Fighting Canelo later can be a double edge sword for Mayweather.
Why? Think about this:
The more Canelo fights he gets more seasoned and we have seen it.
When Canelo fought Trout he learned alot and gained confidence.
Lets say Floyd Waits, and Canelo fights Cotto.
Im pretty sure Canelo beats Cotto based on his power but I am also sure he will learn alot and gain more confidence.
So is it better to fight Canelo now when he is limited or wait (but he can become a better fighter).
Or not fight him and continue with the tag that he never fights the better opposition.
yep... the prime versions of mosley and cotto... cherrypicker retired rather than fight the prime versions
Arum protected Cotto and Shane ducked Floyd back in the day then Floyd handpicked Mosley after the Pac fight fell apart. Yeah, Mosley, the guy Pac and Roach ducked and the same guy that busted up Margarito which was one of Mosley's greatest fights when Floyd picked him.
Save it. I'm not one of these idiots you can spin your BS on. Floyd would have beat Shane, Cotto, and Margarito in their primes also. Floyd haters have to use mythical and hypothetical fights or scenarios to make their points because all of the real fights end in lopsided victories, time after time after time after time...
But it was ok for Manny to fight a (36) year old De La Hoya at 147 but a (22) year old Canola can't come down to 147...Why is that???
Irrelevant comparison. Stick to only the current situation for Alvarez and Mayweather. Alvarez has not fought at 147 for a couple of years now. He fights in the 154 class. Due to the way the weigh-ins work he has time to put on weight and come in quite heavier come fight night. That's on him. It could be a positive (supposed increase in power with an increase in weight) or it could be detrimental (slowing down and stamina issues due to the shock weight increase at fight night).
Either way, Alvarez is not a current fighter at 147 nor does he hold a title in that weight class.
As for Mayweather, he still holds a title at 154 and is a recognized champion in that weight class. He should fight in that weight class as well or relinquish the belt and leave it at that. No one would blame him. However, it appears that team wants their cake and want to eat it too. If you are a champ in 154, you fight in 154 or give up the title. It's not rocket science.
Hate to draw comparisons, but even Pacquiao realized he was too small for that weight class and stayed away from it after Margarito. Nobody blinked at him doing that either.
To quote a well known Mayweather phrase, and one that is typically used for overmatched opponents...'Skills pay the bills.' In this matchup I truly believe that. I think the greater weight will slow down Alvarez and leave him open for a boxing clinic. It won't be easy, and yes, Floyd will be punished, whether he shows it or not. Alvarez will be heavier and hit harder, but his stamina and slightly slower speed will be his detriment.
Because of this I think they're somewhat evenly matched at 154. All advantages are Floyd's at 147. This is why, I believe, the money team don't want anything to do with Canelo at 154.
Hopefully the fight happens, but I wouldn't be too surprised if it didn't. I just don't see a reason for Floyd to have the 154 Champ accolades sans the challenge of another 154 champ.
Whenever on the subject of Floyd, people are always worried Floyd will be too scared to fight challenges boxing fans deem worthy. That does Floyds legacy no favours whatsoever.
People thought Floyd would be too scared of hatton, even though he nearly lost to Collazo. THought he would be too scared of even old man 5 loss SSM. These opponents arent really great, but people still worry Floyd will be too scared. Peoplethought he was scared of Pac and Foiyd gave ammunitio to the strongly held belief he was terrified of Pac and now canelo.
Floyd musst be one of the least brave champs in history according to the average boxing fan.
Showtime made it clear that they want Canelo for Floyd's next fight. I believe Haymon and Schaefer are working feverishly to make this fight happen. September is just a few months away. Guess who's making things difficult? Floyd. Canelo camp is not backing down with their terms. I don't think it's about the weight. It's about the money.
:unitedsta
If Floyd doesn't fight Canelo then his legacy will definitely be tarnished. That means he avoided Pac and Canelo. Both are the 2 biggest fights in boxing and the best two available opponents.

GTFO. The Pacquiao fight is/was the only fight that will tarnish Floyd's legacy. Who the **** is Canelo and what has he done in the sport?

Your post is spot on. He should fight Canelo now. The longer he waits, the more it will benefit Canelo.
Floyd wont ever fight canelo mark my words. Especially after canelo obliterates cotto later this year. They have thrown their 1st road block by asking canelo to drop to 147 which we know is not possible. Let's be real do you really think mayweather is going to concede on his demands? He didn't with pac which is/was a much bigger star than canelo. So unless canelo cuts one of his arms to make 147 the fight aint happening.

Floyd has maintained that he is fighting in September. If he is true to his word, the only logical opponent would be Canelo. Alexander has a broken hand and I don't think you risk a major promotion on the possibility that Devon can fight in September. From what I read, Khan is out as well because of Ramadan. That leaves Matthyse and Garcia who should be fighting each other.
Floyd vs. Canelo @ 154lbs on Sept. 14th. :boxing:
If this fight is really happening, it needs to happen now...
Canelo is only getting older and will soon outgrow 154, which will be the nail in the coffin for this match up.
If floyd doesn't fight canelo sept 14 i don't think the fight will ever happen. Canelo may move up to middle weight in the next year and floyd is naturally a welter weight. Only way they fight is if they agree on a catch weight at 151 or at jr middleweight.

Dumbazz he is fighting Canelo In September in his next fight retard. No catchweight, no rehydration clause. 54' title. I already found out, and all thats left now is for me to tell you YOU DONT KNO SHIET ABOUT BOXING IDIOT!!!!!
Anybody that thinks Floyd will fight Canelo next can bet me up to 10 billion points even money. The bet will be payable when he announces his next fight. PM me if you want to bet on it.I bet he will not be fighting Canelo now or ever.
You guys are freakin retarded. The fights going to happen next for one reason and one reason only. Its cheaper to have the fight now. If Floyd waits hes going to have to pay Canelo more money. Why dont you guys believe Scheafer when he says hes working on a deal? I know hes partners with Floyd in this Showtime deal but hes also Canelos promoter. So why lie about it? So do what you always do and flip flop because the fights happening. So start looking for ways to discredit Floyd after he beats Canelos ass.
I don't think Floyd cares what some fans say about him not fighting the best. If I understand his deal with showtime he gets at least 32 million a fight regardless of who he fights. I think he will have all his last five fights at a top weight of 147. That's ok with me if he gives up the 154 pound WBA superchampion title he got when he beat Cotto or the WBA takes that title away.

It all depends on how "risky" of a fight they believe Canelo is at any given time.
Canelo stated himself, when he was relatively greener, "Floyd wanted to fight me 1-2 years ago"
Looking at Canelo's last fight, Canelo has shown he still needs some serious improvements in certain areas. So if we see that, I'm sure that Floyd and his team sees the same. Therefore the fight can still be made.
If Canelo doesn't fight Floyd next and turns in a few very impressive performances against high quality opponents then the likelihood of the fight happening will be a lot less. If it also shows that Canelo's present flaws are no longer apparent then, going by Floyd's record in respect to fight selection, there would be "NO CHANCE" in this fight ever happening.
All you need to do is look at Floyds fight history and you will get your answer.
He is adverse to taking risks, he doesnt take any risks at all. He fought Hatton when he coiuld see Hatton didnt perform well at 147, nearly losing to Collazo. He bloats JMM, fights old man 5 loss SSM.
So hes hardly going to wait for Canelo to get better before fighting him. If he dont fight him next, he will make excuses and the fight will never happen. He'll fight khan and then dissapear in the moonlight or sunset.
