Everyone was saying Floyd doesn't have the legs anymore going into the fight again Robert. Floyd's 36 he's getting old. He was getting hit with big shots against Cotto, etc.........
Mayweather's amazing performance against Robert showed me just how much of a masterful job Cotto did against Mayweather. Yes Mayweather won, but look at all the doubt that was created for this fight all because of Mayweather's performance against Cotto.
He made many think Mayweather was getting old. He did an excellent job cutting down the ring & forcing Floyd to fight against the ropes & in corners. Using angle's beautifully & connecting with shots that no-one else is hitting Floyd with.
It would have been great to see Mayweather vs. Cotto right after the Hatton fight or when he was working with Emanuel Stewart.
Props to you Mr. Cotto for making another legend look mortal. :boxing:
Some of you cats are delusional. I'm no floyd fan but my hat is off to him, he whooped guerrero.
That whole "neglected defense" argument is just more bs. A boxer with floyds skills does his craft in his sleep. So yall need to get out of here with that bs. All the selective posting and fanatism is unreal. How can Floyd be the kind of fighter that adjusts on the fly, but allmof a sudden when he gets b1tchslapped all night with jabs by Cotto, he all of a sudden disregarded his D in camp. Wait, I know, floydie ihas always been an offensive force and isn't naturally a defensive fighter. His shoulder roll is a front for his offendive elbow, I see.
No one can dipute that he beat Cotto, but to undermine that he gave Floyd his hardest fight since the Castillo I scrap, is crazy. That being said,, floyd humbling guerrero the way he did, has just risen Cotto's stock, hence the chatter now.
Now we all wait for more floyd drama to unfold untill his next fight.
Floyd said before this fight that he got hit more than normal in the Cotto fight because they had somewhat neglected defense in training for Cotto, and that leading up to this fight his father put more emphasis on defense. He stuck to the game plan, and besides that, as some others have said, Cotto is future HOF.
Cotto is just better than anyone Floyd has fought in a while. It's always easy to look better against lesser fighters. The size of Cotto makes no difference to me. It's his timing and skill that won him 4 rounds and made Floyd work.
Aside from Marquez who just doesn't have the style to be competitive with Floyd, Cotto and Oscar are far and away the best fighters Floyd has fought since 135. It's no surprise they made him break a sweat.
has nothing to do with my nationality, I can easily point out your avatar and username and say the same thing. Im a fan of plenty of PR fighters
I'm going to put this out for everyone.
I'M NOT RICAN.
That said, I'm a fan of Mexican, Cuban, Argentinian, and American fighters all. Looks like my comments were misplaced, my apologies bro.
Look at the user name, look at the avatar and signature. Take a wild guess why he dislikes Cotto.

Floyd looked just like he did against Oscar.
Both at 154. Go figure.

You're saying the difference is weighing in at 150 as apposed to weighing at 146? Interesting.
Cotto is one of my favs and i was going for him in the floyd fight but even i could see that floyd wanted to fight a more interesting style of fight and took a lot more risks then he would normally!!!
This, I understand people want to believe that Floyd isn't that good anymore, but indeed he does still have his legs so it would seem from Saturday night. Cotto was just much bigger and stronger than what Floyd is used to. Floyd made multiple comments on fighting Cotto more aggressively and wanted the 8oz gloves for the fight as well. People who like manny will say he was shot, but if that's the case then why did manny want to fight him at yet ANOTHER catchweight? I'm glad Cotto didn't budge on that BS. The truth would be that if Cotto was shot with Floyd, he was shot AND weight drained with manny after cheato. The truth is that Cotto is quite comfortable at 154, but just not quite big enough for the weight class. Call me crazy but IMO Cotto would do much better than most think against Canelo... perhaps even better than Trout did. Canelo got hit with some body shots that he didn't like and Cotto won't stand at a distance and box with him... he would be in his chest and hopefully beating that body into submission.
You gotta give it up to Emanuel Augustus.
Going through Cotto's career, why do you feel he isn't a future HOF'er?

LOL @ Cotto being a HOF'er
credit for what? making Mayweathers nose bleed? you guys are idiots. Castillo, Corley and De La Homo gave him fits. Castillo arguably beating him, yet people only seem to bring up Cotto who at the most won 2 rounds.

Mayweather wanting to go toe-to-toe for the fans is the biggest load of **** ever. Floyd don't give a damn about making none of us happy. All he wants is the check. Cotto came to win, pressed the action and MADE Mayweather fight back. At least give him that.

You mad bruh...take a breather. It'll be ok son. It'll be ok, maybe Canelo can swoop in and save the day

When two great fighters go at it, its all about the little things. Angles, ringwork, punch placement
Guerrero is just an average fighter with a lot of heart
Like Poppa Floyd said, how is some dude who went life and death with Katsidis and Casa enter the realm of Money May?
Floyd fought Ortiz in September 2011, a 9 month layoff before Cotto. I don't discredit Guerrero, but he's not better than Cotto. I lol'd when people thought he'd do better. Mayweather put on a masterclass Saturday night regardless however.
Floyd has always taken off a decent amount of time between fights, but he was still always hitting the gym & boxing. With his stint in jail there was none of that for a few months..... so that was what was difference this time around but he looked amazing definitely.
If you watch that fight, Floyd wasn't using his legs that much at all. He invited Cotto to fight him at the ropes at times. Some times he would just sit there and wait for Cotto to throw shots at him while he was on the ropes. Then after the fight Floyd pretty much states that he chose not to use his legs because people would have said it was a boring fight so he wanted to duke it out with Cotto.
Just because he says that doesn't mean it's the case though. It caused people to question his legs regardless of what he said. There were times when he invited it, but there were also times where Cotto kept him there.
Regardless I'm excited to see Mayweather back in the ring. I truly believe that Cotto was a big part of the overall tone leading up to this fight.
