They want to make money, Trout doesn't generate money. Now that Cotto lost, they will try even harder to make this fight happen because it means big money. Cotto may be on the fast decline too so better get that name on Canelo's resume before he is seen as so far past it that a win over him doesn't even warrant clout.
It's all about the TV audience and there's no reason to believe Trout will draw a smaller audience than most other potential opponents now that he's convincingly defeated Miguel Cotto.
But by the criteria which has defined Canelo's career to date, Cotto is clearly the more desirable opponent. He's smaller and past his best, two big pluses for Canelo's people.
I don't necessarily have a huge problem with Canelo, as a 22 year old, not facing elite opponents all the time. But given the status he appears to be gaining in the sport, and given that he is the WBC 154lb champion, it is time for this guy to face a legitimate threat for a change.

lopez generates money,baldomir,matt hatton gtfo.
now if he makes a cotto fight then, sets up a trout one im fine with it but this money bullshi(t is crazy canelo isn't floyd or manny.
well when floyd, pac, martinez, donaire, etc.. we're making a name for themselves coming up the hard way it wasn't really about the money. they all took risks, jumped in the deep end and came out on top, and now they're all rightfully in a position to wanting to get big money fights. the fact that canelo hasn't fought ANYONE and is getting a ton of money every fight and feels he needs to fight big money fights is BS. he should work his way up like the great fighters in this era did...donaire fighting darchinyan, pac fighting barrera, floyd fighting corrales etc., etc.
damn stole my post i was just going to post this.
i can't believe people on this site are making excuses for canelo he hasn't fought one damn fighter that poses a threat.
the only fighter he fought that had one pulse was ****ing cintron and i think he's retired.
any fighter you name can point to one point in there career where they stepped up all were asking is for canelo to do the same and quit with the fu**king excuses.
lopez had no fu((king fanbase but canelo fought him, baldomir, matt hatton where are the big draws that canelo has fought?
so why does trout have to this big fanbases?

Everyone is in it for the money. Floyd, Canelo, Manny, Martinez, Donaire, each and every single fighter out there is in it for the money.
I beg someone to give me an example of the last time a fighter took less money against a better/tougher/riskier opponent instead of the fight for more money against a safer opponent with a name. Please I beg someone to give me this example.

A non tactical fight is what i call boring. Sounds Like you need to be watching UFC. Nothing but brawling over there. Nothing is more exciting to me then to see two tactician apply their strategy in a boxing match. You my friend should learn to play chess. Maybe then you'll! appreciate the art of boxing.
I would most likely smoke you in chess! Its been a while since I last played, don't get me wrong after watching boxing for so long I have learned to appreciate the sweet science but I'm Mexican we like to see war's!!! It's ok to be tactical just don't be over defensive and make the fight booring.
i thought it was funny that canelo left after trout was announced as the winner....if canelo has no interest in fighting trout then **** him. shows how much of a fake champ he is if he's not going to fight any of the top natural jmws. trout put on a good performance and convincingly beat cotto..he came up the hard way, is a humble champ, and deserves a shot at canelo.
I just wanted to restate myself on this subject...
I hope Alvarez accepts..It would be a great fight,I think I might be slightly favoring Alvarez as well..But if he chooses leftovers or another Jr or WW I'm gonna lose a lot of respect for him...
Trout deserves the fight, I just wish he had a more exciting style, this fight would be real tactical n booring.

a legit 154 champion puts on a great performance and calls bum ass alvarez out post fight... "canelo has walked away." "oscar's not here." surprise, surprise.
Agreed 100% Trout vs. Canelo needs to be in the works come Monday. I like how Austin didnt refer to his management team, and said right then and there, who he wanted. Classy dude in his post fight interview, you gotta love him.

This is a great point. Why did you think they hid Wlad and Vitali for over 30-40 fights? Wlad could have went after the 90's guys DURING THE 90'S, same with Vitali. They both debuted in the MID 90'S (Something most people don't know) they just fought over 30-40 bums up until the 90's era was fading.
If you had thrown in Young Wlad against a 2000 Version of Lewis- he might have died.
So the best thing to do is wait until everyone drys out than you come out.
Obviously the one issue K2 had was that Lennox took a lot longer to ' dry out' the ****er was simply refusing to leave the throne.
I agree some what. The problem I have is that Canelo is only showing interest in welterweights and one lightweight. There are two many jr middles for Canelo to be only targeting Below his weight class. If Golden boy and Mexicans across the glob wants to brag about Canelo being such a great Champion, they should not mind him proving it by fighting Opponents that are natural to his weight class. Let's Look at Broner, he steps up and now all he wants are the ass kickers of each division that he is in. Its foolish to be looking in a lowerweight class when your own class is boiling over with competition and the demand from the fans for you to face, unless your just scared of them. Maybe Canelo should loose weight dropped down to welterweight since thats where all his opponents are coming from.
. Canelo is rapidly becoming a laughing joke!
TE suLol. Troll alert. Canelo was looking for Cotto. He doesn't want a bum ass fight.
Spoken like a true idiot! Canelo sure as hell jumped to fight Lopez after he broke Ortiz jaw, but now he is avoiding Trout just like he's Avoiding the other top ten jr middles. Cotto was the man, now Trout is the man cause he beat the man that Canelo wanted to beat. If Canelos punk ass avoids this fight after Trout all ready calls him out and his promoter, then Canelo should throw away all of his pants and buy only pink and purple dresses from now on, because he will be the very essence Of a scared little girl!
I can't believe people say Trout doesn't deserve a Canelo fight because he didn't knock Cotto out.... the excuses keep mounting
Of course he deserves a shot, but we all know he's not going to get one. If he had KO'd Cotto, that fight more likely would have been made.
