JAMES DEGALE has Carl Froch firmly in his sights after taking a major step towards a world title tilt on Saturday.
The Londoner retained his WBC silver super-middleweight belt by defeating Croatian Stjepan Bozic at Bluewater, Kent.
DeGale, the 2008 Olympic middleweight gold medallist, dominated the contest, with Bozic’s corner throwing in the towel before the start of the fifth round.
DeGale, 27, is hungry for a domestic showdown with WBA and IBF champion Froch.
He said: “I’m in boxing for the big fight, I love the big shows. And Carl Froch is a fantastic fighter.
“But everyone is making him out to be like ‘The Terminator’, who can’t be beaten. But he has lost before and I think I’m all wrong for him.” Click Here To Read More]
yknow, ive actually changed my stance about this....this..complete pr1ck.
i think my boy carl should take the challenge and batter this cunt the fack out.
That's cool if you can't respond, I understand. I remember yesterday I asked you to explain why Groves would stop DeGale in a rematch and your response was laughable so I don't blame you for trying to avoid actually debates from now on.
Well, i've given you the facts.
You keep shouting for a Groves re-match. It'll happen one day, i'm sure.
Hilarious. You'd think Groves knocked him out brutally or something. When he actually stole a 1 point gift decision. DeGale's competition on the whole has been better.
Groves has ducked a rematch with both him and Kenny Anderson and pulled out of a world title fight with Steiglitz with a Hayemaker injury.
Neither have actually surpassed each other since the first fight so they should just fight again to prove who is really ready for the big time.
In gift decisions, yes it is.
Change the record, will you.
Obviously because Groves knows he got away with a huge gift that night. He'll probably never risk getting into the ring with DeGale again.
It's 2-0 Groves, btw. ;)
Steps up his opposition? What, to fight Groves? :lol1:
As it stands, yes, he would be stepping up to face Groves. A man who inflicted a defeat on him and who is ranked higher by every boxing council. But again, there's no money/interest in that fight until one, or both, have a strap.
Why doesn't DeGale ask Hennessy to match him with Edwin Rodriguez? That'd be one HUGE step in up in competition.
IMO, until he dumps that trainer of his and works on his defense and shot selection, he'll reside at European level.
DeGale is the only one of the two that wants the fight and wants tough fights. Groves is trying to David Haye his way to a shot at Froch whilst ducking fighters around him.
If DeGale steps up his opposition, great; but, until that happens, it's just tripe (a la Cleverly).
And FYI, WBC rankings:
Champion Vacant.
1 Saiko Bika
2 Edwin Rodriguez
3 George Groves
4 Marco Antonio Periban
5 James De Gale
6 Tommy Oosthuizen
7 Maxim Vlasov
8 Mohammed Ali Ndiaye
9 Nikola Sjekloca
10 Alexander Brand
Well, he's ranked higher by pretty much every boxing council, so he must be doing something right. The standard of both fighters' opposition hasn't been great, i'll grant you that.
Oh, and no, it's not a natural eliminator; it's a pointless right with almost no public interest (at present).
It would be a natural eliminator in the sense the first fight was close and quite a few felt Degale won.
That said, this rematch shouldn't happen just yet IMO.
The logical reason is the one I just stated. It's a natural eliminator for the world title.
I guess Groves has more to gain by fighting bums like Noe Gonzalez, yeah?

Yes Froch can be beaten but it was against the likes of Kessler and Ward, who are a little bit better fighters than Groves of this world.
Keep improving your CV a little bit and then im sure the Gent froch will accommodate you. He knows how you feel as he was desperate for JC and was let down by JC. He might not want to let you down.
They'll have to crown the new champ before making a mandatory I guess. DeGale and Groves are the next in line after Bika and Periban I believe.
The best thing to do would be to have an eliminator between DeGale and Groves but Groves has never wanted the rematch.
Why would Groves rematch DeGale? He has nothing to gain. He's ranked #6 by the IBO (higher than DeGale), #2 by the WBA (higher than DeGale) #3 by the WBC (higher than DeGale)... shall I continue?
I understand you're still upset about the 'razor' thin (IMO, clear) victory Groves scored over DeGale, but there's no logic behind a rematch. It'll only be meaningful when theres a strap on the line.
Agree with this.
Although, IMO, Bika and Periban are too much for DeGale.
I don't highly rate Degale but I think he's definitely good enough to atleast have a chance at beating Bika.
That said, he will definitely struggle IMO.
It's a fight I want to see, Bika vs eihter Degale or Groves but I think Degale is the mandatory now.
DeGale sits on the ropes to much..Froch would have a field day with him.
The winner of Bika Vs Periban would be a good test for DeGale.
Agree with this.

Degale would have the better chance between himself and groves at beating froch. But only if he stays off the ropes and keeps the fight in the centre of the ring. He's capable of outboxing carl but for someone with a gold medal he gets hit alot. I see froch koing both degale and groves
Degale cant handel speed, and he himself is incapeble of exploding.
He would get Koéd inside 2 against somone like pascal.
Froch would just waith and, then explode like a cobra and batter degale to a nice tko
if Degale thinks he can lie on the ropes and get hit like that against Froch he'd get KO'd in DosRounds! He's not on his level yet. He needs to work on his defense and movement a lot to be competitive with Froch.
