I think Broner looked great last Saturday and hes world class, but i think Rios has the perfect style to beat him. I have yet to see Broner get on his toes and box (effectively). He seems like hes best at stalking his opponent (De Leon, Demarco, Escobedo, Litzau ect) and i think Rios would be more than happy to make it an in close exchange. Rios doesn't have the long arms of Demarco, he has short arms made for compact hooks and in fighting and hes already naturally stronger than Broner and IMO hits harder. Since people like comparing him to Mayweather, i wanna bring up the first Castillio fight. Floyd tried early to bang a little with Jose to prove that he can stay inside with him when he needed to , but when it didn't work, he was forced to fight on his heels for the remaining portion of the fight. This is the biggest difference between Broner and Floyd. Floyd had the ability to fight on his back foot because that was natural to him, he had the skill and ring IQ from a technical standpoint to do so. Broner hasn't showed me yet that he can box/counter while on his toes. If he did, he would have did that to De Leon. Broner would not, and i repeat not, get the better of Rios in an up close dog fight. It simply wouldn't happen.
I don't think Rios is the guy to beat him either. Honestly, I thought Demarco, being a southpaw and having such a height advantage, had a good shot. I underestimated how much of a one handed fighter he is, though.
Rios has a better shot because of his commitment to go to the body, and the way he puts two or three punches together in exchanges. His left can come in the form of a hook or a power jab, while his right works on the body and on going over the shoulder. But, Broner looks much too strong and durable to be worn down by Rios before breaking Bam Bam down himself. i see him beating him to the punch and having all advantages on the outside.
To beat a broner/mayweather type of fighter, you need fast feet, and I mean fast, that way you can hit him and get away before he counters you.
Martinez, ali, dirrel are the type of style that can beat the phillyshell
Rios will get counterd to death.
That is why floyd loved comeforward type of boxers and fear martinez like he was the devil
I'd love to see this fight. But who are we kidding?
Broner won't be fighting the likes of Rios anytime soon.
He is managed by Haymon. He will go the Berto route when
he was undefeated for a long while and will hold on to his zero
as long as he can by fighting boxers with three fans.
:unitedsta
i think both rios and garcia have about an even chance to beat him; mathysse beats him.
I agree, I think Mattysse walks right to him and while Broner might be able to avoid the hammer for a while, it would be just a matter of time
And while people keep talking about this "philly shell" special defense, Mayweather Sr (who made it famous) stated in a video that Broner doesn't even do it correctly and i definitely remember Demarco hitting him flush on numerous occasions.
Bro, let me type something seriously, i'm gonna try to give you an explanation. Have you seen Rios' style and how he likes taking punches? Did you see his fight against Alvarado? Forget about Abril, that was a fight he lost but got a gift; I won't bring it up.
You just did
But did you see his "war" against Alvarado and the punches he took in that fight? Have you seen Broner's inside game, power, speed, defense? I know, I still didn't explain anything. Sorry.
Yes it was an all out shootout, and what impressed me is that Rios, moving up in weight, was able to bring the fight to the naturally bigger guy and wear him down with a variety of punches. That my friend, is impressive.
Rios has yet to fight an ELITE fighter. He's fought good - to very good fighters, but not yet an elite fighter and he's already lost once and been hurt several times.
Lol and Broner has?? Demarco was seen as the best fighter hes fought to date and I've said repeatedly that Broner looked fantastic, but lets be real here for a minute man. Demarco is face first with no head movement and did not have a game plan. I'd say Alvarado, Acosta, Abril and maybe even Antillion, would have excellent shots at convincingly beat Demarco. So yeah i don't think we should bring opposition into the equation.
Haven't heard a serious response to why Broner would win yet. All I'm hearing is "philly shell" and "Richard Abril" You gotta come harder than that. How does Broner get the better of Rios when hes not a natural counter puncher? If Broner does get tired and sees that he can't hang with Rios in close, would there be a plan B the way Floyd had against Castillo to box on his toes and sharp shoot? I'm not confident that he has those intangibles.
If you really don't understand why Rios style is tailor made for Broner, you'll never know and you'll never see an explanation even if it's right under your nose. I think Broner could win every round and force a stoppage and you'd still question how he could win.

