I love "the title", the belt...but this is also why I hate them...

Its almost comical. You can become a recognized world champion today, yet if there were only one sanctioning org you could quite possibly not make the top 10.

It just sucks so bad...I cant say it enough, the words WORLD CHAMPION are diluted almost beyond recognition...how about if a guy wins two IBO titles and then fights for a "vacant" WBC title where the real champ has been elevated to "super" status...if he wins does this make him a THREE TIME WORLD CHAMPION???? It appears to me, seems very clear, that the people in charge of boxing dont LOVE boxing...no purist would even entertain doing anything like this...

Its not just the WBC. The WBA has a super and regular champion, there are 4 major orgs and the IBO is knocking at the door the way the WBO was 20 years ago. The fact is boxing has been watered down do to greed. At any time there can be up to 68 world champions in 17 divisions, 85 if you throw in the IBO. We need to get back to one recognizable champion per division.....just one org overseeing the sport. If we do this the cream will rise to the top and we can weed out the pretenders.

I have many friends within the WBC, including at least one very good buddy...I trained a WBC Champion...I grew up in boxing with this belt...and I have fighters I train who hope to still win one of them one day BUT, look, this is ridiculous and it is KILLING us, it is ruining the sport, it is ruining the term "CHAMPION"...It makes no sense whatsoever...the fact is that the men in charge of our sport are rarely men who truly LOVE our sport...they can say they do, they love boxing, etc etc..they are committed to the sport, etc etc...but no one who allows these things to happen can say they LOVE the sport...I hold no ill-will towards any fighter who jumps up and siezes an opportunity to win a title and make money but I just cannot accept or appreciate or recognize anyone on earth as a WBC 168 pound champ other than Andre Ward!! This sport needs former boxers/trainers in charge of it so some semblance of the history can be kept in tact. April 17, 2013 "Marco Antonio Periban and Sakio Bika will fight for the vacant WBC super middleweight belt on June 8th in Carson, California. The two will have this opportunity because the WBC stripped Andre Ward while he was injured and gave him the silly title of emeritus champion. **********, and any other reasonably minded boxing fan will contiue to regard Ward as the true super middleweight champion of the world. In typical WBC racist fashion, Periban, a Mexican is getting the title opportunity despite being ranked lower than Britain's George Groves. Like Periban, the WBC is based in Mexico. According to the WBC's website, Periban said, “I have the chance of becoming world champion, I can’t afford missing this chance, I will train with American sparring partners and with heavyweight Mario Heredia under the supervision of my trainer Manuel Lopez. I will get to the fight in the best shape possible, Bika is a very skillful rival, but he doesn’t have much power, so I believe I can beat him and conquer this title in the name of Mexico." Another pro Mexican move by the corrupt WBC. Periban has absolutly no business getting a world title fight. These guys also ripped the WBC middleweight belt from an established champion (Martinez) so they could hand it to scumbag Suliamans god son (Chavez Jr). The pro Mexican WBC allowed Canelo to fight a second rate 147lber for their version of the 154lb belt. Then they allow Canelo to fight soft touch after soft touch. When Canelo fought Ryan Rhodes, Rhodes was rated fourth by he WBC (a joke all by itself), the vile crooks at the WBC counted this as a mandatory defence. Could some one tell me when any of the alphabet organizations let one of their champions count a bout vs #4 as a mandatory?

Something needs to be done about these sanctioning bodies. I don't know if its going to be a fighter or a promoter but it would be nice to see someone stand up and tell the WBC and all them to shove it. MMA doesn't need sanctioning bodies to determine champions I don't understand why boxing still needs them.

I wish more of the type fighters didn't pay sanctioning fees they will just get stripped or "promoted" anyway

It's also the WBC that's ranked Khan as #2 welterweight without a single fight at the weight and coming off two losses in three fights, iirc. This kind of **** is exactly why people knocking the IBO is so stupid. Just because it's not as old as the other belts doesn't mean it's not at least equally as valid. The IBO should be supported and the crooks pushed into bankruptcy. Why the faith in the IBO?

Still they don't follow their own rules evenly, but it is kind of surprising they would strip Ward for either of those guys because those guys are certainly not bringing in more money or prestige than Ward.
