The only time he decided to trade and actually fight, he almost got knockout.
I mean I understand that was part of his plan, but the whole fight you can see Chavez just wanted to trade. It was almost like he was waiting for Martinez's legs to get tired so he didn't run so much, but his timing was a little off.
In other words, bring back 15 rounds.
If Chavez Jr. wants fighters to make it easier for him, standing in front of him that is, then he should move up. It's really that simple. One can't expect a small MW, a natural Jr MW in my opinion, to trade with Chavez.
Made it boring are you serious? That was a VERY entertaining fight... Martinez didn't even clinch when he was on the ropes he was firing off so many combos where at times Chavez took a step back. He was effectively fighting a cruiserweight was refused to be bullied into the ropes.
Calling Chavez B level is being nice on you part. Not sure if he even beats Matthew Macklin.
I just feel for the kid. lol. I know he'll never be his dad, but if he trains hard from here on out and keeps an open mind, I believe he might become a B- fighter at most.
Maybe he should just stand in front of Chavez Jr. and let him hit him. That way it's all fair and Chavez Jr. has a prayer. :lol1:
He was landing lots of power shots and combinations on Chavez Jr. Just because he's moving doesn't mean he's not fighting.
The 9th wonder of boxing!
B level? You being too generous. That dude is D level, C MAYBE. Maybe somewhere in between.
Lol.. well, you know, Martinez be making dudes look silly. :D but I believe if junior stops his games and takes training serious, he'd be a good B- perhaps someday. lol
All I'm saying is give Martinez credit. AT 37 years old he beat an undefeated, younger, bigger, and stronger champion. All this while sustaining multiple injuries. How many fighters in history have done that at that age? Not too many.

so your criticizing him for actually boxing smart? would you trade punches with a guy who outweighs you by twenty pounds? Boxing is not always about slugging it out. Its also about movement and hit without being hit. yeah thats not crowd pleasing to most but thats what boxing is. if the fight was boring it was because of chavez. its not sergios fault that his opponent failed to close off the ring and get to him besides the final round
The fight proved that Sergio is physically and mentally tougher than his style would lead you to believe. The fight proved that Sergio's skill-set is a lot more complete than I thought it was. It proved that even when he's tired and hurt, Sergio can get off the ground and still be a threat. The only thing Chavez proved is that he can absorb punishment, but we already knew that! lol
Sergio put on a masterclass, however he was seriously hurt! All realists knew martinez would outbox chavez, but instead of chavez coming off the fight with no confidence he now probably truly believes he can knock out martinez. Both fighters have stuff to work on for the rematch, martinez needs to either improve his stamina or find a way to throw less and keep chavez off him. Chavez really needs to learn how to throw a effective punch before round 6 lol.
Change your name to SonOfMexico cause you're obviously another mad Chavez fan. Go back and rewatch the fight. Martinez was staying on the ropes and ripping Chavez apart on the inside at least once every other round. Dude was toying with Chavez, period. Chavez shouldnt even be boxing, the dude is a bum.
I agree, martinez completely outclassed Chavez. However i dont think chavez is a bum. I just think he is so obcessed with becoming his dad that he fights with the wrong style.
Jr. wasn't throwing enough punches.
Props to Martinez footwork.
It reminded me a bit like Pac-DLH or Pac-Margarito.
Speed kills and Chavez needs to listen to Roach and start timing Martinez if he wants a chance at winning the rematch.
The only thing that fight proved was that Chavez can hurt Martinez. We all knew however that Martinez was faster with better skills and would largely outbox him for most of the rounds.

He's not that bad. I give him C- level.... only because of his size advantage
Taking his size out of the equation and based purely on his offensive and defensive boxing ability chavez is D level at best.
Doesn't that say something about the "A level" fighter he managed to KD?
get over the knockdown man. martinez boxed a clinic on that big kid and you know it.
Musta only been boring for the Chavez fans..chavez would get him against the ropes and Martinez would superman his way out with like 5-6 punches. Chaez couldnt even lean on him cuz he was eating uppercuts like he was eating frosted flakes in 24/7. Martinez walked him down with a broken left hand. I was thinking of putting Ward over Serg but this was impressive too. Wards was more impressive...but Dawson himself left a lot to be desired and quit. Chavez didnt. Took it like a man/boy.
I bet Chavez jr beats last saturdays Dawson. -troll face-

Yeah, he's a D level. The size advantage might bump him up to a functional C or C+, but he's pretty sh1tty. All of his advantages can be boiled down to his weight.
Hmm I always thought Arum was building up Pavlik so that Chavez can move up to 168 and beat him. But does Chavez even beat Pavlik at 168...? Something tells me Pavlik hits harder than him and can match him in size.

you crazy son... martinez was lighting chavez up... chavez's nose was busted on a few occasions and martinez even had chavez backing up... what fight were you watching?

From round 1 to 11, Martinez made it a very boring fight. | BoxingScene Community
