Ok guys I finally watched the fight yesterday! I had deaths in the family the past two weeks so i was dealing with all that,
I saw Sexy Sergio put on a Clinic against a maybe C level fighter that doesnt know
1. how to cut off the ring
2. how to adjust
and who was simply too scared to throw a punch.
Mad props to Sergio for sticking with his gameplan and props to Jr for being able to take a punch
that being said Sergio looked very beatable. He would get schooled by FLoyd and probably lose to Cotto.
I want to see him in there against GGG! I have GGG taking him out late and I love Sergio.
Sergio didnt wow me with his speed against a Jr that is slower than molasis going uphill
He got tagged by that snail on the few punches he threw
maybe its just me and maybe you all can post some sense into my brain ahha
Well considering he's been beaten it's not really a shock that he may look beatable.
He looked more beatable in the Darren Barker fight than the Chavez fight though IMO. Despite almost being stopped by Chavez.
Except he didn't look beatable in the Barker fight plus he knocked him down, and it was no lucky punch.

Chavez is a C-level cruiserweight
If he took all those punches from someone the same size as him, he would've been flat on his back. As it was, he's on some dodgy **** which allows him to fight much smaller dudes.
Most natural middleweights would've been KO'd had they been on the receiving end of all those punches he took. But Chavez was able to survive with enough stamina to try and rally late when Martinez had thrown many more punches than him.
Even the near KO doesn't mean he looks beatable.
He won't have to move 12 rounds straight in the same way against Cotto or Floyd which is going to make your legs weaken.
And he won't be under the same pressure of knowing the guy's 20lbs+ heavier and so can hit like a mule and and absorb your punches more easily.
This fight should me how much more Pac would destroy Martinez. Martinez is good fighter, but Pac is at a whole other lever!!!!Pac won't fight Martinez cause Martinez is not a draw and is not at the same level as Pac.
Pac is toooo small for martinez, easy fight
The problem is not that Chavez didn’t throw enough punches, he just didn’t pressure Martinez like he was supposed to, some of the fight he was chasing Martinez and not cutting the ring off properly, then he would only throw when Martinez was on the ropes.
For a guy as big as Chavez Jr he should have been jabbing. That was the biggest problem, if he jabbed Martinez he would have scored a lot more, it would have made Martinez back up and reluctant to throw his shots so easily.
or you know, leave him open for counters
Chavez Jr did what he could, keep out of harm's way until he felt safe/desperate.....if he had tried fighting harder earlier, he wouldve gotten stopped/worn down easily.....see Margarito-Pacquiao

Throwing punches from the outside at a moving target is what helped him hurt and drop Martinez.
No. The punch was well timed. Was Martinez over confidence what made him not move enough that round.

Martinez was fighting a guy 20 pounds heavier than he was, was at least 3 inches taller than he was and who is actually faster than people think he is. He swings slow with hooks sometimes but he has a deceptive jab and a quick straight right.
Sergio beat that kid's face to pieces even with Chavez keeping his guard up. Chavez felt Sergio's power and knew that he had to be weary or he would get destroyed just trading with Sergio.
Martinez is very deceiving in the way he kind of looks sloppy but he always has another level he goes into that the opponents just don't have.
Nice to see some Cotto supporters feel he could beat Martinez. Too bad the reality is the fight will never happen. I doubt Team Cotto thinks it would be as easy as some boxing fans think it is.
I would rather watch Cotto Martinezs than Cotto ALvarez
but its and easier more winnable fight for Cotto against Ginger
and it would make cotto more change
so cant knock him for chasing the coin

Martinez was on the ropes when he got hit and hurt,he wasnt moving at al
Chavez hurt Martinez with a big punch a few seconds before that when Martinez was trying to move away.

I guess what I was trying to say is that although he looked great especially stamina wise he seemed slower and more content with just jabbing and moving not really going for the kill
but then again he did alot of damage to JR. haha
I hope he gets his shot at a Cotto or Mayweather for some good change that he deserves.
Canelo dont want none of him! haha
It's 1 thing to go for a kill against average or slightly above fighters. Another totally to go for the kill against someone as big as Chavez who just may be a better inside fighter too.

its wasnt what martinez did that cost him it was what chavez did. He stopped looking for the perfect set up and just went margarito on him and threw any punches and that created opening for punch number 2, 3 ,4 before that he was throwing 1 and 2's if we was lucky.
I think after sergio got with that big right when going backwards he shouldn't of tried to exchange with Chavez. Especially not to go on the ropes. He should of just been on his bike the entire round .
But not talking anything away from Chavez his margarito like pressure in the round definitley added to the mistake from Sergio.
That's good for him. Now the top money fighters will probably look at him like, "Alright, I can work with this. He's not the beast I saw against Pavlik, Williams, Dzinzruk." Now they see flaws in him against Barker, Macklin and some rounds in the Chavez Jr fight and will want to step up now.
So I agree he does look more beatable now, but it's good for him, he'll most likely get the money fights he's been wanting afterall. Blessing in disguise. The 400-500 PPV's sold won't hurt either.

I dont know what fight you were watching, but sergio did not put a foot wrong all night. Up until that last round that is.....
He surprised me by his quickness in this fight. I thought maybe age might have caught up but nope. Accurate, quick, and smart.
