Lets get the fight made, please don't duck another fight Fans are asking for. Prove to the boxing fans that you actually do take "risks" and take the Canelo fight.
Absolutely no reason why Floyd shouldn't fight Canelo. If the fight doesn't happen, it will just reconfirm what we've all known Mayweather to be.
Canelo fans telling Floyd to fight someone legit, oh boy......
Anyways, I'm sure the fight will happen. Whether it's 2013 or 2014, I could careless. I would prefer May 2014 or September 2014 so Canelo can get a couple more good wins, because mark my words.....if it happens this September people will say Floyd saw Canelo gas in the Trout fight and pounced.
LOL...I'd prefer Floyd school the kid ASAP so they can get on to hyping up GGG as the next Floyd duck.

I don't remember anyone saying Floyd wasn't going to beat Cotto last year. Should the fight have happened in 2008, hell yeah it should have, but Floyd still got props from guys like me after that one, go back through my post history to find out. Cotto tested him, but Floyd looked great in that fight.
Floyd hurts his own legacy by taking the easier fights. Even he admits it. He feels he proved a lot early in his career and he can now pick and choose as he see's fit.
He retired instead of fight prime Cotto, Pwill, or giving Oscar a rematch in 2008. (I won't even mention Margacheato but at the time that could be seen as a duck.) He comes back against a blown up lightweight that had never fought north of 140 and an old Mosley coming off a fools gold win and a year and a half layoff instead of fighting Pwill, Pacquiao, or other challanges. Then he goes on vacation and comes back and sucker punches a weak minded bum in Ortiz. Demands 100% of the PPV against Pac and then goes on to fight Cotto 4 years too late.
You can blame the haters all you want, but Floyd has to look in the mirror as well.
The point of my post is Floyd has given himself these expectation. He or his fans can't get angry when he is held to them.
I understand your point about expectations. The cotto fight is a perfect example. No matter how many times his manager points out they didn't want to fight at the time-posters like you say he ducked prime cotto when you know it isn't true.
Margarito, we disagree but I again see your point. Prime ODH and Prime Shane were called out by floyd and they refused. Pwill, agree he was tough, but he had no fanbase and then lost to QUintana. Was it the loss that took him out of contention for a more lucrative fight?
Basically you are saying if floyd never said he was the best he'd get a pass for not fighting certain fights. So while floyd had to fight pwill who called him out manny didn't. Is that a logical argument?
the problem with this post is prior to shane, hatton and cotto posters talked about floyd unwillingness to fight these men and how they would beat him. when over the tune changed.
floyd fans don't want to be denied of an event-we are just waiting for posters like you to stop changing your tune everytime floyd beats a guy you said he wouldn't or was afraid of.

Canelo needs one more fight on Showtime to maximize the fight's earning potential. You're telling me a fight with Cotto wouldn't do anything for Canelo in terms of maximizing his exposure to a Floyd fight?
This isn't HBO, Canelo needs to build his Showtime brand. People seem to forget it's not HBO anymore
He ciould have fought Cotto two or three fights ago instead of bullying 140 pounders. He has more than 40 professional fights and has had a championship belt for three years. If he is not ready for the best competition at this point, he is nothing more than an overrated hype job (which is what I've always thought).
To all those making excuses for Floyd, did Floyd not claim to be the greatest fighter ever? Did he not himself say he was better than Ali and Robinson on 24/7? Did he not say he wants to go down as the greatest athlete ever just last month? Did Ellerbe not come out and say they only want the biggest fights that can be made from here on out?
Why do people get so sensitive when fans hold Floyd to his own criteria?
Canelo is the biggest fight to be made. Its the most logical event for Mexican Independence day. How much sense does Floyd vs Alexander or Floyd vs Khan in the UK make for Mexican independance day? If TMT had any notions that these type of fights would be acceptable just because Floyd is a draw hopefully the PPV numbers from Guerrero snaps some sense into them.
If I was a Floyd fan I would be excited to see my guy go up against a hungry young champion and prove the doubters wrong. There are only so many fights left and only Canelo or Martinez does anything for Floyds legacy. Right now Floyd is a talented guy but he does not have one hall of fame moment that will stand the test of time long after he is gone. No one cares about PPV buys and how many cars you had after you retire.
What people remember is who you fought and how you challanged yourself. Its why right now Floyd is not thought of in the same class as other all time greats, hell he is not even as highly regarded as Oscar De la Hoya, a guy he beat.
Why do Floyd's die hard fans want to deny themselves a great event? Were they really that hyped to see him dance around an outmatched guy like Guerrero that posed no physical threat and shouldn't have been in there with Floyd in the first place? Is that really the type of match ups you want to watch, much less pay for?
Just don't get it. I am a Canelo fan but now that he has proven himself if he takes anything less than a top fighter from here on out it will be a dissapointment. I would rather have him fight the best and take a L than watch him against ovverrated guys into his late 20's and 30's even if he is undefeated. Floyd is better than that. Its time to prove it for once....

