Nonito Donaire vs. Chris John being discussed for March or April 2013 in Asia

Donaire John Donaire vs. John nonito donaire chris john By Chris Williams: Instead of WBO super bantamweight champion Nonito Donaire (31-1, 20 KO’s) taking on the dangerous and highly skilled counter puncher WBA super bantamweight chanmpion Guillermo Rigondeaux next in a toss-up fight, Donaire could end up facing WBA Super World featherweight champion Chris Johnson (48-0-2, 22 KO’s) next in a fight that could be staged in Asia someplace, according to Steve Kim.
Kim said on his twitter: “Would anyone be opposed to a fight between Nonito Donaire and Chris John at 126? I hear that’s being discussed #boxing. Word is that the next Donaire fight could take place somewhere in Asia like Macau (which would be a dream for Arum).”
Somehow I’m not surprised at all that this fight is being discussed. John is a considered a paper champion in the eyes of a lot of boxing fans after beating Juan Manuel Marquez by a highly controversial decision in 2006, and getting controversial draw against former fringe contender Rocky Juarez in 2009, and then beating him by a controversial 12 round decision later on in the year in 2009.
John, 33, has held his World Boxing Association featherweight title for eight years, but his opposition has been less than impressive during that time. We haven’t seen John fight the likes of Juan Manuel Lopez, Orlando Salido, Yuriorkis Gamboa, Jhonny Gonzalez or Celestino Caballero, even though those are the best fighters at featherweight and the most obvious choices for John to have faced. I personally see John as having three losses on his resume because his wins over Juarez and Marquez looked losses to me.
Macau is in China, and I’m not sure why the fight would be staged there, as John is from Indonesia and that would make a lot more sense or Dubai, although I don’t see the fight drawing well over there.
I don’t see Donaire ever fighting Rigondeaux, so I’m not surprised by any of this. I consider John not even close to being the best fighter at featherweight, and I could see how Donaire would be matched up against him instead of the arguably much, much more dangerous Orlando Salido, who would be all over Donaire if that fight took place. It won’t take place, believe me. Salido is too good.
Lol those so fans not calling Donaire a ducker after all those gems he dropped on live TV about Rigo then they're just play fanboys. I guess his manager before the Arce fight got with him and told him "look Nonito you can't be saying that sh1t man. You gotta make it sound like you wanna fight him."
I lost interest in this fight after Donaire's constant and blantant ducking on TV. Not cause of the Poon fight. :lol1: This fight to me is like the Mayweather-Pacquiao fight. I stopped giving a damn about it.

Two guys who were not even champions at 122 to start last year, who are both Top Rank, and you're comparing it to Mayweather/Pacquiao and saying you don't care? Come on, that's way premature.
If the stupid stuff fighters said on TV after fights always came true, very few fights would ever happen.

If Donaire leaves 122 without fighting Mares/Rigo, I think fans are well within their right to say he's ducking. However, I'm not as excited for Donaire/Rigo as before. I had very high hopes up for Poonsawat/Rigo, and when that didn't happen, my excitement for Donaire/Rigo faded a little too. The 12/15 card was supposed to be the perfect lead-up, but it clearly didn't work that way.
Dib is the weakest champ, and I think John is capable of beating Ponce and Salido, regardless of where the fight is held. If Donaire was to go up to 126 and beat John in his backyard, that is a good win and it'd be easier to digest his ducking.

Please tell me how Donaire is suppose to fight Mares and why yall keep bringing that fight up??Arum already said he is not working with Goldenboy period
So he wants to jump up in weight and fight the long time undefeated lineal champion instead of a title holder with 11 fights and ya'll are complaining....wow
John is a paper champion. Every time he has stepped up, he has lost and been given a gift. He sits at home in Indonesia fighting bum after bum.

I'm cool with that move even without fighting Rigo or Mares. Donaire belongs in a higher weight class anyways. I can envision him finding a home at 130 in the end, I want to see how he fares at 126 first though.

John isn't the weakest champ. I also predicted that Donaire would move up, but I don't really have as much of a problem with it as I thought I would have. I guess its cuz the Rigo/Poonsawat fight didn't pop off, so now Nonito has the upper hand.

Actually...he got some pretty decent match ups at 126, Chris John, then take Billy Dib Belt, then take Ponce De Leon belt, then fight the winner out of Orlando Salido vs Mikey Garcia then it is off to 130
That to me wouldn't be a bad year of work at 126 at all despite me wanting to see him fight Mares and Rigondeaux
Bit crappy if he jumps without fighting Rigo BUT the John fight is still a good fight id definitely look foward too that
No its not John is way past it.
Johns not the weakest champion at 126. Hes definetly better than Dib and Salido. Who else is there? Mikey Garcia? Johns arguably better than all of them.
John doesn't deserve the respect of being considered better than Salido. Maybe he is, but he never actually fights anyone.
Realllly disappointed in this fight if it happens. He hasn't cleared out 122 yet and he thinks there is no challenges so he's gonna move up and fight the weakest champ at 126? That's a joke.

Don't say that to Uncle Roger.
