It was shocking to a lot of people who saw Serg Martinez ko P Williams. I was not shocked. In fact what is so funny about that fight is that I picked P Willy to beat Martinez the first time out, and I picked Serg to ko Williams in the rematch. I just had a feeling.
Same with Jones-Tarver II. I had a feeling Jones would be ko'd and BOOM...the ko happened.
What I want to know from you guys is which fight outcomes literally shocked the hell out of you. Doesn't have to be your favorite fighter either.
Here are a few of my shockers to begin with:
Molinares- Starling.
Curry-McCallum
Corrales-Castillo I
Harris-Jefferson
Chavez-Taylor(Steele)
Judah-Tszyu(Nady)
Brown-Pettway
Toney-Nunn
Nunn-Kalambay
Tate-Weaver
Foreman-Moorer
I can name a lot more, but you get the gist of things.
The biggest shock to me in my lifetime was Ali-Foreman that 8th round. I was the biggest Dr J/Ali fan in the world at age 4 lol. Seeing that first round was shocking because Ali took it to Foreman, and that let me know early in life that you should never fear anything because at that time, everyone picked Big George to ko Ali.
Big George was that brutal at that time and scary.
The second was Buster beating Tyson. The beating Tyson took, and the heart he showed impressed me. But, Buster was on a mission, and round after round I was in utter disbelief that Buster was taking it to Tyson, hitting on clinches, and trying to kill Tyson. He didi what everyone wanted to see done to Tyson, and he won.
Lastly was Duran beating Leonard the way that he did. He mauled Sugar. Sugar loved a good scrap, and Duran obliged. I was shocked, and pissed that Duran won, and how he won. It made me respect Duran and love him all at the same time.
Molinares vs Starling was a punch clearly after the bell! You were shocked with a punch asfter the bell?
The shocker was Spinks vs Ali 1 even an Ali out of shape got the shock of his life! The continuation was shocking too because Leon had him ready to be stopped in the rematch! It should have been the end for Ali. Ray.Both threw a punch a half a split second after the bell, and only one connected. Starling was out cold with his eyes open. Nothing was done on purpose. I was shocked that Starling was ko'd like that considering that his defense was one of the best in the game at that time.

Why does it matter if the punch was after the bell?
It was still shocking that Starling was knocked out in such a way.

Hold on let me get a list of 50s fights that I never saw and find out if it was an upset or not. That way I can look like a real boxing historian.
On a real note, Pacquiao vs Marquez 4 wasn't shocking. Anyone who believed Marquez when he said he was going for the knockout saw that one coming.
Marquez said he same thing in the build up o the third fight. You might say you weren't shocked but every sensible person was. Marquez had shown he could outbox Pacquiao in he first three fights but in 36 previous rounds JMM never came close to stopping Manny or showing us that he was capable of doing so.
Of recent years it has to be Mosley v Margarito.
Hatton v Pacquaio too, just for the sheer brutality and ease that Pacquaio beat him with.
Funny, neither of those were shocks to me.
That's the great thing about boxing, for every major shock, there's someone out there who saw it coming despite no one else seeing it.
I remember that the vast majority thought Margarito would stop Mosley. Only thing that shocked me about that fight was the stoppage. I expected Mosley to win a one sided decision.
Hatton-Pacquaio I thought was a dead cert to be over in 6 rounds or less and not in a nice way for Hatton. One punch KO maybe not, but a painful stoppage none the less.
Hopkins-Trinidad, I expected a painful night for Hopkins and so did most. Instead, we know what happened. And I remeber a small handful seeing it coming despite how foolish I thought they were.
I predicted he'd be on his back barely trying to get up, I admit the way Marquez knocked him out was surprising because Manny looked like he was dead. The knockout outcome itself just wasn't surprising, for me atleast.
I can vouch for WARQUEZ on this one.
He was the only person I recall predicting a KO for Marquez.