This is like asking, and being confused as to how can Floyd beat Chavez Jr.

The body is where Broner would do his damage. Rios imo is tailor made for Broner.
I don't think he can sit there and trade body shots with Rios. He looked like a beast in close against Demarco but lets not get outside of ourselves here. He was fighting a nearly 6'0 lightweight who's body has a target on it for anyone with short arms and can throw short punches. Rios would be more than happy for Broner to stay in the pocket like that.
If this fight miraculously happens, and Broner beats Rios' face in to a pulp and wins, i'm curious to know who would be the next brawler people think is going to beat Broner.

Broner would do what Abril did to Rios, but the difference is that Broner brings MUCH MORE POWER
Broner gets inside like he did against DeMarco and DESTROYS Rios with those Quick Hands
Why are people back to Hyping up Rios...AGAIN, he did not look all that good against Alvarado
Who would you pick if Alvarado and Demarco fought at a catch weight of 138?
pshhh when ur formula is to simply outlast the other guy every fight, sooner or later ur gonna get knocked out. broner can very well beat rios and broner can very well hurt rios as well. rios has a solid chin but he has been hurt before by lesser punchers than adrien broner.
Please revisit Rios. His style isn't based out "outlasting". Its based on getting inside, throwing short compact, powerful combinations and wearing you down. There is a lot of skilled involved in Rios's style. One thing that he is good at that no one pays attention to, is his ability to slip shots when his head in his opponents chest.
Abril and Broner don't fight the same way. You need to exchange with Rios to give Rios a chance. Abril did not do so.
Would Broner exchange with Rios? Who knows, but if he does then there's a case where Rios can win some of those exchanges. And who knows how Broner reacts to a flush hook.
Agreed. I was just using the similarities for effect in reply to that particular post. Nonetheless, Abril utterly nullified Rios's game. If he can do it, Broner can do it...any way he chooses, IMO. Adrien demonstrated in the DeMarco fight that he's quite adept at fighting on the inside. He stood in the pocket and dismantled Tony. Now, Rios may be a bigger, better fighter than DeMarco come fight time, but I'll wager that it would be more of the same.
Other differences between Richard and Broner are power and speed. Adrien hits hard, not one-punch KO hard, but plenty hard. Broner has the handspeed to repeatedly land those shots and pound a walk-forward fighter into submission. Adrien's chin has yet to be tested, so we don't know how he'll handle some good shots. But Rios isn't a one-punch KO artist, either. "Bam Bam" tends to wear down his opponents, but that's not so easy to do against a defensively tight boxer like Broner.
Regardless, I'd love to see the fight, although it may not come to pass.
Nobody Thinks Broner Beats Rios. Nobody. But Broner fans Or Floyd fans.
Evidently, a lot of people think Adrien beats Rios. Many of them, including myself, are not fans of Broner or Mayweather.
Imo Rios would stop Broner.. Rios hits way harder than De Marco or Escobedo. We know wjat Broner looks like against hard hitting pressure fighters (DeLeon). Rios is a beast!!!
And we know what Rios looks like against defensively savvy fighters who use a shoulder roll and "Philly" shell (Abril). Broner hits harder than Richard, so the punishment would add up. Like him or not, Adrien is the real deal.
Rios with his clinch, head on opponents shoulder, constant short hooks to the chin will give broner lots'a trouble.
Yeah defenseless Broner with no inside game will definitely have trouble with a dude who probably can't even spell defense.
Like I said, keep feeding him these type of guys, he's going to keep knocking them out or beat them to a pulp over 12 rounds. You got no defense, you're going to get blasted by Broner.
