I remember a couple of years ago he was being hyped like he was going to be the greatest boxer of all time. Even Mayweather said when he passed the torch it would be to him.
Why was he hyped like this? What was the hype based on?
Devon Alexander is a talented fighter. Look at his resume; he has been fighting tough fights consistently for years, never taken a soft touch.
However; he committed one of the cardinal sins for a boxer; he won a fight he clearly lost. twice.
Fans never forgive you for that ****, and they never forget.
was overrated but all time most overrated?..no
harry greb is the most overrated fighter in the history imo..
and a bunch of other old school fighters like mc larnin , canzoneri, barney ross and fighters that were watched in black and white tv...them guys are overrated as hell...
He's turned out to be better and have better wins than a lot of other hype jobs like Jorge "Duran" Linares to name one. He's also relevant and is a title holder at WW, which he won from a champion, who won it in a fight against another hyped up fighter Mike Jones by KO.
Alexander is not the worst hyped up rookie, not even in the last 5 years.
exactly hes fought the toughest string of opponents out there compare his last 7 opponents to anybody right now and you wont find 5 fighters who have had a harder road.
Not even close to the most over rated. He hasn't ducked anybody. Who else has beaten Maidaina like that? Now the guy he's fighting next Kell Brook is over rated. Not to mention he is still only 25 years old.

Yeah he was kind of overrated, but as far as was he the worse in history, you need to put Calzaghe AND Pacquiao's names as front runners. Considering the fact that Joe and Manny are way bigger stars, way more known worldwide, and neither one has faced more tougher competition, in their prime than Devon, seriously..
I would have to say your IQ is about 60
The boxing community started to overhyped him when he destroyed Urango, in that fight he showed speed, power and boxing skills, it was an awesome performance, I even believed it.
He was overhyped by HBO some no question. But its not like websites and youtube videos were coming out the woodwork hyping this guy rediculously. Its not like he was selling out arenas around the country. The dude cant sell flies to sh1t anywhere outside of St. Louis.
No, that would be Tomasz Adamek.
Alexander is a very good boxer. He just has a godawful style that nobody ever wants to watch and will find it impossible to build a fanbase.

He took a beating of Kotelnik. Thats when the hype stopped.
Yea, he got his ass kicked by Kotelnik, Bradley, and Matthysse.
Lol I think you guys missed my point. Oh well anyway, his hype continued after he beat Maidana IMO... Not as much but I think it picked back up.
You know this man!!
I gotchu man, let me do the talking. :lol1:
Not saying hes worse than Berto but He did quit against Tim Bradley.
But he's a much better fighter now. He has balls... He fought Maidana and the hard hitting Bailey...!
Was? Did something happen to him?
Inb4 Bush's "You must have not met the hypejob/Ginger yet."
