Rios vs alvarado was fun and all but I thought madaina vs soto-karass had a better ebb and flow plus all the blatant foul retaliation and punching after the bell gave it more drama ans better overall experience
Rios alvarado did not get me out of my seat. It was a good war but I like to see a few different narratives in a fight. Rios alvarado was a throwback, but not the best kind. It had no dynamic just static stength. Reminded me of those not so agile strong men that used to stand stationary and batter each other over 15 rounds. Brutal? Sure. Entertaining? Of course. Artistry? No.
To me Maidana displayed more artistry coming back from the brink of being overwhelmed and secured a classic and satisfying victory that DID get me out of my seat. My only complaint would be Maidana was robbed of a more substantial highlight and drama due to the early stoppage. But that fight gets my vote for sure.
very well said. exactly how i felt watching the rios-alvarado fight. it was solid but static action every round. it didn't have the ebb and flow drama of maidana-karass.

Yeah, I get exactly what you're saying. It's why I didn't think Rios vs Antillon was a great of a fight as people made it out to be. You get so used to seeing big punches that the next big punch doesn't seem as special any more. I want a fighter to need to work a little for that big punch. It's why action movies don't have explosions every other second. You need some pacing with different acts.

Even during/after the KD???
I'll be honest. I did not remember the knock down when I wrote that. Salido was so dominant that I completely forgot Juanma did something of note in that fight. I just re watched that round and even with the KD, I scored it a 10-9 round. Plus it was in the end of the round so he wasn't in much danger with the break being so close.
Yeah, I enjoyed Maidana vs Soto more, especially since someone actually went down.
I think Rios vs Alvarado is being hyped up too much. It didn't come close the drama of Gatti-Ward and Corrales-Castillo. People are trying to put Rios-Alvarado up there with those two fights, which I find ridiculous.
Juanma-Salido was fun, but it was a one-sided beat down. At no point did it look like Salido was in any danger to me.
The only person I saw putting Rios-Alvarado on that level was Dan Rafael, and that probably was because of the adrenaline of being there. It was certainly better than Maidana-Karass though. I can't tell you one thing Maidana-Karass did better, except knockdowns.

I agree there, Juanma showed heart but it was practically one sided.
Again, it's sort of pointless as it's all preference but to give a better example. It's like comparing Gatti-Ward I to Castillo-Corrales I, while I enjoyed Gatti-Ward I, I'd much prefer Castillo-Corrales because of the infighting skills that were displayed, it's like getting the best of both worlds, a great brawl with a lot of technical skill involved. Know where I'm getting at? Again, Maidana showed a lot of improvement and he did impress me, but Karass? No.

But if you talk about fight of the year skills arent as big of a factor. Otherwise guys like andre ward and hopkins would win every year yet most people think those fightstyles are an eyesore.
Rios and alvarado was an impressive display of skill and will and power. But to me madaina vs soto-karass was just as brutal. And what put it over the top for me is their complete disregard of professionalism and the other fighter's wellbeing. It was an actual fight between 2 guys that wanted to end the other guy as opposed to a gentleman's contedt.
Don't understand what you mean by that. We're talking about two aggressive, predominantly pressure fighters going tit for tat, where both were throwing short compact punches and being defensively responsible, a lot of technical skills were displayed that night, more so than Maidana and especially Soto Karass who's insanely reckless and throws wide looping punches.
On top of that, many had Alvarado leading, Alvarado gave the impression that he was going to take over only to get taken out. Don't see how Maidana-Karass comes close.

I'm sorry dude, I know it's all preference but Rios-Alvarado was in a whole different league in terms of skills being displayed. It's not even close.

Thats crazy I watching that fight last night that was a good fight but Alvarado vs Rios gets my vote. Theres a lot of people that like salido vs Lopez two or Lopez vs Ortiz also for FOTY.
