Prime for Prime?
Marquez outboxes him. In his true prime he was a defensive counterpuncher.
Chavez's style would play into Marquez's style. After 2 or 3 rounds Marquez having the higher boxing IQ would have figured him out and would coast to an easy UD that's if Chavez doesn't quit and the doctor doesn't stop it.
Chavez gets overrated....the only way he wins is through his name "it's tha great chavez!! he has to win because you know.... he's great!!!"
Chavez himself said he would'n't have wanted to fight Marquez because of his style.
Exactly what I think
Marquez beats any version of Chavez. And this is coming from a guy that grew up watching Chavez! Most people here just say Chavez cause of his reputation, and the fact that he's a retired legend.
Marquez is probably the best counter puncher and one of, if not the best combination punchers to ever come out of Mexico. Power dont win fights, skills do!
Yes they do.
When exactly was Juan Manuel's prime? Featherweight? Lightweight?
Either way, The Chavez from Rosario beats any version of Dinamita imo.
Rosario is no Marquez, but I find it hard to believe anyone could beat Chavez that night.
agreed i dont think some people here have any seen that fight. Chavez demonstrates boxing at it finest great defense awesome combo punch with power great stamina...
Prime for prime who would win and how? Looks like this is the topic of the hour so im interested on what the majority thinks
Chavez. Easy.
Chin too good. Hits too hard.
In style It would be like JMM vs Barrera but Chavez instead of Barrera.

I got this too.
Dislike Chavez and JMM is my favourite, but Marquez loves a fight too much to beat Chavez.
Chavez' defense is actually considerably better than JMM's.
Agreed man. People on the boards think chavez was a face first brawler. Chavez was hard to hit and had some great defense. I think since them being 2 warrior the fight would become a brawl and chavez would get the best of it.
Marquez by devastating KO
if PAC and Floyd couldn't stop him no way CHAVEZ does
Floyd based just on his size
Yeah not happening Chavez fought way bigger punchers who never could even come close to hurting him.
Chavez EASY ko
Lol hope that was sarcasm. Or you dont know who jcc is . That man had one of if not the best chin in all of boxing. He was the most underated boxer because of his come forward stylle willing to trade your 3-4 best shots for his one. He stalked his prey and broke them intto submission. He could also box and had a great defense thats looked over Chavez as much ad I like marquez but Chavez maybe the one who stops him. Chavez was in to many wars and didnt take care of his body the way Marquez has so at 39 addict chavez body was the equivilant of an engine with 300k miles with with little maintainance and crappy gas and oil . While marquez is a car with half the miles. Proper oil changes and well taken care of
I'm starting to think people havent actually seen Marquez in his 20's. Even the Freddie Norwood fight he was already close to 30.
in that case lets put 39 year old Marquez vs 39 year old Chavez..... Chavez quits on his stool
I got this too.

to beat Chavez.

no he doesn't. but he lost his legs when he got to SFW. By time he went up in weight he was already in his 30's.
In his 20's at FW a lot of his defense involved actual movement and using his legs. Chavez's defense does get underrated but he's not more defensive than Marquez prime 4 prime. Unless you're referring to old slow Marquez at LW,JWW and WW. Then yes he does get hit a lot.
Chavez is too strong for Marquez
it would take him a few rds to figure him out and get into a rhythm
but once he did he'd start to break Marquez down
Marquez is a better combination puncher, but Chavez has more power
Chavez also has the better chin and the better body attack
Chavez can cut off the ring and roll punches inside
people talk about him like he's just a brawler, but he can box
Marquez commands respect with his counterpunching
guys won't rush him because they're wary of walking into something
Chavez wouldn't take a backward step in the fight
Marquez would have to work more than he wants to
Chavez would win a UD in a tough fight
I got this too.

marquez is a lot more skilled but he has a size and strength disadvantage, he will loose to a prime chavez at 140. I think he could definately beat an older chavez though and giving him an older chavez is only fair since he is ****ing 40 himself and if you want to talk prime vs prime you are talking 126 vs 140 pounds

AGREED.
Marquez would get in his clean shots but ultimately succumb to the pressure.
