In a Sunday interview with BoxingScene.com/CSNBayArea.com, Nonito Donaire revealed that he would undergo surgery on his right shoulder after his unanimous decision defeat to Guillermo Rigondeaux on Saturday night for the junior featherweight world championship.
“ hasn’t been feeling good for a while, so I’m going to get surgery on it, take some time off to be with Rachel and the baby, and then get back in the ring after that,” said Donaire, whose wife Rachel is pregnant with their first child, a boy they plan to name Jarel.
In his postfight interview with HBO’s Max Kellerman, Donaire (31-2, 20 KOs) indicated that he was going under the knife, but did not specify which shoulder would be treated until now.
Another pivotal moment in the fight was the emergence of a sizable welt under Donaire’s right eye in the 12th and final round. From ringside, it appeared that a sharp left hand from Rigondeaux (12-0, 8 KOs) early in the frame was the culprit, but Donaire pondered whether the eye had already begun to swell before that.

It was a good fight. Donaire was head hunting to much and it cost him. It was not his night props to Rigondeaux on his victory. He proved me wrong and a lot of posters on here as well.
Donaire was the main attraction he had no choice but take the lead force the action and go for the KO he did a poor job of cutting off the ring and setting up his punches
i agree 100%, donaire was in a tough spot... but his lack of adjustment was inexcusable... if donaire was set on being a counterpuncher, it wouldve been a HORRIBLE fight. im sure the pressure messed with him.
I thought Donaire would get Rigo out of there with a left hook, and he did score the KD in the 10th with that punch, but Rigo showed up more prepared, and dominated every other minute of the fight. I really thought he was going to knock him out in the 12th round. VERY good win by Rigo.
So he can Knock him down but not hurt him? if you knock someone down doesn't that show you have the power to take them out? Or am i tripping?
knocking someone down and hurting them are two different things. there was no indication that rigo was even hurt. donaire pushed off with an elbow to rigo throat and then as rigo was being moved backwards donaire caught him with a punch that knocked him over. good job, it's a legit knockdown, but rigo wasn't hurt though. he got up before the ref even started the count and resumed control.
like if you look at williams' first knockdown on sergio, no one in the world can think that hurt sergio at all. heck i could have taken that punch and be perfectly fine. but it still counts as a knockdown, it just didnt do any damage except on the scorecards.
has there been any type of confirmation on donaire's eye yet? is it just swelled or is there structural damage to that part of his face? cuz the way it puffed up immediately and the way he was protecting it, it doesnt seem like just simple swelling around the eye.
Waiting for a report on it myself.

Donaire makes plenty. When he didn't KO WV2 I think it was he made excuses about his hand. It was legit but still no need for that.
At first I thought Donaire was playing possum but then I worried a bit. Never cool to see someone get hurt no matter if you like them or not.

yea i don't know why people act like this is something new with him and even when he did mess his hand up it seem like they didn't even know which one it was
the real fans? real boxing fans enjoy those high level chess matches give me a break real fans dont need to see two non defensive brawlers to enjoy a fight get the hell outta here wit that real fans smh
Exactly, what kind of boxing fan can't appreciate technical mastery?
I like when a fight turns into an exciting war like Kessler vs. Froch or Williams vs. Martinez. But a "boxing fan" that can only appreciate that side of the sport isn't really a boxing fan they are just fight fans and most likely don't know sh1t about boxing...
Of course, the way he was missing.....you can attribute that shoulder injury to Rigo's defensive prowess. No way a consummate pro like Donaire steps in the rig with Rigo with an incomplete arsenal. Whatever happened to that shoulder was all Rigo. Thank you, Donaire, for showing us how effective Rigo's defence was.
Donaire said no excuse for losing the fight then he turns around and listed so many excuses like shoulder injury, not making weight, not viewing tape of Rigo, not following his game plan there were a few others but I can't recall.
Donaire didn't throw any jabs the whole fight. No straight rights. U can't beat a southpaw with left hooks.
But but one left hook is all it takes...

Donaire Lost this one fight and already fans are doubting him. To me Donaire lost before he even walked into the ring. He underestimated his opponent and you never want to do that. Rigo is a Great fighter himself and he did what he had to do. He hit Donaire and made him swing at the air all night long. But Donaire needs to STFU with his excuses take his little time off. Actually study Rigo and actually have a GAMEPLAN going into the fight. I think if he had a game plan then this fight would have been a lot closer. To me he only won 2 rounds with one of them being the knock down round. If he is the Champion he says he is he needs to avenge this loss with a good showing agains't Rigo because we all know he has the power to hurt him and drop him, he just needs to put in the time to win.
You really believe that "I didn't study him" bs ? He trained harder for this fight then he ever has for any other fight I'm sure he watched some tapes. What was he doing for 8 weeks not working on a gameplan ? Come on.

I guess we have different views of things. How many times has JMM been stopped? How many times was Tito stopped?

Wonder if confidence made him sign on knowing he wasn't full healthy.... Dumb move if so
Nothing but props to Rigo regardless.... Wasn't his fault
C'mon its an obvious excuse he said in the post fight it was like that for 3 years he means the best 3 years of he's career wasn't an issue in 2012 but now that he lost ofc it needs surgery gtfo.
