After a few days of uncertainty following disagreement over the big purse that Jorge” Travieso” Arce was demanding to fight WBO super bantamweight champion Nonito “The Filipino Flash” Donaire the issue has been resolved and the fight will push through at the Toyota Center in Houston, Texas on December 15.
Top Rank promoter Bob Arum told the Manila Standard that “it’s a done deal.”
Donaire was at special ringside when Mexico’s Gamaliel Diaz upset defending WBC super featherweight champion Takahiro Ao at the Tokyo International Forum in Japan over the weekend.
The WBC reported that Donaire was present to witness the surprising twelve round unanimous decision victory of Diaz.
The WBC described Donaire as “one of today’s sensations in boxing” and has been closely associated with Japan as he regularly visits and spends time in that beautiful country.
The Manila Standard noted that when Donaire scored a 9th round TKO over Japanese southpaw Toshiaki Nishioka last October 13 at the Home Depot Center in Carson City, California there were some Japanese friends and supporters who flew to watch Donaire’s fight although many more arrived from all over Japan to support Nishioka.
Donaire's rousing win in which he also dropped Nishioka, the classy southpaw in the 6th round with a perfectly-time uppercut, proudly displayed the WBC Diamond Belt he won at the Diaz-Ao title fight.
Arum also confirmed that undefeated southpaw Mercito “No Mercy” Gesta (26-0-1, 14 KO’s) would face IBF lightweight champion Miguel Vazquez on the undercard of the fourth showdown between Manny Pacquiao and Juan Manuel Marquez at the MG< Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas on December 9, Manila Time.
Gesta’s trainer Vince Parra said the fighter from Mandaue in Cebu is “ready to go” and that Gesta’s father Anecito Gesta has been a great help in training the southpaw, motivating him and keeping him isolated.
Parra indicated they would move to the quiet of Big Bear on Thursday to also benefit from high altitude training for what he believes will be a tough fight because of the somewhat awkward style of Vazquez.
He said Gesta “is coming along great and is ready to pull the trigger and be taken off the leash.”
There are things he does that suits Mercito very well. He is an unorthodox guy but Mercito isn’t very orthodox himself, so we feel very comfortable. He is a champion and we respect him but Mercito is excited to get that belt.”

yes its his 4th damn fight this year, his 4th man...rigo has 11 damn fights he aint going nowhere, damn tell him to step his game up and fight more, donaire fought 4 times this year what was rigo doing?...
Exactly right. Donaire has had a great year. Even if Arce isn't the greatest fight he is almost taking this as a stay busy fight. This is how all boxer should act, Not wasting their prime.
As for Rigo, he can have it next year, its actually he who should fight more often, he isnt getting any younger and he isnt exactly young.
I have no problem with Donaire/Arce when taken in its proper context, but 4Corners makes a good point. There was no reason to fight Vasquez if Arce was available. Can anyone remember why the fight didn't happen then?
Arce backed out! He's not ready to retire yet! Now he's ready!

Waiting for Retirement Check!! hehe

Cause Arce dropped his WBO belt to rematch Angky Angkota lol at 118 when Donaire set sights to it. So he fought WV2 for vacant WBO

rigo can get it next year, donaire had a damn good year this year and will continue next year, rigo is nothing special at all dont get the hype
Well I guess Vazquez Jr, Mathebula, and Arce were all far more proven at 122 than Rigondeaux......They weren't, and that's why Donaire continues to get s**t for not fighting him.
I'd bet the house on Donaire not fighting Mares/Moreno or Rigondeaux before he leaves 122. It'll be Arce, than probably Lopez or Dib at 126. Than Salido, unless he loses to Garcia. Donaire-Garcia won't happen, for obvious reasons.
He'll leave a big hole at 122 if he doesn't fight Mares/Moreno and/or Rigondeaux.
So I guess Vazquez Jr and Mathebula were coming off dominating outings and have amazing resume's. Rigondeaux has technically beaten more Top 10 fighters at 122 than WV2 and Mathebula combined (Rigo beat Cordoba and Ramos/Mathebula beat Ndlovu).
But Rigondeaux needs to prove himself more......
Why not fight Rigondeaux and unify titles once again??? Because according to his fans and his trainer, it's easy work against Rigondeaux. If it was, they'd fight him without hesitation.

he had more than 11 fights didnt he,and who ko'd him??arce right so he is taking both out in 1 year..rigo can get it next year...
Donaire will win Fighter of the Year, and rightfully so, it was a rather weaker year to be honest though.
I guarantee you Mares/Moreno and Rigondeaux won't "get it" next year. He'll go up to 126 because 122 doesn't excite him enough anymore.
He's had a pretty solid year, but an ATG year by any means. He fought one really good fight, Nishioka. He fought another decent fight, Mathebula. He fought a very ehhhh fight against a surely over matched opponent, Arce. He fought a crap fight as well, Vazquez Jr.
thank you he will have fought 4 times in 1 damn year and people are talking bout some dude with 11 damn fights, hell donaire has fought damn near as much as this guy in 1 year

so your saying it was cool for nonito to fight prospect WV2 coming off a ko loss?
he had more than 11 fights didnt he,and who ko'd him??arce right so he is taking both out in 1 year..rigo can get it next year...
Donaire should be fighter of the year hands down,he has me as a fan..2012 he decided to take year round testing won 2 world titles and a lineal title...now he will close the year by fighting a hall of famer....thats bad ass
so he should have fought Arce then fight for a title?hell he is doing both there is 0 to complain about nothing..dude is being extremely active, there is nothing to complain about
so your saying it was cool for nonito to fight prospect WV2 coming off a ko loss?
this is his 4th fight 2012, imho this good enough fight to finish the year...
thank you he will have fought 4 times in 1 damn year and people are talking bout some dude with 11 damn fights, hell donaire has fought damn near as much as this guy in 1 year
Yeah there is. You're going to tell me fighting Arce right now is better than fighting Rigondeaux.....??? After all, you're obsessed with titles, Rigondeaux has a title.
And yes, he should have just gotten Arce out of the way earlier this year instead of fighting the guy Arce TKO'd last year.
Donaire-Arce is going to be fun to watch while it lasts, but it's not the best fight for him.
