I feel that Marquez isn't too interested in a 5th fight besides the paycheck.
He's gotten extreme redemption against his biggest rival in the most dramatic way, knocking Pacquiao out cold leaving him face first in front of millions of proud Mexicans and millions of horrified filipinos.
I think that's all he really stayed in the sport for; to prove he was better than Manny Pacquiao. And he did that in the most spectacular way.
If he retires right now it is certainly not ducking but Pacquiao's army certainly have their agenda.
Discuss.
I want to see a fifth fight obviously, but if I were in JMM's shoes, and knew I would never need the money, I would retire right away.
He's 39, has had a tough career and too few boxers are fortunate enough to retire on a high note. JMM has the opportunity to retire after his biggest win of his career, I would definitely not blame him for doing so.
i have no problem with jmm retiring. if he decides to fight on, i would like to see him fight someone besides pacquiao. i think bradley, matthysse, and rios are all intriguing/entertaining fights. and those are just the fights i'm most interested in. there's always garcia, khan, broner (there isn't much at 135 for him outside of burns and vazquez, he'll probably move up sooner than later), alexander, guerrero etc.
but overall, i have no issues with both jmm and pacquiao retiring. they've had great careers and i don't really wanna see either of them take the jones jr/mosley route
I wish people would drop this "Manny gave Marquez 3 rematches" crap. Those matches weren't motivated by pure kindess on Manny and Top Rank's part.
Refresh my memory, but didn't the first fight happen because Marquez gave Manny a shot at his featherweight title? I'll leave someone to clarify that. But the last match was NOT Top Rank's first choice. A rematch with Bradley wouldn't make the money and Cotto refused another catchweight match (he told them to do one). That left them with Marquez. Roach made it known that they wanted a match to make Pcquaio look good before trying to negociate a Mayweather match (as his last two performances weren't convincing enough to give them leverage). They got half their wish. Pacquiao looked better, but knocked him out. This match was billed as them one to end all arguments. The nature of their previous matches, all close, all controversial results was what gave Pacquiao the desire to end it without doubt. He did, on his face.
Marquez earned those rematches by virtue of his previous performances and leaving doubt in the minds of boxing fans as to who was the better man. There was no doubt after this match and Marquez has nothing to prove. If he wants to fight again, fine. But he isn't obligated to do so, especially not by some fans that are bitter about the outcome.
PS. I have no respect for people calling those who step between the ropes for a living, "coward", from the safety of their keyboard.
Marquez is 39 and has been in many battles. He deserves to hang them up with dignity and go out on top. They'll try to spin it as a duck but the man is 39 and has already fought Pac 4 times. Plus i thought the past fight was to settle the score once and for all. Pac gets KO'd and they want another fight? It's redundant. If Pac wins then it'll negate this most recent win and we'll be back where we started. Even the NBA Playoffs have to end at some point. You can't keep fighting every time someone loses. Just concede the better man won and move on.
Marquez should have a farewell fight against a good opponent (Bradley) in Mexico and call it a day. Pac fans just have to move on and admit their guy lost fair and square. Lucky punch? Intentional punch? Doesn't matter. He lost. It's over. Move on.
the ko happened because pac got too happy. should they fight again i see jmm/pac 3 all over again
I don't see jmm/pac 3 ever happening again, there were so many outside influences that effected Pacmans performance.. i see Jmm/Pac 4 minus any KD's
:boxing:
I still believe that a KO wouldnt have happened if Pacman's head wasnt in virtual free fall. Knockdown, most likely, but not lights out . "peeleft:

Uhh yeah. For fight #2"Manny pleas please please give me rematch in a fight where I looked great"
fight #3 "Manny please please please give me rematch in another fight where I looked great"
Fight #4 "manny please please give me rematch even though most people think I won"
Then he knocks Pac out cold with 1 punch in a fight where he was being beaten up something fierce. Manny says "can I have a rematch to redeem myself".
Marquez "LOL no way deewd you can't redeem yourself the way you allowed me to 3 times"
It's like 2 children playing ball where the underdog hits one half court shot and then runs off the pitch to end it in his own cool way, like a coward.
Just be honest. Manny gave him the 4th fight because cotto wouldn't agree to a cw and manny turned down 40 mil because there was no ppv revenue. Is jmm allowed to pursue other offers like manny?
so a catchweight was good for Margarito but not Pacquiao?
Also after the trout fight ever Cotto fan is now claiming Miguel doesn't belong at 154.
Can you guys please make up your mind?
I'm not one of those guys so I can't answer that. Why are you trying to spin it and mnake it about cotto when the post I responded to was about manny. Manny wasn't close to rematching cotto. Stop trying to praise manny for this. He wouldn't and won't fight miguel without a cw. That's not something he gets props for.
I wouldn't say he's ducking, but i would use that as evidence he got lucky. If it wasnt luck, he could do it again. NAH MEAN
you're gonna ride and die with that luck crap i see...lol
No. If he wants to do that, then he has earned the right. I wouldn't call him a coward or a ducker.

I am a Cotto fan but sheesh, some of us are pretty pactard like!
If Marquez retires while Manny wants a rematch, it would be the ultimate coward's way out.
Marquez begged and literally stalked Pacman 3 times for a rematch, and he always got one. He owes him atleast one as well.
Only scared Marquez fanboys/Pac haters don't want the possibility of Pacquiao ruining this little "perfect ending" by beating JMM again. Because the despite the knockout win, it will be 3-1-1 and the KO will not be as significant because it's 1 homerun punch in 5 freaking fights while Manny has 3 wins and the much greater legacy.

He dominated and stopped Barrera yet gave him a rematch. He destroyed Cotto and was close to giving him a rematch.
No offense, but I'm just trying to figure out what you are basing your reply on when history proves otherwise?
That's true, he gave Barrera a rematch for some reason.
Perhaps he would give Marquez another rematch.
U mean he destroyed cotto at a cw and tried to rematch him at another cw. He wasn't close to rematching him.

You are the true idiot so dam butthurt because your hero got his sssshhhiiitttt pushed in. No rematch get it through your crack head it's over. Jmm has nothing to prove anymore. How many more atls are you going make troll
I don't have any alts, but judging by your red K, I bet you do.
FWIW that dude stated that Manny ducked JMM for 7 years and then 4 years after that. Please explain how that happened other. What happened in the negotiations etc.
I doubt you know because like that guy you are new to the sport.
Pacquiao fought JMM, a guy no one at FW wanted to face, right after one of the biggest wins in Pacquiao's career.

If Marquez retires will Pacfans accuse him of ducking Manny? | BoxingScene Community
