I'm 17 and I live in California's Bay Area, there's no one really around my area my age who have such an interest in boxing like I do. Most kids love UFC. I mean I know a couple kids who box, but no one really into the such vast and interesting history Boxing has given to the world. I've watched countless fights on youtube alone from many of the eras throughout boxing. I stay tuned in to stream the latest PPVs when I can as well..
It's the first and only sport I've really gotten into, and it's amazing. I also got into working out through boxing as well, greatest sport alive.
Its just our generation... I'm 20, and I'm in the same predicament... Its becuz we were growing up in the age where MMA and UFC was "the hott new thing", just like Justin Bieber and Twilight
That's why our generation likes MMA more, but I noticed my little cousin and my nephew "boxing" with their friends when I was picking them up for school... My nephew (who doesn't live with me and I barely see, therefore u can't say I influenced) straight up told me that he thought MMA was whack... I even tried to teach him some wrestling moves, and he told me it was gay
Boxing will be back as soon as our generation loses interest in MMA
Schools have to bring amateur boxing to their programs like they do football, baseball, basketball. If it's because it's too dangerous look at football and it's countless injuries. That would not only make boxing more popular with kids but popular in general.
UFC is more popular with the youth, but there is always that cross over factor that they might like boxing later on. Contrary to popular belief you can like both sports.
I agree
Don't know anybody who watches boxing...
I was lucky to discover it really... Thankyou for that Khan. Introducing me to this amaazzzing sport
I'm an addict.
There are literally hundreds of tv channels nowadays. There's no way kids would focus on just one channel. Most of them are into video games also. Plus, boxing styles nowadays are more defensive-driven and more technical. I appreciated Donaire's fights and Broner's, for example, but you could still hear people booing in some segments of their fights.
I thought Broner's recent fight was amazing, great show of Boxing. No wonder people watch MMA all they want is someone to get beat the **** up.
There's this quote by a Mexican I can't remember and it was "I'd rather die on my feet than live like a coward." Or something along those lines.

its a post Tyson boxing era
Bound to happen since boxing biggest star of the modern era has departed and no one since then has ever come close to being as exciting, explosive, brutal and unbeatable ... so if the sport hasn't progressed, why watch?
It's fine guys, the gym I actually go to was opened up in San Francisco and a city a few miles below. It's free as well, it's usually filled too. You should of seen my face the day I saw these 3 little no more than 10 years old Mexican boys shadow boxing.. it's crazy.
If I am to have children, no doubt the first sport they'll see is Boxing.
many freinds and casual fans i have introduced to boxing have a problem with there being so many weight divisions and belt holders. They can't keep track of all the relevant fighters and who is the best in each division. Also they can really appreciate the technical side of the sport and they don't really understand whats happening tactically.
kids are into facebook and video games
most young people follow elders into boxing fanhood
if their parents don't like it, they won't pick up on it
and as for actively being in it, not enough boxing programs
and even if there were more, parents won't endorse them
they don't want their kids to fight so it's a no go
would be better if more kids were into it
boxing just doesn't get marketing strongly enough
The funny thing is, how I got into boxing was..
My friends had a lil "fight club" after school last year.. so I thought I could beat ass.. I got my ass handed to me hard. I didn't like it, but I loved it at the same time. I ended up going to my friends boxing gym, went once and was the guy that didn't show up again. My record there being 2-1 lol.
Months later I had a Junior Year project to research anything with history, my teacher started saying examples.. "Hiroshima, the Berlin Wall, Muhammad Ali." I instantly thought "Damn I'll do Muhammad Ali since I don't know what else to do..." After learning about Ali, I instantly got hooked to boxing.. It's amazing how I fell in love with the sport. I love being Filipino and having such a different perspective on Pacquiao's fights, you should see the looks my friends give me haha.
EDIT: Oh yeah, I came back to the fight club and won 2 fights. :) Still currently working out with boxing, that as well introduced me to what being healthy was.

No way boxing will ever become popular with the youth.
Way too many forms of entertainment in this day and age.
Tweeting, chatting, texting, you name it.
Youths of today can't even focus on one thing for a minute
at a time.
They can't stand commercials. They can even finish a tv show
without touching the remote. I can't.

Interesting. Thanks for the video evidence. If all this is right then you're correct, the discussion is even more meaningless than all the other meaningless shit we argue about around here. :lol1:
no problem bc i used to think they were in direct competition but have spoken to boxing insiders with more knowledge and they have said it is a very minimal part of the fan bases that they are competing for. One of them said it is similar to 2 shows going on and one is a rap concert while the other is a rock concert and the 2 will do little to effect the other.

i asked dan rafael about this in his chat once and he said studies have showed that those fans would never have really had an interest in boxing more so the ufc is in competition with wwe

I am 21 from San Antonio and boxing and soccer were the biggest sports with my friends. I live in a Mexican neighborhood what part of San Antonio isnt really San Antonio is about 66% hispanic so the city im from has a huge boxing fan base and no matter what the age wether it is 16 or 65 it is just real big in the Mexican community. I also have cousins out in Arizona in the Tuscon area who are teenagers and big boxing fans so from my point of view I know a lot of young boxing fans and old boxing fans also so that is my 2 cents.
