I say he did the dude is a in another level going up weight classes and did what he did is something I would never think Barrera and Morales can do...
Thoughts?
Honestly, my order is a lil different.
1.) Barrera
2.) Morales
3.) Marquez
I'm looking at moreso at who they fought during their prime years in their premiere weight divisions. Marquez's win on Pacquiao, while historic, it's totally overrated. It took him 4 tries to get this and could have practically never seen the light had the 3rd fight ended the trilogy officially. Not to mention he does technically have 2 (L) to Pacquiao and could have been a 3rd when it comes to the official books...
Now I'm not in any way hating on Marquez as the dude has been a beast and putting on awesome fights, but back during this prime years when Morales and Barrera were collecting serious name tags, Marquez wasn't all there...
I'd say Barrera is greater than Marquez , and he is the better fighter , the old barrera schooled prime Marquez and got blatant robbery , one of the most annoying robberies I have ever seen
Moreover , prime Morales kills Marquez in ring
All Marquez legacy is about Pacquiao , Marquez isn't a great fighter in my book ( I am not pacquiao fanboy BTW )
but it is very obvious that Marquez is just a great counter punsher with a good win over pacquiao after 2 losses and draw ( arquably 1 loss , 1 win 1 draw )
I think in terms of natural size Marquez was always a weight division bigger than Morales and Barrera, but saying that in my opinion he is the best.
I think head to head against a prime Barrera he potentially loses because of the style, the left hand orthodox. But for me he could easily be a legitimate 4-5 weight world champion, he just hasn't fought for the titles.
I would certainly put him with the best of the best from Mexico in a historical context, and yes the Pacquiao KO has cemented this, because that was a win for the ages.
I would still rank Morales and Barrera ahead but it's certainly close.
Whereas, before the 3rd Pacquaio fight, it wasn't close at all IMO.
i agree, Erik & MAB's whole resumes still stands over JMM
JMM edges them both in a Best single win category though
Its how berinstain forms them Rafael Marquez has a similar styleYep, just that Finito was cleanest. Some people say perfect but I won't take it that far.
In my opinion Finito has the cleaner boxing style I have seen. He has a Marquez feel to it but way cleaner. And I believe he fought good competition the best at that but nobody knows the fighters in those weight classes also it didnt help that he never moved up. But to me he is the coolest textbook style fighter that I have seen.I agree with your post and the bold is a good way to put it.
He never fought anybody to deserve that credit.
Alvarez is like 42 undefeated fightin bums and catchweights
Chavez said in Finito's lopez face he was a cherry picker lol
Finito might very well be the best Mexican fighter but his resume lacks names and signature wins. Which hurts his greatness when compared to other Mexican fighters.I think a big part of that criticism is his low weight class; he'd have been more memorable had he been bigger. He was as technically sound as they come and had great KO power for his size. You'll find many fans who think he would've schooled Gonzalez and Carbajal. That is a whole other debate, but I'd have to agree that it hurts a fighter's legacy when he doesn't prove it in the ring.
Finito is never given enough credit IMO.

are you really comparing Lopez to Alvarez? atleast he swept his division, something Alvarez has yet to do.
never heard Chavez say that about him.
Finito is never given enough credit IMO.

I agree he is in the same class with Chavez and Salvador Sanchez.
I still think Morales gives Marquez P4P a tougher fight than Pacquiao and Barrera.
If we're ranking the 4 featherweights
I see the list going like this interms of greatness
1.Pacquiao
2.Marquez
3.Morales
4.Barrera
and H2H
1.Marquez
2.Morales/Pacquiao
3.Barerra
Yes he has, he's now up there with Chavez and Sanchez.....
he also surpassed Finito and Olivares
like I always say, we got to take into account the circumstances in which fights are won. A really past prime 40 year old fighter that was 4 weight's above his best knocking out an ATG and top P4P is significantly better than a fighter doing the same closer to their best weights and in their mid 20'sFinito is never given enough credit IMO.
