So to all the so called "Boxing fans" here on BS who say Rigos style is boring, time to re-evaluate.
Casuals want rock um sock um robots, boxing fans were pleased lastnight.
Glad you made this thread.
There's those who appreciate the sweet science & those who just cant. For some reason some perceive defensive tactics as sign of weakness. Imo It takes way more mental skill & discipline to maneuver & rout you're opponent unscathed than just charge in recklessly.
Sure this is a business, I understand that. One has to balance a "fan friendly style" to market themselves, but purely on a boxing discussion (which im assuming the reason most of us are here for) Rigo's performance should have alteast have captured some respect in some form or another.
Sickening arent they? Its also funny because its like these arseholes think its cool to be a freakin anorak!! The sickening bit is how disingenuous it is because it seems to be that most of these nobbers, and my god there has been tons since the fight, are just talking complete bollocks....the kind of crap that threw up the mythical(non-existent) creature that is the 'pure boxer' and P4P as an actual title rather than its genuine meaning as a hypothetical concept!
Bunch of fookin trainspotters, If this is what a 'real' boxing fan is then god forbid I ever become one!
Lol, right on point. Most of them have no ****ing clue on what they are talking about, they just want to put on this facade on being a "highly evolved boxing super fan". These idiots are just buying into the whole Max Kellermen "boxing purist"peeleft: bullsh1t.
You do realize you just backed up my point? He's boring because he does not entertain enough, simple FACT. He may be a boxing hipster's dream boat but he'll stink out the sport and turn most fans away.

You didn't make a point. You're hating. FACT.
How can I "back up" something that never happened?
He's a counterpuncher and a master tactician, bud. He doesn't waste anything. For a fighter of his type Rigo is surprisingly entertaining. Hopefully all the fake fans that couldn't appreciate the master class he gave Donaire like yourself will switch to MMA.

I thought Rigondeaux was entertaining against his previous opponents because he does normally come foward to attack. However he did look boring against Donaire because he had to follow his plan. I do understand he had box in that way but I didn't want to appreciate his skills because the fight wasn't engaging. I am a boxing purist but I like skilled fighters to take risks.
just face it, he's not exciting, no one wants to watch a boxer riding on a unicycle the whole fight, wait till his next fight if he ever get his own card, he'll make bradley like a superstar
Who gives a damn about casual fans.
Its like soccer. If you watch it for the first time you're either going to like it or not. Either way the average soccer game will only have 1 or 2 goals. You can't change it. It is what it is.
Doesn't stop it from being the most popular sport in the world.
We watch it for the skill not the KO's. That's just the icing on the cake. At least for me.
If you're going to a boxing match expecting to see a ko you should turn around and go home.
:dunno: I damn sure don't!!...casual clowns make me sick!!...those motherf*ckers don't know a jab from a hook....all they know is Mayweather and Pacquiao...nothing else!!
You must mean stupid fans?? Coz true boxing fans shouldve loved the fight I no i did!!!
I was on the edge of my seat for the whole fight yesterday and i even rewatched the fight today and im still happy with the fight bcoz it was a chess match at the highest level!!!
I will say that i thought the fight couldve gone either way when i first watched it but i was leaning towards Rigo after watching it again i think rigo deserved the win!!
Amen. It was an instant classic.
No it's the fact he plays it way too safe, he has the physical ability and "skills" but doesn't apply them in a fan friendly way. He's happy to land 6 meaningful shots a round and frustrate the other guy while on his bike for the rest of the round.

Rigo sets his punches and throws with lot of venom he has a good KO ratio IMO he is 100x more entertaining then Ward
yep, he just needs to be matched up well with guys who are willing to let their hands go. Donaire was a horrible style matchup for Rigo, as far as entertainment value goes. Fortunately he's got that out of the way and can focus on getting in the ring defending his BELTS (PLURAL) against guys who are more willing to engage and take risks
:damnit:Can I ask you a question... What is boxing to you? I'm curious
dude stop getting offended
Rigo fights an amateur style, he loses sight of the fact that in order to make money in this sport, you need to be a professional "entertainer" as well as win your fights
You aren't in the ring or winning in the pros, so who are you to say he has the skills to throw more punches or be more aggressive or take more risks. He fights the only way he knows how to fight, and that's to win. You're asking him to take more risks which for all you know could be largely detrimental to him winning
But like I said, he fights an amateur style and does not try to impress or entertain. Before his career is over, I think there might come a point where whoever signs his checks has a heart to heart chat with him, letting him know "it is what it is".
I'm not hating on Rigo, so don't start that sh*t. I enjoyed the fight, I consider myself a boxing purist-type of fan that enjoys more technical fights than UFC blood baths, but to say adding more offense in a fight doesn't make it more entertaining, that's just untrue. We all like to see offense in a fight, it just isn't Rigo's game.
To say that Rigo can't be in an entertaining fight is ignorant. Donaire wasn't willing to press the issue, and lost his belts and P4P status because of it. A guy like Mares, or PDL will definitely take more risks and thus will make a great fight if you ask me.
You're expecting to see a great fight with two technical counterpunchers, that will 9 times out of 10 never be the case. You need to match counterpunchers up with offensively gifted opponents and then you'll see the sparks fly.
Rigo will win almost all, if not all of his pro fights, it's yet to be determined how many of them will be "entertaining to the casual fan". Just match him the right way (he has 3 belts, so guys will HAVE to fight him based on that alone), and thus I think we'll see him in some good fights in the future
This is exactly how I felt too. The guy is a boxing hipster. "Hurr you aint a real boxing fan doe cause you didn't salivate over Rigo's supreme running n sweet science n shit doe hurr."
 Spot on.
i found rigo both briliant and boring.
why do you have to paint people with such a broad brush?
