We all have a favorite fighter. How did that happen?
I remember my dad waking me up at 9:30 or so, telling me the fights were on. I was about 12 and he didn't let me up that late that often, so I got up and watched the first fight, Daniel Santos vs Antonio Margarito. Good fight, but then came Cotto vs Kelson Pinto. He just barnstormed Pinto and I remember saying to my dad, "That's my favorite fighter." Been a Cotto fan ever since. :boxing:
EDIT: For clarification purposes, I'm refering to both all-time and current favorites. I'm relatively young, so Cotto is my all-time and current favorite.
My favorite fighter, probably ever was/is Jake LaMotta. Mind you, I never seen him fight. I remember watching the movie starring Robert DeNiro, Raging Bull and I was like six or seven with my grandfather and just in awe. My grandpa use to always praise PR greats, some mexican greats and so forth, but man, he always said LaMotta was the toughest man to ever put gloves on, so watching the movie I was just hooked to boxing and LaMotta. I was a fan of the sport since.
Currently, my favorite fighter is Cotto. He brings so many tangibles and qualities. First, he has skills/technique which I highly value. Secondly, he's just a tough guy, like a LaMotta and he has alot of heart. He was hurt bad in the Margs and Pacquiao fight but lasted as long as he could. He was considered/still is shot to ***** against Mayweather and was with him till the end. He's backed down from nobody, he takes one anyone and isn't afraid of the avoided fighters and more recently is in a position to easily duck a fighter who is young, prime and boast many physical advantages over him in Trout, but he's giving him a chance. I respect that.
But what made me a fan of him was the Torres fight. I remember watching a fight or two of him prior and was just like 'meh, he's pretty decent' but not much else, then boom, the Torres fight, that I have no idea how he stayed upright after eating so much leather. He took everything Torres through at him and then came back to get the KO. From then on, I really took notice that he had more than just skill, but heart. So been a fan since

Current favorite has to be Bradley, mostly cuz hes a local guy in my town but also cuz of his underrated overall skills and he ducks nobody (though I know he is hardcore hated cuz of the stupid pacquiao fight), but I got to defend my boy Margarito I know a lot of fans see him as a cheater and he lost against cotto the 2nd time but even in his loss he never backed up he was a come forward all action guy and besides his already messed up eye which made him look badly hurt he was not hurt by cotto's punches at all ( cuz of pacquiao) I believe he would have stopped cotto a second time had they not stopped the fight...
I remember my dad taking me to his friends house and I saw Tito fight for the first time. He was fighting on a Chavez undercard when he fought Yori Boy Campos and knocked him out. He really impressed me the way he won I liked how he was always calling out Sweet Pea wanting to fight him all the time. He was always calling out fighters wanting to fight the best.

I hated Floyd until he retired then I felt we needed a slick flashy boxer. When he fought JMM I was MORE than impressed. But when he beat Shane I was like WHOOAAA. I spent the time between the mosley fight and the cotto fight taking up for him, until he said take the test after the cotto fight.
Funny story of how I became a Bradley fan (he's not really my absolute favorite current fighter, but he just has the most interesting story)
First time I saw him was the replay of his fight with Witter the day before he fault Holt live... I remember watching that thinking, who ever this Bradley guy is, I don't expect him to last long
Than the Holt fight happened, and I thought even less of him... I respected how well he took the power shots from Holt, but when u look at how he fought... To me, it looked more like Holt let Bradley outwork him... If he WANTED to box and use his clearly superior talent more effectively, he would have won
Didn't officially think anything of him until he fought Peterson... At that point I realized he was the real deal... He fought on the inside, the outside, and just dominated a highly touted prospect that was significantly bigger than him... What could I say?
I remember being a huge Ray Leonard fan before I even really liked and respected boxing... And in loving Ray, I hated Duran (just becuz Duran beat him, and said all those mean things :( )
But when I got older and started respecting the sport, and even practicing the craft... I started to respect fighters that didn't look like Ali a bit more than those that did, and soon I fell in love with the inside game
And if u love inside fighting, u love Duran becuz he was the master at it... Another reason I love Duran... He's not a one trick pony... He's a master on the inside, and a master on the outside too...
To this day, fighters like Bradley, Guerrero, Ward, and Martinez (guys that can do it all) are my favorite fighters
i love skilled boxing and saw floyd recieve so much hate from these so called boxing fans so i became a fan. he does just enough to keep the hate rolling but he keeps on winning and that is success.
I used to hate Mayweather like crazy until he fought Hatton. After he destroyed Hatton I just realized how skillfull the dude is. I was sad when he said he was gonna retire.I just wish he would fight more often. Its gonna be a long time before someone has skilled as him comes along.
I first watched Cotto vs Quintana and he dominated him. i didn't know much about boxing at the time since i was only 12, but I started to like him and made my dad keep up and find out when Cotto's next fights were. I watched a little boxing before than, but that's when I really started liking it.
bernard hopkins cause he is one of the greatest middleweights of all time. win, lose, or draw, when you fought bhop, you knew you had your work cut out for you, to say the least... :boxing:
Nah Mexicans will remember Cotto as the one who took a knee against Margs and ran like a coward against Pacquiao and Margs in the second fight.. Maybe you meant Drama Queen, cuz I agree with you then.. LMAO
Yes I'm sure all Mexicans will remember him that way :lol1: Margs will be remembered as a disgrace to the sport and forced into retirement against the man who said he hit like a girl. Sweet justice.
nope margarito will be remembered for loading his gloves and cotto will be remembered for being the drama king of boxing

Margarito was my favorite boxer to watch.. Always gave it his all, very entertaining style! His chin was legendary.. Oh and not to forget the beating he put on the fighter I hate the most (Cotto).

Ill became a fan of gerald after watching a few of his fights loved his devastating body shots and that straight right. Not to mention his iron chin its a shame we never got to see his true potential though i doubt he would of beat toney or jones jr
Cotto's performance against Mosley. I got into boxing in 2007 and had noticed his rise to the top but it was that fight that made me think "holy crap, this guy if really freakin good!". I youtubed all of his previous fights and just totally loved his style. I remember when the Marg fight came along I thought it was gonna be easy work for Cotto, he just looked so invincible, but I was in for a rude awaking when I learned that he lost.
cotto became my fave after he beat down judah at the garden
