i dont understand froch and his fans. he clearly loses to ward in semi neutral territory by a landslide (atlantic city isnt oakland), i only gave him 2 rounds, and by the end of the fight he looks completely demoralised to the point where he does not even want to think about a rematch. he beats a few tomato cans and an old kessler and suddenly he can now ko ward haha
now he only wants to fight in ward in uk, wouldnt a warrior want to avenge their defeat? does froch really think he won the first fight and the judges screwed him out of a win? does a true warrior really need his fans to cheer every punch for him to have a chance to win?
ward is the no. 1 guy, if you want to fight him you dont get to make the rules especially if he kicked your ass already with a broken hand. if froch was a warrior he would agree to what ever terms and fight ward. i doubt he wants the fight, he is just going to ride the hype train
You make some good points there. I think Froch is indeed a warrior. There is no doubt about that. However he is pretty obvious about wanting the hometown advantage in a rematch with Ward. He thinks because he holds two title belts and is far more popular than Ward he can make Ward fight him in England. He wants the advantage of not traveling. He wants the advantage of having the crowd cheer at every punch he throws. He wants the advantage of an English referee looking out for the English hero. He wants the advantage of judges that will probably give the close rounds to him. Everybody saw the first Ward-Froch fight and they know it was scored fairly and Ward beat him quite easily. Ward may have to take less money fighting someone else instead of Froch but almost everyone considers Ward a better fighter than Froch and that won't change until Froch beats him in a rematch if he can. If Froch wants to get out from under Ward's shadow he has to beat him so I think Froch needs the rematch and Ward does not need the rematch for anything more than a good payday. I don't think Ward will go to England to fight Froch so maybe the two of them should fight in a neutral country like Canada, Germany or Mexico.
thread is started by the same sort of guy who tweeted abuse at Froch and then ran off scared ****less when Froch replied saying he was coming down to visit the guys gym next week so they could talk about it face to face then.
There are boundaries in the U.S., state boundaries.
Even then, most people find it hard to give a crap for boxers in their own state. Support is mostly local, unless you're a huge star. And Ward is not a huge star in any sense. The US is way too damn diverse to feel kinship with another place in the US that's 3000 miles away. The comparison with the UK is not valid at all.
There's a reason why Hopkins can draw 10k paying customers in the eastcoast, but could barely get 1k in Los Angeles.
Exactly. When people claim it's not a hometown advantage when an american fights in the US just not in his hometown I just laugh, that's just what it is, laughable.
Do you know what "town" means?
"A town is a human settlement larger than a village but smaller than a city"

it is not always an advantage in the US not every fighter over here has a large fan base or are well known.
i didn't even know the froch-ward fight was in atlantic city i thought it was in oakland like all of wards fights
Fight him in the uk and get over it. Simple! All this crap about you ain't #1 so u can't make the rules stuff is lame. Ward just needs to go to England, whip his ass again and that's it. I agree Froch fans are a bit loose right now but who cares???? Let them think Froch can win a rematch. Just get the fight done and let it be.

I'm a Ward fan and you're full of shit. Froch did look demoralized at certain points in the fight but not at the end, he actually finished strong and did well in the last 2 rounds. Bute is not a tomato can. He wants to fight Ward in the UK because the first fight was in the US, it's only fair. It's not just about having the crowd on your side it's also about not having to travel and not having to get used to the different climate and timezone. And it goes both ways, if Froch is a joke for wanting to fight at home then so is Ward. You gotta be consistent.
Nationalistic support isn't a matter of distance. It's a matter of boundaries.

Atlantic City is in the USA, Ward's home country.
It's very stupid to claim it's "neutral territory". :frown:
If Froch fights Ward in London, is that "neutral territory" because it's not Froch's hometown?
Exactly. When people claim it's not a hometown advantage when an american fights in the US just not in his hometown I just laugh, that's just what it is, laughable.
Is it 5 hours by plane from Nottingham to London?
2nd question:
How many European countries would you cross driving the same distance east to west as from Oakland to New Jersey?
To the TS - Froch is a warrior whether he fights Ward again or not. The quality of opponent fought over the past 3 years is head and shoulders better than anyone in boxing.
Distance like that serves no purpose other than time taken to travel there lol. Nottingham and London are just as politically, culturally and economically different than Oakland and Atlantic City are. That is American thinking, but I can see why you'd take that view because of the size of your country. It is just the same, but on a much shorter scale given the size of the UK.
I like the European thing. Fighters could fight in Germany, but could and probably would be robbed in neighbouring Russia which isn't so far away. It isn't distance that is important, it is how culturally/politically relatable they are, and the relation with the fighter. Even besides this, if any place was going to be scrutinised to all hell, it would be Wembley Stadium - it's a symbolic place of the nations capital.
You can argue its easier for Froch fans to get there, but if Ward fans travelled so far to get to Atlantic City, which you claim to be so far away and so different from Oakland, surely getting to London isn't that much more of a stretch? It is an international city after all. But noone expects Ward fans to be a majority anywhere other than Oakland
If Atlantic City was neutral/semi-neutral for Ward, then London is for Froch. I don't think Froch has had any major fights in London other than Kessler, and the scoring seemed a fair bit better than Froch/Ward in the US.

Watch who he fought and how he fought them. He took some heavy ass bombs from Kessler in both fights. Pretty sure that nose broke from Kesslers right in the first, and he fought on like nothing happened.
