Floyd Mayweather in the recent 30 Days in May documentary (about 40 minutes in). This was recorded shortly before Mayweather left HBO for Showtime.
"HBO, I'm with them but they play.. they wreckless, they foul. They let Larry Merchant get in there, he don't ask nobody else questions like that. He trying to ask me questions like... (pauses) But I'm just saying - I been loyal to you all for 16 years and this is what I get.
This straight how motherf*ckers is. I'm going to be honest, they look at you like a ho. Once you ain't got the sexy looks no more, to where the pimps can't make the big, big money off you - - b!tch get up out of here, on to the next one."

Everyone, including promoters and networks, provide free services to Floyd. He always gets 100% because hes his own boss. Not even Al Haymon or Ellerbe get paid. Floyd gets every single dime.
True Story Jack.
Yes sir, smartest businessman to ever lace up them gloves.
How does the PPV system work, I'd like to know?
If it's on HBO and I pay for HBO PPV, wouldn't that go to HBO to pocket some $$$ and some go to the fighter?

that was probably my fav part of the documentary....I agree with that comment 100%
lol, and philly guys are supposed to be tough. But you agree he shouldn't have to answer tough questions.
:bottle:
HBO's production crew, HBO's 24/7 series, HBO's staff and commentators, HBO's announcer, HBO's logo......not sure how the thing is set up but I guarantee you that HBO is putting up a lot of resources and money to get the fight out there to the public that will be recouped on the back end plus additional revenue as profits.
Cheers, I figured as much.
Not sure how you could not pay a cent as a broadcasting company to promote a fight not too mention the resourcing involved in organising the whole promotion up to the event.
and once again, when was the last time hbo paid for a mayweather fight? why do ppl keep saying this? do u guys understand the ppv system?
Soo, basically you're saying since HBO don't pay him directly, and he brings them money, they are not allowed to ask him hard or uncomfortable questions about for example his selection of opponents?

When commentators act like they think they're more important than the actual fighters you know something strange is up.
Angel 'The Truth' Garcia said something similar as well so I guess there is some truth to it. There is no smoke without fire.
You're right. They all got fired from HBO.

Floyds problems with HBO has always been about selection of opponents. HBO wanted more competitive fights for the money they were paying.
I totally read this post wrong. I fully agree with you.
To the extent that it's normal industry practice at the elite levels of broadcasting YES they treat fighters like dirty useless whores. Funny thing is they gave Floyd more special treatment than anyone barring Oscar. Floyd is an ungrateful whore.
You spelled "Manny Pacquiao" wrong.
The difference being that Oscar gave the network the fights that mattered the most in regards to what the fans wanted to see and as far as ratings were concerned. Floyd did not. They were probably both given the leeway to fight who they wanted. Oscar chose to fight the fights that mattered the most and challenge himself in the ring to prove he was the best. Floyd's only desire was to get the most money possible for the least risk.
Game over. :boxing:
That's like just saying the NBA made Jordan & Lebron rich. How much money did they make for the league?
They could have played overseas. I'm more than certain they wouldn't have made one 100th of the money they make in the nba though.

Ni99a please.......
HBO just want fighters to fight the way they want them to fight and if you don't they will criticism you and it is not just Mayweather, last year they (Lampley mostly) mocked Miguel Vazquez during his fight with Gesta because they don't appreciate or care for BOXING SKILLS
Lampley favorite fighter is/was fuking Arturo Gatti, so that should tell you what type of fighters and fights he like...Merchant, Kellerman and Lampley have the mentality of Casual Fans, they never boxed so you can understand why they feel like fighters should just stand in the middle of the ring and give punches and take punches and use NO DEFENSE, NO HEAD MOVEMENT and NO FOOTWORK
But to Merchent and Lampley credit, they was giving Mayweather a lot of PRAISE during the Cotto fight which was ultimately Mayweather's last fight on HBO
