@ what weight? I would have to go with Mathysse at 140 and never seen him fight at 147 but as a betting man I would still go with Mathysse. I have had the honor of seeing Mathysse fight and let me tell you that his punches echoed the staples center and Maidana gets hit way to much. Lucas has improved his D tremendously his last two fights with his head movement and the only thing Chino developed was a sloppy jab. I really dont see any 140lber beating Mathysse, if he were a big $$$ draw he'd be top 10 p4p.
I think both get hit far to much, and I really don't know how Matt's will take a few shots on the chin...
Lucas must fight danny garcia ....no excuses..he deserves his shot for the regular belt and maidana has to keep 0n 147 fighting big names like the winner of guerrero /berto... no reason to make this fight and i don't know at least one argentinian that want to this fight happen
now you know how i felt when they announced rios/alvarado..........
Matthysse at either weight. I'm not convniced Maidana should be at 147 anyway, but Matthysse is a far more rounded boxer. I wouldn't pick anyone against Matthysse at 140 to be honest, he's a monster.
Two of the biggest names in Argentine boxing today, and none of their country-men wanna see them fight? That doesn't make much sense lol
it makes sense to me. amazing fight down the road once all is said and done.
Some people nailed it right on the head. Matthysse may have performed better against pure boxers than Maidana has, but when it comes to sheer grit and unchecked destruction, I believe Maidana has the edge. Matthysse is there to be hit and anyone that is there to be hit is right in the wheelhouse of Maidana. That's why I said at 147 Maidana would be too much for Matthysse (ko or stoppage for Maidana), and probably at catchweight too though that would be competitive to the final bell. Maidana going down to 140 would be all wrong for him because its very rare for a fighter who went up in weight then went back down and kept his same chin. El Chino would be possibly stopped at that weight.
I think Matthysse would edge this, but Chino is really trying to learn some new things. I'd like to see this down the road for sure. I think Chino is staying at 147 so maybe if Matthysse moves up in the future.
I say Matthysse because I feel he is a bit more sound technically, but the fight would be Maidana's kind of fight so you certainly can't write him off.
It would certainly be a war also.
This is how I view the fight as well..Although Matt's is the more technical of the two,he will be there to be hit..Chino is a tough S.O.B.I would not write him off either...

I would be very impressed if Lucas stopped Chino.
lucas would not stop throwing to the body, wouldn't suprise me honestly. the more i think about it the more this becomes a 50-50 fight though. matthysse being the better boxer means absolutely jack here. whoever lands the first big shot can take it.

This can't help but be a great fight. I am a big fan of both of them so I sort of hope it does not happen because I'd rather see them smashing other fighters. It might be the type of fight that takes something out of both of them. I have never seen either of them retreat. These two really come to fight.I pick Matthysse to win. He punches as hard or harder than Maidana and he is faster and a better boxer. Maidana's punching power, gameness, and toughness would probably help him to go the distance. Either man has the power and finishing skills to score the KO.

Matthysse stops him at any weight IMO
Hes just flat out better than Maidana in every department.
Dan got it right, he usually does. Against world class fighters Maidana is little more than a punching bag
i would favor matthysse right now. he matured more as a fighter since the amateurs and is a relentless body puncher. i think maidana fell too much in love with his power but it's good he went back to basics in his last fight. the talent's always been there for him, he was rolling and countering as early as the kotelnik fight and showed an effective jab and good defense here and there in previous fights but overall he just looked too crude trying to land those megaton bombs he has in his fists.
