that's from his mouth. does this dude plan on coming in over weight? he will get taken apart in the mid to later rounds by a much better conditioned fighter who is extremely sharp.
losing 7 lbs on a 129lb fighter is a lot of weight, I don't care who you are.
Please stop saying a week.
Whats the difference. By saying he is 7 pounds over the limit (129), he is implying that is his current walking around "natural weight" and he needs to cut 7 pounds of water to make the limit. This is done usually during the last couple days, so if he's 7 pounds out 5 days or 7 days out doesnt make a difference really
Water weight/retention is normally lost in the first few weeks of a camp or excercise program. That is why the 1st month or so in the gym you make the biggest and quickest weight loss. Unless his diet has moderate-high levels of sodium, hes probly not carrying 7lbs worth of water weight at this point in time. He's going to have to not eat and sweat out most of that in the upcoming days. Doable? Yes, but not easily or good for your health for obvious reasons.

Absolutely. I don't know what everyone's on about. It's much more worrying that a guy is already down to 122 weeks or a week out. It shows he is over trained or small for his division. Maybe a bit of both in his case.
7 pounds is easy to lose over a week. This is completely normal for all modern boxers. Welcome to the world of the day before weigh in!
He's a small dude.

A pound of water weighs roughly 8.3 pounds. He needs to lose about .84 - .85 gallons to make weight.
With a name like Mathed, I'm hoping that's just a typo. :lol1:

7 pounds over a week is not much at all. Most boxers lose that, and more, with a week left. It really is normal. He probably loses much of it during workouts, but then puts it back on overnight rehydrating etc. 7 pounds with a week left is fine. Nothing to worry about at all.
I can't believe Donaire even makes 122 with his frame. Donaire should be fighting at 126-130 easy. Until he settles in where he physically should be I don't see too many people beating him. Mares/Donaire is the fight to see, I think that is a 50/50 fight in my eyes.
I still think that everyone may be underestimating Rigo though...I also feel Donaire is gonna win but it may not be the guaranteed destruction everyone thinks it is.
I think Donaire highlight reel KOs Mares due to styles. Mares has a chin but Donaire's power transends 122.
7 lbs isn't much to have to lose in a few days, but it's a lot more for a small fighter like donaire....I still think it won't have much effect on the outcome. I think it's a 50/50 fight.
shouldnt be a problem his bread and butter is cutting weight the one thing that always impressed me about Donire more then anything else is his ability to make 118 and 122 with that frame
Nice comment
I agree with you. Filipino Flash Donaire is really tough but it does not mean that he will always smile after every round. El Chacal Rigondeaux is a different challenger for him. To be or not to be that is the question. And we all know well in boxing anything can happen happen.