I still dont understand the need for everyone to always say "now" or "next" about fights. So if Floyd doesnt fight him in Sept but fights him in May, is it really a huge deal? You can say the fight needs to happen but dont tell me it needs to happen in September. It doesnt, weather you want to admit it or not.
Im sure this board would be more than fine with Canelo vs Cotto and Floyd vs Matthysse or something
Floyd has made a career of avoiding guys like Matthysse and Canelo since moving up past lightweight

Here's why: if it turns out they lost 15m on this PPV, that's about half their annual boxing budget. If Floyd fights again this year, and it's not Canelo, it's gonna do even worse with the bad word of mouth from Guerrero. So you can pretty much say bye to Showtime boxing next year, and probably to GBP as we know it, unless they make up with HBO
Your post makes absolutely no sense. How can $15 million be half of their boxing budget when they just signed Floyd to a $200 to $300 million contract over the next 2.5 years? You should stop buying into that bulls..t that respected boxing bloggers like Kevin Iole and Fat Dan Rafael feed gullible people like you.
I seriously doubt that Canelo fights Mayweather next, makes little sense in terms of money to be made.
It still amazes me how most boxing fans just don't understand boxing business. It's about making the most money you can, while you can.
Mayweather vs Canelo is the ultimate goal, we can all agree on that, but why would they pass up a fight with Cotto?
Cotto is a big name, he carries the Mexico vs PR thing and they can make a 24/7 with it and put it on PPV.
Canelo will fight Cotto next, make that money and then maybe we see Mayweather vs Canelo next year some time is my guess.
I would be very surprised if they do Canelo vs Mayweather in Sept.
You are absolutely correct, this may end of like May Vs Pac all over again...
Making the most money as possible before throwing them in together.
Let me list..
-Both want to fight on Sept 14, 2013
-Both promoted by Golden boy
-Mayweather is the 154lb Champ x2

If the fight doesn't happen, it will be because Alvarez let his ego get in the way by demanding 50 percent of the revenue or a $20 million purse or some other ridiculous amount of money when he has never made more than $3 million in a previous fight and has never headlined a PPV fight.

If they want the event to be as big as possible they should have it next May. That way you get Canelos name out a little more and sell him to the general audience as the next superstar and have longer to promote/buildup. If they fight this September, promotions would be rushed and they would have to compete with Texas A&M vs Alabama which would be a bigger event and draw a bigger audience.
floyd fans said the ghost fight was ok, as he would be fighting aganst canelo in sept,
come sept, now it looks like itll be another crap fight, with the promise of the canelo fight in may.
same old floyd, always promising us a better fight down the line.

All these ppl talking about letting the fight simmer (i guess y'all wanna let it marinate now like y'all b-tch at arum for doing all the time) and make it next year in may...
well, that means we gotta sit through floyd-khan/devon and canelo-cotto.
another one of floyds fights down before retirement, basically a holding fight so the canelo fight can be made down the line..
and yoy guys wanna see canelo-cotto too? really
well, ****....i dont.
make the damn fight in sept

The point is that people are acting like he has to fight Canelo or he's a coward, etc...
Thats b.s.
If he fights him then great but he doesnt have to fight him. He doesnt have to fight in his 5th weight class against a guy who is in his 1st and is nearly 25 pounds bigger in the ring and even moreso naturally. If he does it then he should be given extra credit for the win.
Fight fans have become so dim that they dont even realize what they are watching. People actually think this is a natural matchup when its anything but. Floyd is being penalyzed for being too good. He cant fight anyone his size, smaller, or even a lil bigger. Its an unfair matchup because he's that good so he has to fight guys 20 plus pounds bigger for it to be a fair fight that fans are interested in or he's a coward.
Again, most people think his 2 worst fights in the last decade was his only 2 fights at the weight. He doesnt even come in near the 154 pound limit, let alone nearly 20 pounds bigger like Canelo will. The same people who say Floyd is a coward for not fighting in his 5th division against a huge guy even though Floyd is small at WW are the same people who will be quick to tell you that guys like Trout & Canelo shouldnt have to move up even 1 weight class and they will get killed by a ton of guys at MW.
Its a joke. They cant even fight in a 2nd divison when they are huge in there current divisions but Floyd has to fight in his 5th when he is small as hell in his 4th? Explain to me how that makes sense. Explain to me how he's the coward in 5 divisons when he's small but they arent cowards for not moving up just 1 when they are huge? Ill never understand it. I dont even want them to move up but the hypocrisy is crazy
100%... Matter of fact 200%!! I was thinking the same thing!! Nelo comes in 170 freaking pounds, so why can't he fight the 168 pound champ?? Ward?Martinez? Golovkin? He's already too big for 154 but i do understand that Marquez put Manny out of commission so they need someone to say Floyd scared of.:boxing:
September or May whatever, the fight is big now but the fight can be bigger and in business it is not just about making a lot of money it is about maximizing the amount of money to be gained.
The fight has been talked about for a while but only recently became and I use the term loosely but a reasonable match-up, is 4 months enough time from becoming relevant to maxing out?~ I guess it is possible but I think 12 months on the tongue and on peoples mind is much better. SO I don't see how that argument is retarded~
so should this fight be mandatory or extra credit for Floyd because imo people are ranking it like a regular fight when its far from it. He should get special credit for taking that fight if he chooses.
His extra credit is having happy customers. We the ones paying so wtf else he wants???? More money???? He's getting $32M.
