Angulo: I never quit; the ref stopped it without checking the situation or giving a count

Junior middleweight contender Alfredo Angulo disputes the stoppage by referee Raul Caiz Sr. in his bout against Erislandy Lara on Saturday night. “I never quit,” Angulo told USA Today via text. “I turned to tell Virgil that my eye got thumbed twice. The ref stopped it without checking the situation or giving a count. A regular punch would not do that. It’s dirty fighting by Lara, again. I was following the game plan and was building the pressure.”
According to the article, the Angulo Team also questioned the treatment “El Perro” got at Harbor-UCLA Medical Center, which claimed Angulo didn’t suffer any fractures or breaks, however “nobody really checked him out” before discharging him.
can you numb nuts stop saying thumbless gloves, they are attached thumb gloves. Modern pro fight gloves have attached thumbs! You can still get poked in the eye with attached thumb gloves.
I'm not making excuses for angulo. I'm just tired of the handful of people that keeps referencing thumbless gloves.

Why do you think he quit? Its demoralizing to hit a guy with everything you have, knock him down, and have him get back up and beat the **** out of you twice.
When he was in agonizing pain, I dont think he was thinking this rubbish you are talking LOL. To me he seemed badly injured, and wanted to get help the instance he got thumbed.
I'm pretty sure he didn't agree with you.
Thumbing with a thumbless glove? Okay.
I'd have to see what type of thumbless gloves he has, because all of them arent the same. I saw the thumb go in Perro's eyes, we all saw it. We dont have to pretend it didnt happen bro.
I don't blame the guy for quitting - but at least be straight about it. No excuses.
He had my respect after that fight and is now losing it, as he comes up with more reasons why he quit. "It was a serious injury." Leave it at that.
The only thumbs being used were the thumbs Angulo had up his ass for lying about why he quit lol. Those were cracking straight left hands busting up that eye socket not any ****ing thumbs lol
Yea it was probably accidental, but at least we are both agreeing the obvious did indeed take place. And Im not biased. Im not a boxing fan who picks and chooses fighters to jock, or hate on. I'm just calling what I saw.
Yea Perro turned his back, but I think the pain was so horrible, that he just acted out of instincts. He looked hurt the way he was responding to it.
And I actually think that fight could have gone either way. Lara was doing good, but Perro was making some rounds close, and the knockdowns made them closer. Everytime Lara got dropped, he got up and focused harder. I just wished the fight wouldnt have ended that way.

You thumb someone from up close, moving your hand about an inch. Lara threw a punch, you really think he threw a punch aiming to land with the thumb in angulos eye? Thats absurd, it was clearly accidental.
Had it been an illegal move that is, but these are thumbless gloves. The thumb is attached to the rest of the glove and even if that part of the glove makes contact its a legal shot.
Also lol at you saying you knew before the replay it was an illegal move like that adds credibility to your post. All it does is show you are so biased you already made up your mind what happened based on what you wish happened and stuck with it regardless of the truth.
Even if it wasnt legal angulo still quit, anytime you turn your back and walk away its surrendering. You want a count then take a knee but there is no standing 8 count, all the ref can do is let it continue or stop it. Since angulo turned his back and stopped fighting he had to stop it.
Angulo also say he wanted to talk to hunter but he should know you cant just take a timeout in the middle of the action. Even if you are fouled in case the ref dont call it, but again he wasnt fouled.
Even if it was an illegal move nobody can be dumb enough to say it was on purpose meaning it woul be a TD. Lara was up on points at the time and would still have won.

Thumbless gloves you fcuking idiot. And if a thumb magically thumbed Angulo in the eye, it wouldnt cause swelling like that on the outside of the eye. But you cant get thumbed by thumbless gloves. This whole argument is stupid.
All thumbless gloves arent the same. I dont care what you say, I saw it for myself. I saw the way he reacted, and it was obvious. I also so the replay showing the jab that did the job.
As a couple of guys already pointed out, we all know that when a fighter turns his back, the referee will stop the fight. Angulo can't pretend not to know this. He didn't even attempt to convey his protest to the ref. Another thing: when the doctor was examining Alfredo in the corner, he (very gingerly) touched the swelling over "Perro's" left eye a couple of times. On one of those occasions, Angulo winced and immediately recoiled from the doctor's touch. Does that sound like a thumbed eye?
Watch the fight bro. Even before the replay showed the thumb, I automatically knew he was thumbed. See Lara doesnt really have any power, and he landed cleanly the whole fight. One Perro was in agony, I knew it was another dirty tactic. Then the replay showed that the right jab, lunged a thumb in Perro's eye.
