People on this board keep comparing Matthysse to Marcos Maidana with the attempt to discredit the mans boxing skills, all you need to do is look at their one common oponent which is DeMarcus Corley, the fight between Corley and Maidana could've went either way since it was very competitive. Within six months Corley fought Matthysse and was knocked down more than 6 times and stopped by the 8th round.
Honestly the only similarity between both fighters is that they are both Argentinian and tatted up. Lucas has the ceiling to be an elite player in the boxing game while Maidana is at is best a stepping stone.
Diego actually fights a lot like Canelo lol.
I predict him to upset THurman though, that's a Diamond in the rough IMO and they are digging it up.
Upset is very possible or at least a strong showing in a losing effort from Chaves via controversial decision but Thurman is no fukin joke, his Power is no joke either plus he does have good boxing skills to go with his Power, very excited about that match up though I really like both fighters potential

In what is Chaves better than Thurman? I've only seen Thurman fight and he did not impress me. He's open to get picked apart.
It is a LAZY comparison because both are Argentinian Boxers and that comparison usually coming from people who don't know Sh1t about boxing
Matthysse is a much more well rounded fighter and more skilled and more ATHLETIC then Maidana who has absolutely no footwork, Matthysse on the other hand can move his feet, at least much better then Maidana can
Wait until people see Diego Chaves against Keith Thurman, I am sure they will say "HE FIGHTS LIKE MATTHYSSE!" because he is a also a Argentinian Boxer with a lot of power:no:

They also tend to age like fine wines, so maybe something is in the water.
Maybe it's that Argentinian steak. If I could eat that every day I'd want to live longer as well.
How are the Gyms in Buenos Aires? honestly in terms of quality relative to quantity Argentina has Mexico beat in terms of the talent they put out. They must be doing something right down there.

To be fair, I don't think too many people on this site were saying that. I'd seen it elsewhere alright. The fact that they were both from Argentina seemed to be enough for some people to make the comparison.
Both can punch, but Matthysse puts a lot of emphasis on his single shots, a lot more meaning behind them, and as pointed out he variates his attack. Maidana is more swinging for the fences, Matthysse is more about trying to get down your rhythm, reading your every moves.
spot on analysis man
Matthysse is clearly a much better fighter, we already saw how a slow starting Matthysse dismantled Alexander, where as Alexander completely dominated Maidana. Another thing, Peterson destroys Maidana in my opinion, Maidana has improved but that's what would likely happen if those two ever fought.
Yes I agree Peterson would beat Maidana, honestly I sensed that Peterson was psychologically beat before the fight even started. It's going to be hard to beat Matthysse from now on since a big part of the fight game is all mental. All his opponents from now on know that (A) his punches will hurt you (B) he can box and counter you (C) He's aggressive and won't stop coming for you (D) he's got a granite chin.
Best of all he's got a rep of a mean dude who's coming to beat you down within the pro boxing community.
With Maidana only (A) is checked and possibly (D) *this fighters are a dime a dozen.
Maidana could KO Pederson, he gets dropped a lot and Maidana hits hard enough.
Maidana doesn't throw short effective punches the way Matthysse does. If he did he would have gotten Amir Khan out of there in the 10th round, when he had Khan planted on the ropes, or he would have been able to get off punches in the clinches against Alexander. Maidana isn't that kind of puncher either, and I do acknowledge that he can punch. Peterson would smother him up close, and I wouldn't be shocked at all if Peterson got him out of there.
I've been saying this for a couple years but Argentina makes the most exciting fighters pound for pound. Their fighters come to kill you.
As of recently, you are completely right.
