So it seems like a lot of you go back and forth on catch weights seemingly always in favor of the fighter you are a fan of. So can we come to a consensus on this? Catch weights are either legit or they are not. There should not be people trying to justify certain ones and discount others. What say you?

if a fight is to be made on demand or for any other reasons...so be it....
this is nothing really new.......
david fought goliath...didn't he?
nobody compalined........
I dont like them, the fighter in the lower division should move up to the higher division. I want to see 2 fighters at their best, and CWs are usually put in place to try and weaken the fighter in the higher division. But if 2 fighters agree to it, its whatever, i just feel it takes away from the fight
I don't like it personally, but I don't like it anymore than Canelo rehydrating to 172 pounds, that's a 22 pound weight advantage. Which is why I think we should really start pushing for same day weigh ins. It's a damn good fight though, Canelo is still the biggest opponent Floyd would have ever faced, with or without having to shed the 2 extra pounds.
You are right. Is there a way to go back and change a poll? But yeah it does seem odd to be able to claim a title for a specific weight class when you changed the weight limit where the fight can take place.
LOL, RIGHT?! Catchweight title fights don't sit well with me at all. The only thing keeping my interest here is that Canelo is a legitimate opponent despite his fans extremely overrating his skillset...
I'm fine with catch weights, what's fu.cked up is how flo.mos were mad at Pac for catch weights, but are now ok with catch weights as long as their god does it
The most sensible quote I've read since I've been logged on tonight.
You should have added the choice of catchweights being unfair or fair in the context of a title fight. My primary issue with catchweights is that they're often used for big title fights, which makes little to no sense because every belt is designated for a specific weightclass...
If it's a catchweight for a non-title fight, I'm a LITTLE bit more lenient...

This thread is about opinions on catchweights not the musings of Floyd Mayweather
My opinion on catchweights is they are fine in a 1 off fight. But if you fought twice already at the weight than you have NO BUSINESS asking for a catchweight just because the third guy is young and can actually punch

Floyd thought 154 was fair against Oscar and Cotto. Now all of a sudden its not fair when he's fighting a guy that is young and can punch? That is bullcrap and everyone knows it.

If we had same day weigh ins we wouldn't have to worry about catch weights.
I agree I would much rather see same day weigh ins than all the catch weight stuff. How difficult would it be to weigh the fighters 4-6 hours before the fight? At least that way you would be forcing fighters to fight in their actual weight class.
I'm a fan of catchweights.
If you have fighters from two different weight classes often the fairest solution is to meet somewhere in the middle.
People need to remember that boxing's weight classes are as arbitrary as catchweights themselves.
It's all about a fair contest.

rehydration clauses bother me more than catch weights, but I'm not a fan of either stipulation, and I would prefer not to see them implemented in world title fights.

I don't really like them as I feel that weight classes are already too close to each other compared to the original old school weight classes.
With that said, I couldn't care less as long as it's a good match up.
I don't mind catchweights if they aren't for a title. But if you want to fight a guy for his title then be a man and fight him at the division limit, dont try to handicap him.
My exact thoughts. Don't mind catch weight fights unless they're for a world title.

I agree It would seem like the sanctioning bodies would step in and say something. Why would they allow their title to exchange hands on a fight that did not allow the full weight limit?
