There's no rule mate, the skill level outside the elite has considerably declined in the Heavyweight division. Plus Vitali and his brother have no inside game. This is not a knock on their skill because they have never been forced to infighting (except against Lennox Lewis).
He was an exception to the rule, but to be fair Vitali also has a massive punching output, throwing over 700 or 800 punches per fight.
Good point. I forgot about Vitali's insane output.
But a lot of those are arm punches (due to the dodgy shoulder) and jabs.
So why could Bowe fight like that?

Oh man of course that's a lot smaller, 25 pounds is a lot! Take for example guys at 135 and guys at 160, their punching output is completely different.
Muscle consumes a lot of calories, so if out of those 25 pounds we get that maybe 15 are of pure muscle, we're talking about expending a lot more calories that guys that were 210 or 220.
Mate, Bowe was a superheavy at 240lb when fit. It's pretty damn impressive for a big man like him to showcase that type of ability to fight on the inside.
Back in the days, referees allowed infighters a chance to do some work on the inside. And those who tried to hold and grab were often warned or penalized. I seem to also remember refs coming in and moving a fighters arms down if they just instinctively reached up to grab.
If you notice in the gif, Cortez attempts to break up the clinch but gives them an opportunity to make of something out of it which results in fast counter hooks on the inside. Awesome. :boxing:
Most of the Boxers today (bar the K2) are just fucking lazy.
Thats not a lot smaller
Wlad was around 225 lbs when he started
Dempsey beat Willard who was ****scko of the past at 6'6" 245 lbs

Most HWs weren't like that. Ali, Tyson, Norton, Frazier, all those guys and a lot more were around 210-220.

Sanders was 225 lbs when he nearly ended Wlads career
Bowe was 6'5" 240
But thats cruiserweight size to the minds of the ****schko fans

Those HWs were a lot smaller than present heavyweights. Those guys were just above cruiserweight size, not 240+ pounds like Wlad or Vitali.

No. And it's sad. The heavyweight division has deteriorated so badly.
Superheavyweights killed it. Our average heavies have to turn into lard asses to compete. :(
Its because VK took the fight on 10days notice.
They both took the fight on ten days notice you retard. However, both were already in training for a fight around the same time so that has nothing to do with it at all. VK was in great shape. It was Lewis who was in poor form.
Nope, just look at a young Wladimir punching himself out in just 5 rounds against Brewster lol. Or a young Vitali absolutely exhausted by the 6th against a 38 year old out of shape Lewis, I could understand Lewis being gassed but not a young prime guy in Vitali.
Its because VK took the fight on 10days notice.
The REAL reason prime Vitali lost to Lennox is because he has no inside game. None of the modern Heavyweights do. Wlad CANT uppercut!!!

Thats what fighters of the past did during holds, they FOUGHT THERE WAY OUT, not lean and wait for a nanny ref to break them up. The Klitschkos would get destroyed by fighters of the past.
Lot of past HW were comparable to today's cruiseweights.
Foreman is the typical example of real HW in any era (including today's era).
That being said Foreman was badly gassed in Ali's fight. But he rarely needed to go on distance. It would be similar with today's bests.
The main reason Foreman was so badly gassed was not only because of his high workrate but because of the temperature. Just like Ali-Frazier the fight took place outside, the temperature was 100+ degrees with over 90% humidity, having a high humidity makes it feel hotter than what it really is and makes it very hard to breath.
My uncle told me he's been in 120 degree weather in Arizona, however since the heat is dry it feels like nothing compared to our 100 degree weather with 90% humidity. Idk if you've ever experienced heat like this but you can get tired from just walking lol.
