I've ran into 2 casuals now who asked me if I knew Rigo and my answer was "of course" then they proceeded by saying "He's good man" while raising their eyebrows. The latest one was today and he was a Filipino. When he initially asked I figured he would talk sh1t but instead told me Rigo was a good boxer. And oh yea, a friend of mine (casual) who's never seen Rigo before said he went to the fight and was like "wtf is this? I didn't come here to watch Mayweather". I didn't know whether to take it as a good thing or bad thing. But of course in his case it was a bad thing.
I was wondering if anyone has ran into this situation as well by any chance.
Casuals will be puppeting what HBO has said and their stance, so of courrse it will be favorable since the commentary was as it was. If HBO had complained that Rigo was not exciting or not crowd pleasing, or not active enough, then casuals would be singing that dance. Imagine if Merchant was announcing that fight..lol
This is a good point, excellent.
Also, he wouldn't had been announcing it cause he would've fallen asleep. :lol1:

Referring to casual boxing fans as "casuals" is hilarious. Makes them sound like some type of dress pant.
My apologies to the casual FANS but I was at work and on the phone so I tried to shorten things as much as I could. :lol1:

Been all positive on this side.
Most people I talk to know the Cuban fighters as they are my favourite fighters and I tend to hype them up, but now they know why. I think the fact that the HBO guys called it fair also helped casual fans...it would have been the opposite had it been the usual pro-bigger name commentary.
I posted a picture from the fight on my facebook page and one of my friends that I didn't know was that into boxing commented on it and tagged it as the most boring fight ever I guess I can see how it may appear that way to casual fans I loved the fight though and so did my coaches who I talked with about it
Chances are Rigo "scared" more casuals away than attracted them but from my everyday life and these replies it sounds like a 50/50. Again, I'm just going by what I see, hear and read.

he's known as that lil' slick Cuban n**** by dudes on my fb ....nothing but praise for his skills....even saw somebody post something on their wall like " f*ck Pacman, thats who Floyd need to fight" ...casuals!!!
Lol yea that's some casual sh1t. Reminds of the guy saying Mayweather was gonna fight Gamboa next. Just cause of what 50 said.

Yeah if people actually know Rigo, they're a bit more than casuals. You never know, they could be posting about boxing in other forums LOL
They didn't know who Rigo was. The first guy asked me who he was and what his name was (I guess he had already forgotten it by Monday) and the second guy, the filipino, only knew him cause of Donaire. That was his first time watching Rigo. I think that says a lot. To have a filipino praise him for his performance after defeating one of his countryman.

I'm interested to know what they guys at the barber shop are going to say when I go on Friday or Saturday. My barber, a former boxer, said Rigondeaux was going to "put in work." The other barbers and customers last week are casuals but I told them they need to tune in. Just to get them to watch it, I said Rigondeaux is WAY better than Mayweather. So, i'll see if they tuned in and if they did, what they thought.
I remember you mentioning that! lol Your barber is gonna be feeling like a genius. :lol1:

That's exactly what it was. A guy with 400 amateur fights who was still adjusting to the pro game. He didn't come into the pros fighting several 4,6 and 8 round fights to build up a 20-0 record. He was fighting a top 10 contender and a former world champion in his 7th pro fight.
In the amateurs you land punches, move away and if you build a big lead, you run away to protect it because its based on punches landed. He built up a big lead and was protecting it, not knowing that this type of behavior is not accepted in 12 round professional world championship fights.
He could of did the same against Donaire (and may have gotten robbed) but he closed the show. And every time Donaire caught him, he came right back with something vicious.
Yes, yes and yes!
lmao
Everyone that thought Nonito was gonna KO Rigo early had the Cordoba fight as reference. After the Donaire fight, I'm now convinced of one of my theories regarding Cordoba: Guillermo was simply a rookie pro resorting to amateur tendencies. I never bought the crap about Rigo being hurt by a jab, but I wasn't sure how to explain the second half of the fight...until now.

Good stuff man. Good thing you didn't do that for the Cordoba fight... :lol1:

A couple things...
1. LMAO @ Referring to these folks as "Casuals"
2. The things us die hards do to get people into the actual ART of boxing. Lying about the time of the main event to get them to watch Rigo is hilarious.
I had a "fight party" for the Rigo/Donaire fight just to send the message to some "casuals" that the fight was a big deal. They'd ask "Is that Pay Per View?" I only got the nerves to invite 2 people over because I honestly didn't think anyone else would give two shiets.

LOL..Yeah. But Bradley made me look bad that night because I was hyping him up too.
I feel you. It happened to me when I had some people watch Dawson fight Pascal.
