Very good hands and foot work another excellant athlete who became a pro boxer! Fought some very good fights and a few not so good. His ego got in the way when his prime was gone and fought when he couldn't use his experience to get over.
A very good boxer who's best years were as a Lt Heavy NOT a heavy.
............A LEGEND??? Maybe in his mind and his fanatics but in the history of boxing NOT a legend, a good boxer with speed to burn and very genetics as to his conditioning and athletic ability. As a Lt. Heavy champ can you imagine him in with Evander, Holyfield would need track shoes to make it a fight! I like Roy, he did well as an amatuer and as a pro but this legend and P4P crap goes way overboard here. Study some history of the sport and read up on methods and techniques and longevity then look at the era and if the fighter could exsist in any era and be at the top of the charts!! Just because you weren't born then doesn't discount the era's of the past. Roy is a Hall of Fame boxer but he is not a legend in the sport he might be a legend in HIS fans eyes or a top notch boxer in his era but he may fall shorter in the big picture. I rate him high but for me he's not an all time great, thats just used to often these days! Ray.
Everybody ranks Jones as an all time great from Burt sugar to a casual fan who's seen him fight. You sound bitter.

He dos not look human here

Nope.. People forget he was a pleasure to watch..
Everyone on these boards discredit him..
He WAS special..
If the ref had hesitated for a second longer Manfredo would of died
there should be a parental discretion advised label on that highlight. The following images are disturbing
Hopkins won 4 rounds against him. Its a really good fight to watch for the history aspect of it. You can see that Hopkins will be a great when he was doing relatively well when everyone else was getting dropped and KTFO by Jones. Hopkins did best when he got Jones on the ropes, a weakness with Jones that came back years later in the first Tarver fight. Hopkins had problems landing on Jones enough overall because of the speed disparity, Jones was just too fast.
Yeah they both seemed to nullify each other and make a boring fight even when they were both old same thing. Look how good Hopkins looked in his next fight after the rematch. The two of them just make for a stinker with their defenses. Prime old whatever.
Yeah those highlights are OK but how dare you compare them to these

The best of Jones Jr and what he should be remembered for.

i started boxing in 2000 , and at that time he was THE pound for pound king.
He was in all the magazines.
he not only dominated he made boxing look like it was the easiest thing in the world.
The last fight where he still had it was the first tarver fight, Tarver was at his peak and very hungry but jones out speeded and outboxed Tarver.
But it was also the first time where he started to suddenly saty on the rops because he was gassing and tarver capatilized on it.
Before the second tarver fight at the weigh in jones now looked alot older and his body was visualy looking worn out.
I knew before the fight that he was going to loose soon because his style relaid on his speed and atletismen.
On of my favorit fights was the Woods fight , Woods was a big strong prime 28 age fully fledge unbeaten fighter, in that fight Roy was soo fast and powerfull that it was scary.
At times he did not look human
This is how most people on this forum feel about him.. which is fine..
He was not over rated at all.. In fact, he was the most dominant champ in history... i really dont remember losing a round in his prime. Ive seen most of his fights..
He was truly something special.. Its really easy to sit here and say he was over rated and fought bums.. Fact of the matter is, in his prime, he was pretty much undefeated (griffin was a DQ). He beat a Prime Toney, and Hopkins no sweat..
He isnt even a former shell of himself. Hes just a journeyman who is content to fight for money..
Roy was truly great.. fastest hands ever p4p (meldrick taylor gives him a run for his money)

prime roy jones athleticism was at the ultimate level, and its hard to find someone who can beat him at his A-game p2p.. he even dominated hopkins' skill, and that proves it all..and don't say hopkins wasn't good at that time, because he was..
roy jones jr was probably on of the most overrated fighters ever, in his prime he looked spectacular against bums and cab drivers and then he moved up to heavyweight and fought john ruiz(r u kidding me) and won a paper championship and didnt roy jones duck that eastern european guy, forgot what his name was

Hopefully he'll be remember for his prime greatness, getting knocked out repeatedly by bums is not helping. He should have retired a long time ago.
Indeed, its sad seeing him still fighting he should have stopped after Ruiz.
