Forgive me fight fans if I'm missing something obvious but surely these two should have locked horns somewhere done the line...thus completing the epic 4 way rivalry of Barrera, Pacquiao , Morales and Marquez.
Morales nor Barerra wanted to fight Marquez in his prime. Barrera finally agreed to fight what he thought was an old Marquez, and got a boxing lesson.
LOL although JMM beat Barrera clearly, Barrera was the one putting JMM to boxing school that night
I never read anything on anyone ducking JMM. However, Jim Lampley mentioned something during an HBO broadcast. I think it was something mentioning that JMM had been trying to secure a fight with Morales or Barrera and that he had always been ignored until Pacquiao came along.
Lampley also mentioned, during the JMM vs. Barrera fight, that Hamed had openly ducked Márquez and Emmanuel Steward was there and did not deny it.
It should not be very difficult to figure out,Marquez was(until recently) a high risk-low reward fighter in the lower weights. Not surprising at all Morales did not want no part of him.
Hamed, MAB, nor Morales wanted prime Marquez. He was.too much of a risk and boring was the excuse. I'm glad Marquez will be ranked higher than all 3. Marquez might rank higher than Pacquiao when its all said and done.
I remember reading that he was looking to fight Barrera, Morales or Naseem Hamed but Arum wouldn't put him in with Morales, and he couldn't get the fight with Nas or Barrera because he didnt have the recognition, and was perceived by the Mexican fans at the time as a boring fighter. That's when he started to change his game up and started exchanging more.
If you look at early footage he was a pure counter puncher.
i remember morrales giving up a belt over something that may have involved marquez - but i can't remember the details i'm afraid, i remember there was talk of morrales v marquez at the time but can't remember much - time makes things very foggy! I know for certain that nazeem gave up his belt rather than fight him. (good move from naz marquez would have schooled him) Marquez was very avoided earlier on in his career.
just wasn't meant to be, both were at different levels when Morales was still relevant and morales had a different path.
Prime Morales and JMM would have been one hell of a tear up!
I don't remember for certain but I think they were in talks, but Nacho told Marquez not to take the fight because they money wasn't right? yeah?
Correct me if I'm wrong.
