Hopkins style.
I've never said such thing about Mayweather but he would make Canelo look SILLY. At first my stand on this fight was that Mayweather would school him. Then after a while I said the longer Mayweather waited to face Canelo the less chance he will have of winning. But after last night I'll go back to my original thought, Mayweather schools and embarrasses Canelo.
This kid is 22 years old and trains in big bear and starts gassing after 4 rounds. What type of sense does that make? He doesn't put punches together. He threw combinations for the first 3 rounds then he was just started throwing/hitting Trout with 1 punch at the time. If Mayweather is good at something that's taking away and anticipating punches from his opponent. So one punch at the time isn't gonna cut it.
This kid is obviously after a paycheck. There's no way in hell he beats Mayweather.
Styles make fights. He will not fight Mayweather the same way that he fought trout. Trout is bigger and throws way more punches and even moves more than Mayweather.
Obviously Mayweather's defense is much better but we are looking at two very distinct fights with much different strategies.
I think Canelo is too big for Mayweather. I don't think Mayweather will fight Canelo. He will make every excuse in the world why NOT to fight him. If he takes the fight I will be shocked.
Yeah, I'm left wondering much of the same. That being said, it's a good fight to make, and I think it should be made. If I may borrow two paragraphs from my scorecard post:
"Canelo is a good fighter. I've long said he wasn't just hype, he just needed to go out there and prove it. In that regard, I guess he did. It wasn't emphatic, but it was a job done well enough. There is (and actually has been) a glaring flaw that many have noticed; his stamina and work rate will need improvement. Good fighters have gone long ways losing steam and/or taking rounds off; Shane Mosley/Miguel Cotto come to mind, but in an ideal Floyd Mayweather fight, this is not acceptable. Can you imagine a tired Alvarez trying to box Floyd Mayweather? Perhaps not as bad as, but something along the lines of Floyd vs Mosley, I imagine. That's not to say he shouldn't get a shot at Floyd, because that is a reasonable fight to make.
It should be said, a more active Alvarez would, almost certainly, come at the expense of his defense, which proved pretty good in this fight. And for a guy that rehydrated as much as he did, I was impressed with his ease of upper body movement. For a 22 year old young man, one has to wonder why he has stamina problems? I'm not sure he's yet big enough for 160, but I can't help but wonder if he's taking something out of himself getting down to 154???"
Like I said, it's a good fight and I think Canelo did enough to earn it. It can be made pretty easily.
didn't need the Trout fight to tell us that
but it's more apparent now than before
Alvarez just isn't quick enough to do much with Floyd
don't know if Floyd would really hurt him, but he could tire him out easily
it's a comfortable UD win for Floyd
what do you mean?
Don't pretend there was nothing wrong with what happened last night. Trout had no chance to win after 8 rounds, in a fight that was, in reality and not paid off Golden Boy land, dead even. And Trout knew that every step of the way. There's no way of knowing how that fight plays out if both guys aren't aware of the screwjob happening as they fought.
One minute? That's being generous.
If Kirkland landed ONE shot on Canelo, it would be over for the ginger. So that'd be a 50/50 fight, whoever lands first wins.

April 9th, 2011 would like to have a word with you.
In every fight Canelo takes a minute off every round. Go back and watch.

Ya never know canelo could catch floyd with some punches like cotto did but seriously hurt lil floyd.
cotto and canelo are completely different fighters so i doubt it

To do that Floyd needs to be inside the ring with Canelo and Floyd will prevent that to happen at all cost.

true. i think though, that floyd knew cotto was past it and sided with the risk and traded for more fan allure, knowing cotto couldn't really do that much damage .. i don't think he'd do that with canelo who is a stronger, faster yet less refined than cotto.
mayweather, imo, works off the backfoot in this potential fight, if he's still at 100%. i can better determine from the guerrero fight how this one plays out.
canelo showed some good things in there last night, beat a very solid guy. he should take out ishe as a stay busy fight in the next one.
I hope May denies him the opportunity after that b.s. fiasco last night. I like Canelo the fighter but he needs to earn his way up properly by fighting guys his size and actually beating them fairly.
what do you mean?
and now trout who is better than anyone kirkland beat and if you wanna use the jail thing as an excuse for getting knocked out by someone he should of never been knocked out by then angulo gets a past because of all the problems he was going thru in his life
Trout's resume is just as bad as Alvarez', but I'll take a faded Cotto at '54 over Lopez, who was a jr. welter a year before he fought Canelo... or anybody else for that matter. It's pathetic you highlight Kirkland getting floored by Angulo; wow. Maybe we should note that first round where Alvarez got rocked by the other Cotto. Gee, wonder why he started fighting small guys after that???
Say what you want about the Ishida showing, I think the mere fact he switched back to training with Wolfe and was signed to be fed to the wolves in Mexico just a few months later to redeem himself against a much better fighter than Ishida says more.

Yeah, the one that didn't want to be hugged by another man for 36 minutes... the one that got up and floored Angulo in that same round en route to a stoppage... that lost to Ishida in 2011 after doing a 2-year stint. Meanwhile Alvarez was beating spectacular opposition in career welterweights like Kermint Cintron, Matthew Hatton, and Alfonso Gomez.

the same kirkland that should have lost to molina and got floored by angulo and knocked out by ishida?

Yeah, the same Kirkland that went into Angulo's backyard and stopped him in six. That one.
Wait, let me guess... Angulo was damaged goods .
