There are a lot of great Boxing countries all over the world but excitement wise I think the UK is in a league of its own in terms of the fanfare and atmosphere they create. Just my opinion but fights like Ricky Hatton-Kostya Tszyu or Mayweather-Hatton, Calzaghe-Lacy, Calzaghe-Kessler, and obviously last night with Froch-Kessler that place was rocking man. Anyone else notice Wayne Rooney going nuts in the front row lol
I was underneath the HBO and Sky broadcast teams on Saturday and some guy was like;
"Look there's Andre Ward!"
And someone else went;
"Andre Ward? Never heard of him. Who the f*ck is Andre Ward......?
WHOOOOO THE F*CKING HELL ARE YOU......."
You can guess what comes next :lol1: The whole side of the 02 screaming that at Ward.
He was laughing though, he was laughing it up.
Another guy tried to get "ARE YOU HOPKINS IN DISGUISE" going but it didn't quite take off :lol1:
Was great, the atmosphere last night was incredible. I was at Eubank-Benn in 1990 and it was absolutely comparable to that.
Was my first UK fight for quite a while. I missed it, to be honest.
Everyone around me was blind drunk by fight time haha.
Haha I was there too mate. Section 114 right? Was funny that.
Also saw Ward afterwards when he came out of TV bit for a few pictures. All good banter.

Shy blocks a lot of the crowd chants out, at the Haye-Chisora fight thousands were chanting "You fat bastard" but could barely be heard on the TV Broadcast.
I went to the fight, and the crowd were deafening. Great atmosphere. Eventhough i dont like the football crowd, they were great. Much bigger noise than at the recent Amir Khan fight and even Hatton - Pac in Vegas (if that was in England it would have been mental
).
Americans are weird though, Holyfield v Tyson was one of those rare fights fight with great atmosphere, it's inconsistent in the US. But the UK/Mexico regardless of crowd size you can still expect it to be a great event.
I agree, I was there the atmosphere was amazing !! Kessler got booed during the fight but at the end he got a massive round of applause. It was a great night !!
The atmosphere was amazing, everyone was just completely trashed. There's always a sense of occasion at a big British fight. I actually think if American fans were more like British fans in the way they create an atmosphere we'd probably see more good fights in America. Sometimes the atmosphere at an American boxing event just lacks the energy of Latin America and the UK.
Ocourse the easiest way to accept ignorance..............if I've never read it ..it doesn't exsist?
The fact is I can name off a number of terrific trainers you never heard of the reason being your NOT in the boxing business! You don't have accredidations on "google" and you don't get experienced in the sport playing on forums! If you can't recongnize that I know what I'm talking about it just furthers the fact you know little!! And if I were 6 months dead you couldn't whip my azzz!
There is NO shame in being a B-class fighter there IS shame when people can't tell the difference between top tier and B-class and consider B to be GREAT! If England had more boxing gyms and less "clubs" and way more "trainers and far less "coaches" you could develop more fighters!! Plus after their 18-0 take them to Italy or Germany to prepare them to come to the USA so when they get their shot their not "overwhelmed"! Ray
This isn't even about fighters or levels. It's about British fans and whether they create the best atmosphere. Stay on topic my man.
I love the atmosphere of a big fight, its like the football over here..always electric. The atmopshere is a huge part of the event.
IMO a big sporting event that lacks in atmosphere is a huge let down.
When it comes to boxing the UK has us beat in terms of noise by a wide margin.
Our loudest venues are by far College football:

Folks in the UK tend to watch our (mostly) quiet NFL crowds and think we don't get loud I think.
It's the culture over here.
Get behind your man, win, lose or draw keep chanting their name, create a great atmosphere and just have a good time. It's not like a soccer game, it's like any sporting event over here apart from snooker or some boring ****, even 1000 darts fan make a better atmosphere than 20000 Americans :lol1:
We like to have a good time and show our support for our fighter, it's spirit, it's passion - how can you not like it? To truly understand what it's like, you have to be there. Watching/listening to it on TV just does not do it justice.
This. ^
I remember watching the weigh in for Hatton - Mayweather, no other fans in the world come close to making an atmosphere like that in my opinion.

The Argies take it a step too far.
Tom Stalker (GB Olympic captain) account of Martinez v Murray:

interesting read, but yes Argentines are the craziest diehard fans
Don't get too smug Ray lest we remind you of PFP king Curry coming a cropper against the Honeymonster, or Lewis, or Benn or the last Olympics... - our little island (the US is 38 times bigger) definitely punches above its weight!
nah Argentines do. Did you not see Martinez last fight, even he was overwhelmed
The Argies take it a step too far.
Tom Stalker (GB Olympic captain) account of Martinez v Murray:
Never in my whole life have I felt so much excitement and fear at the same time. The crowd were fighting to get towards us, making death signs to us, spitting, throwing drinks. We were lucky that Neil Marsh had asked the security staff from the hotel who had been deputised to follow us to walk us to the ring. If they hadn't been around us, Martin might not have made it to the ring.
To be honest, if he'd won I don't think we'd have made it out of there alive. It was already like being thrown to the lions. When the fight finished, the crowd went crazy and hundreds were diving into the ring wrecking it so we did well to get out.
We all had to feel for Gary Buckland.
The super-featherweight had done ten weeks training, flown 7,000 miles to fight Fernando Saucedo in a world title qualifier and got there to fight at 7.30pm only to be told he was going on later. He was waiting in the dressing room watching it on TV. But by the time the fans had finished with the ring, after Martin's fight, there was nothing left of it.
They'd smashed all the wooden supports underneath and they had to cancel the fight because the ring wasn't fit to be used. It was massively frustrating for him. It was such a shame because the WBC silver was at stake and a chance to be ranked in the world's top 10.

Thanks for sharing, good to see the British fans made Ward feel at home! :lol1:
How come you don't attend many British fights? I know our quality of cards is lacking compared to the Americans but there are some great small hall shows at times and I could imagine the ticket prices being good too.
No other reason than I don't really have time.
If I want to go to a fight it's really hard to me to make time for it. A lot of hassel moving things around.
A fight as big as Froch-Kessler 2 was something I couldn't miss.
I'm going to try to go to more.
If Brook-Khan get's made in the UK I will likely go to that.
Ofcourse the name calling starts when the truth hurts! You know I get tired of hearing about B-class and second tier fighters from England and Europe being GREAT!!! We went through this years ago and it jumps up everytime some British promoters angles some "home fed" "ordinary talent" kid a shot at a title! We heard Hatton was an ATG, really! Now the Froch vs Kessler is an ATG match between two of the best "super" (ordinary) middleweights?
If you learn to evaluate the skills used in boxing and if their prformed with a high degree of technical skills you'll foind that most of the young men are ordinary talents! I'm NOT attacking them personally everyone has a talent level that can be reached and we can't exceed our abilities but these young men are NOT highly talented thats all I'm saying and in regards to the way one of the best ATG Middleweight Champs was treated that counrty will be remembered for their actions!!!
heres your responce dmize, imagine getting your azz kicked by a cunt? haha
your name calling just enhances why I think the Brit fans (ofcourse not all) are chanting, drunken wannabees! Ballz in numbers and safe ast home but when ventured in front of talent get the **** kicked out of them. Home cooking tasts great but stay their when your talent level isn't very high. Then maybe your fan bases will know who is a really high skilled talent from a club fighter to B-level competitor! Ordinary is ordinary and the ordinary can't see beyond themselves! Ray
