can also get down and brawl also. I really think he's a solid, who is the most well-rounded of all of them. However, Matthyse is leagues ahead of everyone in terms of raw physical talent. Granite chin, relentless firing, and sledgehammer hands makes me immediately think of an early Pacquiao. Matthyse gets my vote.

i want to see what about billions broner looks like @ 147 against maglinaggi. paulie has zero power, and is really a career 140 lber who is past his best and can't make 147, but he has a chin. we won't know for sure if broner can take a full 147 lber's punch until he takes one. that wont be against maglinaggi so far he's shown a solid chin. if broner can hurt maglinaggi easily enough i think he'll beat matthysse @ 140. broner was huge @ lw. huge. he's been a WW in a LW body for a while now. i have no idea how he made 130 lbs, or even 135. if we only pick guys actively campaigning @ 140, i will take lord lucas, the iguanaman. I pretty much agree with this. It should be very interesting to see how Broner's power translates, and if it does he would be a huge factor at 140 if he fights there. It would be hard for Matthysse to win a decision against him, so it would come down to Broner's chin. Matthysse has the best resume and simply looks like the best fighter currently at 140.
