People who say Maidana has failed every time he stepped up in class are wrong.
He beat an undefeated Victor Cayo. Morales still had some in the tank when Maidana fought him, and he beat a tough challenge in Petrov. I had him up against Kotelnik as well. Not to mention, Ortiz, who Mayweather and Canelo both deemed worthy to face.
Maidana lost to Khan because Khan moved the whole fight and boxed from the outside, and was protected on the inside by the Ref. 1 hand free and still broken up every time. Khan was much more cautious against Maidana than he was against Danny.
Devon pretty much employed the same tactic as Cayo with better defense.
Fact of the matter is anyone that has chosen to face this man toe to toe has met an untimely demise. Give this man his due, he is no bum, it makes me sick when so called boxing fans call him that.
He has dynamite in his fists, a killer right hand, and a mysteriously unreported yet equally devastating body attack.
he is a 140-147 version of Angulo IMO
can put on some good fights if you match him up correctly but he is very beatable for any of the top fighters in his Division
Nah, Maidana is more versatile than an Angulo. More movement, more head movement, greater arsenal, etc. They are comparable in heart only Maidana has never been stopped.
KO ratios are useless statistics. Look at his first 20 or so fights. He just went on a streak of steamrolling bums. Big deal. And your putting too much weight on that Cayo fight. Fact is Devon shut his ass out completely and he struggled with ****in Chop Chop Corley. He's an exciting fighter but that's where it ends. He's limited and one dimensional.
Exciting, yes. But FOH with that talk of p4p potential.
He wasn't at his best against Chop Chop, but he still got a clear victory. And knocked Chop chop down.
Kotelnik was a bum? Cayo? Petrov? Ortiz?
I said he could be p4p rated under the right circumstances. If he wins a fight against Guerrero for instance, then wins another big fight or two. He has the potential to knock anyone out. Brawler, boxer, or whatever. Such a huge component, heart and power, is never lacking in El Chino.
maidana was a top 10 guy at 140 when it was a solid division. he's been in with some good fighters and he's handled himself. the only fight that saw him completely outclassed was alexander. getting outclassed by alexander doesn't hold well, obviously, but he's been a solid fighter for quite some time now.
.
He had just moved up when he fought Devon. He looked the most sluggish and lethargic he ever has in that fight. He needed a tune up before fighting devon to acclimate himself to 147. The fight unfolded much the same way as the Cayo fight did, if Cayo had more power and better defense. But im betting if he landed that rib cracking shot on Devon that he landed on Cayo, things would be different. But Devon fought a smart fight agaiinst a very good fighter that was experimenting with a new weight.
The 10th round of Khan-Maidana still feels wrong. Khan was ridiculously protected every time Maidana got in range or hit him with a shot.
i didn't like cortez involvement at all myself, but chino wasn't doing himself any favors throwing all of those wide punches
to answer the TS

when they keep him at the top he is not a world beater, but he's half of a very exciting fight.
People can say Khan was protected but he stood there and took it in some ways he ****ed Khan up the long term. He did a lot of damage!

stopped right there..Morales has been shot since the 2nd Manny fight
Before that. Remember the Raheem fight? What a disaster.
Maidana does fail every time he steps up, but that's no reason to hate on the guy. He's awesome.
Also he's a brawler but he's also a KO artist. You have brawlers running around with a 40 to 50 percent KO ratio. Chino's is well over 80. You are not giving him enough credit.

Maidana is fun to watch, he has trouble with good boxers, as long as he fights the right fights he wins or looks good. From the first time I seen him fight (against Ortiz) he has been one of my favorite fighters. He needs to rematch either Ortiz or Khan, both fights could go either way.
Never understand why anyone would hate on Maidana, the guy fights his ass off, only seen one bad fight (against Devon), he is nowhere near a bum, the people that think Maidana is a bum are probably the same that think Gatti is a bum, they aren't the greatest, but they are world-class fighters.

