Guerrero is not that big of a WW and beat a fairly big one in Andre Berto and also took down Aydin. Those are two legit WWs. This is impressive considering he jumped two weight classes after an extended break to fight these guys and prove himself. He has also shown a great chin in both of these fights. He has also won handily against guys like Katsidis, Escobedo, Litzau, and Casamayor.
Canelo, on the other hand, comes into his fights at about the same weight as Sergio Martinez and for the most part has fought old, blown-up WWs. His youth and size give him a great advantage. I realize he is only 22, but he has yet to fight a top 10 JMW and maybe not even one in the top 15. Ryan Rhodes may have been the only one who fell into of these categories.
How has he earned a fight with Floyd? Let him fight someone like Trout, Lara, Molina, Kirkland, or Martirosyan first. Angulo at this point may also be a step up.
It's a clear mismatch IMO, but here's how the promotion will go...
*Guerrero beats Berto in an exciting fight!
*Guerrero has dealt with personal issues with helping his wife overcome Cancer (will definitely be used in 24/7).
*Guerrero's underdog story
*Guerrero is the interim WBC 147 champ
*Next young Mexican / American star
*Cinco De May weekend
*Floyd's personal issues / jail time
*Mayweather vs Pacquiao out the window
*Roger not training (will this be a problem for Floyd?)
*Will make Floyd seem vulnerable and will show clips of Cotto fight (sell the bloody nose)
Fight comes, Floyd wins decisively, fans still sayin "Of course Floyd was supposed to beat him!"
I certainly don't expect Guerrero to beat him either (I don't see any WW doing so at the moment though), but I think you are spot on in your analysis of the promotion of the fight.

but he's a severely limited one when they're much better competition available
All I'm saying is that it is better than a blown-up JWW or old, blown-up WW.
angulo? seriously?
not happy with it but it will satisfy all the "blood and gut" groupies. canelo needs to hurry up and fulfill his vow to avenge his brother. stop being a girl and fight trout already
At least he is a solid JMW.
hard core boxing fans also know that martinez is too damn big and floyd would never fight him!!!!!!!!!!
But the fighter who is the same size as Martinez and 15 years younger isn't? Maybe, Canelo and Floyd never will fight, but it does look like it is being seriously considered.
Martinez, unlike Canelo, has also offered a catch weight below 154.
There will always be haters of whom Floyd chooses to fight, but the same goes for pretty much every top fighter including Martinez. Floyd himself is old, so I don't see how someone could seriously question him if he fought Martinez whom as of yet has shown no signs of decline.

My ideal scenario would be Floyd-Guerrero in May then Floyd-Alvarez later in the year. Martinez-Murray in April then Martinez-Chavez II in September. Then both Martinez and Floyd could take another fight in early-to-mid 2014 and fight later in the year or just in the first half of 2014. It would be cool if it was the last fight for both.
^^^^ I'm down with this idea, especially if Alvarez fights either Trout or Kirkland in May. It's better to have that potential Floyd-Canelo fight in September than in May to give it enough hype and at least Canelo would be coming off a tough fight for once...
Floyd is fighting guerro in may, and Canelo is fighting Angulo. Tbh that's the wrong opponents for both to get each other ready for a later meeting.
I can imagine this site crashing as Angulo lands a bomb on ginger & the red head does a Pacman.
Josesito landed on ginger
100 YO Mosley landed a few
espn Cintron did,
Reality tv star Gomez too.
Another thing people don't seem to realize is that ginger is not "that" big. He's about Cotto's build. Angulo is every bit of 5-10 & throws very short powerful punches. He's a full fledged jr middleweight & hits harder than any jr welterweight or any shot old man. When ginger gets hit from a real jr middlweight with Angulo's type of power, people shouldn't be surprised when his chin shatters.
if he fights the ghost there will be complaints, if he fights canelo there will be complaints, if he fights martinez all of a sudden martines age will be a factor, if he fights pac... he waited until pac got kod
:mad::yeah:
The real issue is that we have posters on here that will say neither Guerrero or Canelo deserves a go....which is just plain stupid.
Yeah, & absolutely nothing can be done about that huh? I think the Ghost deserves a shot & I wouldn't cry about Bradley either. But if you want Floyd to get all this major props, there's 1 fighter that will give him that. And none of those 3 are him.
Probably true, but I think a lot of hardcore boxing fans would rather see him fight Martinez than Canelo.
hard core boxing fans also know that martinez is too damn big and floyd would never fight him!!!!!!!!!!
Guerrero hasn't earned it either. Beating Andre 'Dixie Cup' Berto means very little. Canelo Alvarez might actually have the maneuverability to make a good showing. Guerrero is too slow and deliberate to contend with Mayweather. Period.
