Because of some homophobic **** Hal Adonis said? why should all amateur boxers have to suffer over one person's bull****? this seems so wrong! anything that can be done about it besides kicking and screaming?
seems like a pretty stupid thing to say to be honest, i presume it was said with negative connotations?... Assuming AIBA have no control over hiring and firing this was probably their only option to punish them. They have a duty to keep the image of their sport clean and statements like this only reinforce the idea that boxing is a backwards sport...
Yeah, a duty to keep the sport clean unless it involves jobbing fighters at the olympics.

Hahaha! More examples of what a corrupt organization Aiba is.
It's funny because most people probably didn't even know he said this, and now it is brought to everyones attention.
I never knew what he said until now. I don't remember a major boxing website even covering it. the man is a douche and now everyone pays for it.
Ok, so I cannot for the life of me find a source of Hal Adonis' comments.
What I can find, is a source from USA boxing that Hal Adonis was removed on June 4, 2012: .
What's confusing is the e-mail I received states that the reason is because he was not removed!
If you box in a strictly boxing gym, I imagine that your sparring will be affected, and maybe even hitting the bag will be affected. I am not an expert in this area of law but I suppose it depends on the waiver that you signed with your gym. If you are a gym that doesn't have waivers, well then close the doors I guess?
If you box in an MMA gym, it is my guess that they are covered in another way. The gym I box at is an MMA gym, but with an amateur boxing competition team. So while we are all registered with amateur boxing.....we most likely can spar under the guise of MMA training...
CHECK THAT: HE was removed as president, not as a board member, which is the reason for the sanctions.
yeah. My The Lock Haven head coach, my coach. Ken Cooper told me about this last week. He said him and large contingency tried to get rid of him. But a rule prevented them from doing so. They also lost a vote.
Its a pretty F'd situation.
Hold on, gentlemen.
USA Boxing has not been suspended simply because Adonis made that comment that the female fighters were gay. He was suspended and USA Boxing has been suspended for thee months because of an interview he gave in which he (among other things) said that he told boys they wouldn't be good boxers unless they were absued by their parents. He also mentioned a little girl being raped as an example of how abuse makes good fighters. Said that he smacked his kids around before they fight to get them pumped up.
Not only is the guy a true douchebag, but he's terrible at his job. He didn't have anything in place 100 days before the Olympics like he was supposed to, which is also part of why they suspended him. Don't defend this guy.
that doesn't make a difference. why suspend the practice of a whole sport on account of one douchebag? it's absurd. if they have the power to close down every gym in america, they have the power to remove this one guy from his job. all they're doing is sending out a big 'fuck you' to the people that rely on amateur boxing for their livelihood. it's a pr disaster, all they've accomplished is alienating a nation of athletes and trainers.

Wow thats terrible, Why cant they just suspend him? seems very harsh to punish the whole of US amateur boxing / boxers because of 1 large idiot.

not to mention a lot of gym's failing to pay their leases / mortgages... i'm sure that some of the gyms will never make it to the end of their three months. and hundreds / thousands of boxers will never come back to the sport.
what a joke amateur boxing has become.
I agree with this. Some gyms are not going to make it.
His statements were inappropriate but dubious and not that severe, the decision is an attack against freedom of speech in my humble opinion.
From what I know of the situation I agree with you.
It's funny because most people probably didn't even know he said this, and now it is brought to everyones attention.
It should be brought to everyone's attention. The fact that he said it wasnt that big of an issue, but the fact that he's involved in operations decision making makes for a highly volatile situation and is an insult to the sport. Imagine if the comissioner of the wnba made a similar statement??? its stating the obvious that dont need to be pointed out because its irrelevent. Being gay doesnt make anyone an inferior or superior athlete.
I got the email too. I don't know what is going to happen if all the gyms have to close for three months because they are uninsured. Theres going to be thousands of kids with no place to go.
