I've seen everyone write Sergio off as an elite fighter, but knee injuries hobble you for months after the surgery. NBA players take a bit to recover and deal with mobility issues for a bit until regainin' their form. Let's hope that's the case with Sergio.
He's alright. He just needs to fight a 1 dimensional come forward fighter so he can look like a million bucks again.
And Murray isn't?!? I like him don't get me wrong, but dude is a solid basic fighter. That says more about Martinez than him.
Murray is a solid, if unspectacular contender at MW
Martinez had a right to struggle with him
maybe his injury had something to do with it, maybe not
Martinez is overrated anyway, and he's getting old
he doesn't have time to sit on the shelf at this point
Overrated? Come on man...take away the ridiculous Cintron Draw (which was a KO for Sergio) and the one fight against Williams which I thought was more of a robbery than people claiming this Murray fight was and he has one loss and one draw out of almost 60 fights with no amateur career.
His opposition has more wins than any active fighter in the world I'd venture to guess. Not to mention he is beating bigger guys than himself on a routine basis. If anything he is underrated to be honest, imo anyways.
Other dudes getting hyped up for beating guys that have already gotten beat down, old timers, no hopers, and strictly name fighters. Take Quillin for example, his best wins are a Winky Wright that hadn't fought in 4 years and N'dam who's best win is Max Bursak. I mean come on, and then there's Golovkin who's best opponent is a guy that Sergio already KO'd.
Overall, dude is 38 years old. He can rest, heal up, but I don't think we're going to see a better Martinez than we saw against Chavez, Williams, Pavlik, etc.
You don't usualy get better after 38 years of age, and it's hardly the best time to be taking long breaks in your career.
His mobility is going and he isn't responding too well to punches either, I seeing him getting KO'd against the newblood. Dude should just retire, enjoy his money and looks.

Guys that fight with their hands low dont usually do well nearing 40. He may have a few more fights but those injuries and his age are putting him near the end of his career.
I'm not that concerned about speed or his footwork becouse he did ok against Murray. He wasn't that effective this time but you know, he is 38! I'm more concerned in his power. After breaking his left hand two times in a row he might never punch as hard again. If he stays as a MW i wouldn't expect more KOs, he might turn in to a boxer who wins rounds from the outside to get UD against bigger guys. At least his last two fights were like that. In case he fights only one time for the next two years i expect big fights. He should move to SW and fight Canelo or Cotto.
