How can people rank Marquez above Pacquiao?

You cant compare opposition. Pacquiao is naturally stronger/faster/bigger than Marquez, thats why hes been able to beat those big dudes. You can however compare skills, Marquez is above Pacquiao, no if's and's or but's.

Marquez is the far better fighter based on his technique alone , based on his natural counter puncher ability .. I don't think Pacquiao, has better far superior skills than Marquez. Jmm can adapt to any situation and any style ,while Manny really cannot .. It comes down to this, Marquez will always be the counterpuncher boxer that has a better ring IQ inside the ring all the time and will make adjustments to win the fight. Manny has only one style which is go forward and not really have a gameplan or makes any adjustments when faced with a pure boxer that moves around the ring. That alone to me is what makes Marquez better and why hes ranked higher than Manny, you can almost see Pacquiao thinking twice before attacking Jmm and we saw that in the 2nd and 3rd fight which was more convincingly in my opinion. I believe Marquez beat Pacquiao in his last fight which is why he is ranked above Pacquiao. Oh and for the record I believe Marquez would of Counterpunched Margarito all day long for 12 rounds. But Pac's 1dim style somehow brought him success over 7+ weightclasses. Other than Pac, JMM doesn't have a real good result above 130. He's passed on several offers at 140, Khan and Judah for example, instead fought Likar Ramos and Fedchenko. Him counterpunching Marg for 12 rounds is fantasy, even Pac with his much faster feet and better power found Marg a lot to handle.

I feel Morales and Barrera are much higher than Marquez also.

I rank Marquez higher currently solely on the basis I felt he beat him in the 3rd fight comfortably. Other than that, I agree his recent run doesn't really merit it.

Every fighter has one opponent who seems to be there Achilles Heel. If we ranked them over the more prized and accomplished fighter in close bitterly fought battles, well then we would be calling Ken Norton the greatest.

you can't, period. marquez has achieved notable accolades in boxing, but not enough to surpass pacquiao A lot of truth to this, as great as Marquez is he hasn't done himself any justice by ignoring strong opposition to solely get at Manny, that's all good and everything but legacy wise he could have done much more for himself. Whatever happens in that 4th fight, I hope Marquez fights Bradley, Guerrero, Matthysse, Danny Garcia, fighters of that caliber. After the 3rd fight against Manny he didn't look like he wanted to box for much longer, I hope we get 3 more fights at least.

JMM in 3 fights with Pac is the one even if unoffically has proven to be better in at least one fight of the series, unless you scored that last fight in slo-mo infrared vision. We are talking about overall rankings, Barrera was twice beaten by Junior Jones but would you rank Jones higher than Barrera??!! I also love Marquez, but Marquez's greatest achievements were still those 3 close fights with Pacquiao.. Styles makes fights, and Marquez certainly knows Manny very well, but Manny's achievements in the higher weights are what made him high above in ranking compared to Marquez...

No one ranks him above Manny all-time. Manny is around the Top 30 or so. Marquez is inside the Top 100, but not in the Top 50, in my book. He's an ATG though.
