Arum has lost his mind and Rigo does not deserve all the hating coming from him. I hope Rigo knocks his protege out and then flips him the bird in public.
lol there is some truth to that!
From what I gather a lot of the cubans in florida don't really give a ***** about cuban boxers.
You gathered wrong, back in 2004/05 I can't remember the exact date, DeCubas put Casamayor against Seda and the Miami Arena was packed, Ali, Dundee (RIP), the Stefans, the mayor and all the Cuban fans were there, 08/18/2012 the Hilton doubletree was packed too and the fighters were Socarras, Barthelemy, Gonzalez and a couple more that I can't remember their names, what happens is that fans like you eat any sh1t Arum or any other promoter will feed you, if they bring a good card to south florida we will go, we did it for Arguello when he fought Pryor at the Orange Bowl and he wasn't Cuban but we love him, RIP, do your home work and don't believe everything you read or heard...
Do Americans still have a negative view of Cubans the way they do of Russians during the cold war? Like thinking they are commies?
Don't see why they would.Cuban exiles/Americans are traditionally about as anti-communist,anti-Castro and anti-anything bordering leftist politics as you'll find.
ho does anyone overrate him?it seems like people get upset when rigondeaux gets mention as an oppenet for donaire and those people are the ones talking about rigondeaux is overrated but i don't hear no one talking about rigondeaux beating anyone and everyone
When people start saying that guy can beat the TOP guy in the division easily that top guy Nonito Donaire is ducking him for fear of losing by KO, that my friend is called overrating.
Guys like Rigondeaux and Gamboa should be fighting on the same cards and in Florida, not f^cking Vegas. You can make exceptions for when you're trying to introduce them to a wider audience via the undercard for a "big card" and that's it.These guys should have been directly marketed towards their own people from the very start.
Then again, would the Cuban exiles really consider Gamboa and Rigondeaux as one of them? These exiles are known to be usually white, extremely right-wing and prone to sympathizing with terrorists that try to hurt the country they claim to love.
lol there is some truth to that!

I have heard that and excuse me if I'm misinformed to any Cubans on this board. That their are a certain barrier or prejudice from the right-wing white Cubans to the tan/black Cubans.
Why doesn't Arum then make him a star and put him in with a star in Nonito? I mean wasn't that what he wanted to do when he was dangling Margarito in front of Mayweather? Or does that only apply when a guy is about to leave his company?

you overrate him and the ones who hate Donaire overrate him.

The video isn't working for me.
There are just about 1.5 million Cubans in the U.S. There are 11 million on the island, with no money and no way of easily leaving. The only way a Cuban fighter will become a star is if he's incredibly exciting, something Rigo is not. Right now, Gamboa is our best bet as an attraction. It is what it is.
Very honest post, props for that. This site is such a sh*thole of nationalistic ignorance that it's refreshing to see people who aren't afraid to be honest.
As far as Arum goes, is anyone truly surprised? Take a guy who is dishonest and add old age, it's a bad concoction all-around.

timothy Bradley sells more tickets than Rigo, Lara, and Cantboa combined. Their only fans are the 5 cubans from BS. True Story.
P. S. Long live Castro.
I lol'ed......
Yea TS doesnt sound like the most brilliant person around right now. Claims 1 cant be a superstar cause of the language barrier and now says DEFECTORS are loyal to Castro... SMH.
Dude, boxing is not UFC, they don't have a marketing machine, plus those foreign fighters who don't speak English don't really do 1 million ppv buys like Pacquiao or Mayweather do.
Some of the UFC numbers are inflated, Anderson Silva is big in Brazil.
If Gamboa spoke English and had a personable personality he would be huge, why do you always get so sensitive? I like Gamboa, he is exciting to watch I like guys who careless about defense and care more about knocking a dude out even if they get knocked out trying. But he needs to add some new elements, and needs to be approachable, he can't use that Miguel Cotto style bland personality he doesn't have the fan base to get away with it and draw 200-500 k ppv buys the way Cotto does.
How many people in the US are from Kazakhstan? There is a huge buzz around Golovkin right now. Sure he's a KO artist and that's a major part of it but guys like Gamboa could be the same. I'm just saying bob arum thinks only about race and nationality but the reality is Americans will embrace anyone if marketed correctly.
I admit though Rigondeaux doesn't have the style to become a huge star, just saying.
The guy is totally not PR conscious, he doesn't give a sh1t. The thing is, couple of dozen people will have heard of this, and even fewer will care, since he's not really wrong. As long as he's having him fight frequently, against solid or excellent opp like Poon and Donaire (!), nothing to complain about.
Gamboa has everything boxing fans want. Power, speed, amazing reflexes etc. There is no reason why he shouldn't be bigger than he is. Im not buying the no English excuse. Some of the biggest stars in the ufc speak no English for example.

Maybe you're right. Let's see what happens now. Yuri's career was stalled for over a year. Hopefully it recovers under "Fitty."
Castro doesn't hate America he hates the government.
But both gamboa and Rigo love their country but oppose Castro. They've spoken about it.
Correct. 2x
bobby was just saying the obvious..he just said it in a fun way... would'nt it have been worse if he lied and said " rigo will be a household name in no time" ?..ofcourse..hell, he does'nt even think nonito is big deal right now, how much more with rigo who has'nt done squat...
and bob is right , nonito's wife is such a bt1ch and nonito disrespecting his faher in public really got the pinoys hate him too...
nonito just does'nt have the likeabibity of a pacman despite being good and exciting...
