Lewis would have been 38 (retirable age for almost every HW champion ever) so OBVIOUSLY no.
Its only not obvious if you are a stupid klitlicker and cant get basic logic about when people retire from sport, and you are stupid enough to call ageing a 'fear'.
On the other hand if Lennox was 30, then there was plenty of room for a rematch, only the of course prime Lennox would have destroyed Vittles twice as fast in those circumstances, and on both occasions.
I think the fight warranted a rematch but it is what it is. It's the same as saying charr deserves a rematch because the fight was stopped prematurely, vitali didn't dominate like he normally does.
No. There's a big difference. Vitali was ahead on points in a very exiting fight before the stoppage. Charr was beaten and was never a threat. Furthermore Vitali had been Lummox's mando for years and had been unfairly stalled. Charr was borderline top 10.

If charr goes onto be something will that mean vitali ducked a rematch? Both sides show a bit of revisionist flair, but for me it was a 50/50 fight with vitali being the fresher fighter, so I believe he would have outlasted Lewis. Would he have done this with a prime Lewis? I don't know, but I don't think this was a prime vitali, I think he grew that night in the ring. This was the fight that he proved to himself that he belonged. I don't see the need to insult either fighter, both great in there own right and both should be remembered that way.
You wouldn't do ****. Calling people all kinds of things, when truly your sorry self has never even been to a gym. Stop acting tough little guy. You're pathetic.
Ignore that and don't let him take you off topic. It's what he wants because he knows I have his ass in a sling with proof Lewis already had plans to retire and owed Vittles nothing.
TKO6
You're so much shorter than me looking at that picture. I would JAB you down.

Klit fans like to harp on Lewis who won and who had already planned on retiring, but they will give you excuse after excuse for Vits not rematching Byrd after quitting in disgraceful fashion. Typical Klit fanboyism double standards.
They defend Vitali ducking Haye too, which is far worse than Lewis retiring. Vitali is going to continue defending the title against weak opponents and claiming to be a champion while avoiding the biggest challenge.
You're so jealous of Vitali. He's close to your own age and he accomplished so much more in life. Go back to the gym fatty.

No.
Lennox at his absolute worst stopped Vitali. He was slower than ever, in the worst shape he had ever been in and his heart was already set on retirement.
He did what he had to, beat Vitali, and went out as the man. So many guys hang on too long when they are past prime and lose to guys that would have had no chance against them at their best, Lennox still won past-prime and then went out.

Lol!! Well he must have been scared before Tyson and Vits since he was already planning it. No need to be scared after Vittles, he beat him at his worst. :lol1:

Lewis was scared into retirement.

If Lewis had carried on and fought others after promising the fight (like Vitali) i would agree that Lewis was scared, but he didn't. He wasn't as motivated to fight anymore and had already started to pile the pounds on before the Vitali fight. Vitali had the best chance he could have got against and out of shape and unmotivated Lewis that underestimated him and still couldn't get the job done. Lewis even fought the fight that suited the younger Vitali more.
Why ould he have? He had been talking about retiring before he fought Tyson. He talked about it again just days before Johnson dropped out and Vits was given his chance. Ironicall Lewis said he wanted one more fight aghainst Vittles or Jones. Vits got his shot and lost, end of story.

I can understand Lummox retiring and that's perfectly acceptable. He would have earned that right even though the ending was unsatisfactory. The thing is that Lummx kept on promising a return if klit did this and that before ultimately deciding on retirement.
So the answer would be that if Lummox had retired following their fight without making repeated promises of a return, it would have been ok. Not great, but ok. But since he did what he did, then surely he should have given a rematch.
Rematch would have been good, but Lennox would have known he'd have had to be in tip top shape to do the business, and if he was, he would have.
However, after beating the guy at his worst, being financially set and not having the desire of his younger days he decided against it.
Hey Freedom, I kind of agree - this thread is mostly a response to another typical anti Klitschko thread on these forums.
For the current HW division I will go to your HW schedule thread later.
Face it bro, this fight is far more interesting (no matter what side of the fence you're on) than any of the crap fights coming up. It's why its still debated so feverishly.
But then, there's also the fact that Lewis told Larry Merchant immediately after the fight that he would 'definitely' give Vitali a rematch 'if it's called for and the money is right'.
But he changed his mind...
Marlon Starling also said not only wasn't he knocked out against Thomas Molinares, but he wasn't even knocked down. In other words fighters are hardly thinking straight immediately after a fight. Like I said before, I plenty more examples if need be. Lewis had been set on retiring and that what he did. He should be applauded.
