I can see it now 10 even 20 years from now, people with the fantasy match ups . And the "why Floyd never fought PAC" threads,. Is his name almost synonomous with boxing for eternity?
I honestly don't see Floyd as even top 50 all time fighters. How can he be when he never face the best fighters in their prime in his era.
He'll be remembered by fans as a defensive minded boxer with very good foot and hand speed. He fought cautiously and was cautious picking opponents also. He was an undersized welter with below average power and was more suited for the junior welter class.
His well documented problems out of the ring unfortunetly detracted to his reputation and also added to inactivity as a fighting champion.
His talents are unmistakeable however his short comings might over ride his
boxing talents.
BUT his career isn't over yet and we may see a different Floyd Mayweather within the coming year! If the Pacman fight can't be signed by April then its a dead horse! If it is signed I would expect to see a "fighting Mayweather" who doesn't go to the ropes and will continue to counter but will also take the lead more often. I believe he can accomplish this new "attitude" once he stops reading "numbers"! Forget how much $$$$Money$$$$ and forget the "0" on his record. Start regarding himself as a Boxing Champion and take pride in his art! If he could transform into that individual he could defeat Pacman.
Ray.
Very true especially the first part
Yes, same as Leonard, Robinson, and Louis
By no means is he as great as them, but he stood on top of the boxing world and made it more popular than it was just one generation prior
Him and Pacquiao pretty much buried De La Hoya's reign, and now no one really acknowledges it anymore unless they're comparing fighters from that generation to Floyd and Manny... e.g. Who would win, Trinidad or Pacquiao, or Prime Mosley vs Prime Floyd, etc

Alright we can stop posting on this thread now. Tired of all the mayweather vh1 reality special. Just wanted to see what all the unbiased boxing fans think.
Floyd is the master...he doesn't need to fight and everyone is talking about him..every thread is about floyd..no one talks about pacquiaos next fight..and why should we..it's not interesting..we're sick of piss drinker beating him
Thats the boxing forums, not the general public, and in ten or twenty years there will be another generation of fans with their own star fighters, so like I said it wont last very long, not this time because there will be no coming back.
Floyd will behovering around the same mark as DLH and Morales when he retires for good.
He was talked about on forums when he took a layoff as people wanted to know when he was coming back so someone can beat him. Once he retires for good and people know hes not coming back, he will be forgotten, as the only reason people talk about him is when hes coming back so they can see him be beaten and as people know he wont come back there would be no reason to mention his name.
He will be talked about in the same vain as Joe Calzaghe. Could have done better and more.
Floyd is a bullsh1tter. He said he's going to fight five more times just a few months ago when he was promoting Cotto. Schaefer is offering him Canelo. What did he do? Retire again. How can you tolerate a guy like that?
he is already irrelevant, his next fight has a huge question mark on it (i'm guessing berto, ironic considering mayweather's so called drug crusade). mayweather only cares about the money and doesn't give a fuck about the fans. he doesn't even fight that much and the ones the does fight against is pure cherry pickin'. a woman beater who has no family values what so ever. history will remember him for his antics outside the ring rather than the ones inside.
What about your heros next fight..piss drinker again?? How many times does piss drinker have to beat pacquiao up???
Then bradley again...
Pacquiao is a bum..he lost to a sh1t fighter like bradley
Yes I mean relevant as in his name constantly being brought up by his fans.
That really depends on what degree he can limit the embarrasment he heaps on himself between now and the end of his career. He is losing a lot of fans daily at the moment it would seem.

Floyd is one of the greatest boxers of all time..
It's hard to fight pacquiao...mr congressman has already fights lined up..he's not interested in mayweather..now he's gonna fight piss drinker..then bradley then piss drinker again..and again and again :lol1:
pacman has no say..arum is his boss..he has to bend over when he's told..
He retired before and the forums were taking about Floyd everyday all day.

What do you mean by relevant? If you mean still have an impact on the sport then no, not exactly a mark against him though. Sugar Ray Leonard is no longer relevant, same with Tommy Hearns.
If you mean will people still talk about him then yes. He's one of the best fighters of his era and one of the best of all time in terms of technical ability. He will be compared with past greats and used as a yard stick to measure new fighters.

just about when heis coming back so someone can kick hisass, rather than about how good he is.
I think he will be quickly forgotten about once retired except to boxing fans.