No, he's fighting cans (and almost lost to one of them) and looking better only because the competition is low. I don't mean to bash the man himself, I'm just sick of the b.s. his fans spew.
What bum did he almost lose to? Karass? Lol. Right...
Maidana is a good fighter. It's mostly people in love with Mayweather that hate him. They can't stand seeing guys with crude skills have some success.
Kotelnik isn't a good fighter? Most everyone who has seen that fight has Maidana winning, he almost beat a cautious Khan, and lost to Devon "im going to hug you and get away with it all night" Alexander.
Will he ever be up there in the league of Cotto, Mayweather, Pac? No chance, but he is a good fighter that will give anyone trouble. Can't believe so many people hate on a guy like him.
Maidana is showing some improved technique recently along with his usual aggressive style.
I'm thinking Maidana is competitive against anyone at 140 right now.

Khan is the only really big fight he's had
he didn't fail to step up, but he did lose clearly
and he had way too much trouble with an ancient Terrible
Maidana is good for what he is; a crowd pleasing puncher/tough guy
but he's not really an elite fighter
he can beat some guys, but any good boxer can take him
nah he can knock any guy out on a good day.
Maidana isnt the best "boxer" out there but he can bang with the best, has a really good chin and actually has been looking a bit smarter in the ring since he started training with R garcia. Good guy to have in boxing for sure!
Yeah he been using his jab more, and threw in a little more shake and bake. But trust me, as someone who's watched every single match of his. He always had these tools, this "new Maidana" is more of a reemergence of his old form than anything else, though I do give Garcia some credit for his work with Maidana.
on point as always, syf. also, i don't think maidana trained as much as he should've for the morales fight. he looked dead tired by round 3. same with corley. he was super confident of getting an early knockout in both fights. kotelnik shelled up every round and still got his face busted. it was a bull**** gift in my eyes.
Good point. Maidana seemed uncomfortable moving up in weight at first as well.
It stuns me when people do not see Maidana's value to boxing, and his potential to be p4p rated, under the right circumstances.
Morales was shot to bits, it clearly showed Maidana is nothing rather than Morales found some of his old magic IMO
Ortiz has never beaten anybody, a hypejob quitter & Cayo lol
Cayo getting rated now because he arguably beat Paulie ''Hands of stone'' Malignaggi.
I don't want to nitpick but I feel you're clutching at straws trying to convince yourself really that his resume is better than it is.
Nah. I have been a fan of his since the Kotelnik fight, and I have gone back several times and watched his whole career.
Maidana took Ortiz's soul. Quit or not, Ortiz was on his way to being ko'd the natural way. He was eating way too many right hands towards the end and it was actually a body shot that made Ortiz quit. Maidan has ended many of his contests by body shot. Ended things with Cayo as well that way. But I find it amusing how some people downplay the Ortiz win. If Floyd got credit for Ortiz, Maidana should get twice as much credit for getting him first and breaking him in half.
You got Cayo mixed with Cano. Cayo was an undefeated unorthodox fighter trained by Sergio's trainer with Sergio as a second in the corner.
No he didnt if he was even 50 percent of his old self he would have beaten Maidiana...dude has been done and hasnt looked good at all since the 2nd Manny fight
Morales still gave Danny a harder time of it in their first fight and beat Cano who went on to floor Paulie. If Morales was 50 percent against Maidana then he was 5 percent the second time against Danny.
He has a few ''good'' wins but nothing great.
He went life and death with an 84yr old Chop Chop Corley but I suppose Corley had some left in the tank because he beat Paul McCluskey lol
Ortiz was a great win. Arguably others but definitely Ortiz.
So when people fight stupid against him they lose. lol
Maidana is nothing more than a limited brawler with a good chin and decent power if your standing right in front of him and trading.
No if anyone tries to trade with him they will fall. And boxers, such as Cayo, can be caught too.

when did this happen? paulie fought a mexican dude named cano.

and are you going to trust the judgement of a guy who deemed ortiz worthy but not pac? or how about lopez worthy but not trout?
