Incase anyone missed it, there was an Azerbaijan -vs- Japan bantamweight bout today at the London Olympics. It saw the AZE fighter knocked down multiple times in the 3rd round without receiving an 8 count, and it appeared he was not fit to continue. The fighter who should have been stopped, shockingly won the decision..
Teddy Atlas mentioned he was aware of a report regarding Azerbaijan paying 9 million USD to AIBA in return for 2 gold medals at the London Olympics. I apologize if I have any of these details incorrect. I just happened to google what Atlas said and here is what came up. The article is old, but I think now in light of the AZE/JAP olympic travesty, maybe this will be looked more into. Here it is:

AIBA has since overturned the fight:
Dan Rafael @danrafaelespn
They did the right thing. AIBA overturned result of Satoshi Shimizu (Japan)-Magomed Abdulhamidov (Azerbaijan) bantamt bout. Shimuzu advances
But these Olympic rules and how they're being administered is madness. Common sense would dictate that after this blatant incompetence/corruption? Olympic boxing should see some level of reform now.
Please discuss
What a ****in disgrace. Every time you feel that something good can come out for boxing, it turns around and ****s things up even more. As if we don't got enough issues in the professional circuit, but now ****'s ****in up here too. Good job IOC, good ****in job!

yeah bro, i saw it too...kid was dropped 6 times and the rules state the fight should bve stopped after a 3rd kd. These refs for boxing in the olypics have been blowing it!

Man I told you about these olympics in that other thread. And why even superstars of the sport would get the shaft in the olympic system.
That was f'ed up to watch. I wanted to crack that ref's jaw.
I can't find this video anywhere

Good news: AIBA expelled horrible #boxing referee Ishanguly Meretnyyazov (Turkmenistan) the Olympics for his woeful performance yesterday.
Expulsion is certainly not enough. When you have someone missing by thaaat much? The training or vetting process has to have a deep issue. That's literally throwing a cup of water at a full forrest fighter.
I agree he should be investigated for corruption.
I was watching these matches feeling like I was in the Twilight Zone. Boxing is destroying itself. They REALLY NEED to go back to the 10 point must system like regular boxing and judge accordingly.
the point system doesn't make an ounce of difference. the problem is corruption, not incompetence or a flawed system.
Do you think it was incompetence or corruption or... both? That whole thing confused me. And maybe to confuse us more, the next ref was super engaging and DQ'd the Iranian.

atlas actually said this a couple days ago during the 1ST FIGHT OF THE GAMES good call by teddy i watched the fight and it was the single most outrageous thing in boxing history , like rjj, mayweather, pacquiao, robberies balled up and shot out of a gun in to the chinese kids heart
THAT BAD
I was getting a bit tired of watching these olympic fights, but after yesterday. I'm going to be tuned in. These jokers don't know how to run these boxing fights. There is sure to be more hijinks and shenanigans today. No way they clean their act up, can't wait.

I was thinking the same thing. Worst of all it appears all the uk media are blind to the fact savon was robbed except Jeff Powell. A disgrace!
Yes, and it doesn't help that: The Iranian appeared to be too harshly officiated, and the Savon and Diaz Jr. fights were verrry arguably mis-scored. I mean there's a difference between one ref having an issue or one fight having questionable judging. But the entire day of boxing was wrecked. Oh and as the announcers said, it looked like they gave Michael Hunter a freebee round in return for the score from the Diaz Jr. fight.

The whole thing is made so much more ridiculous just by the silent nature of amateur officiating.
Imagine if a pro ref pulled something like that without ever saying a word to either fighter.
Good point, they're mute, stand extra stiff, are almost graceful with their hand motions. Like they are trying to get points for gymnastics floor exercises for presentation. It's hardly boxing.
they overturned the decision with the japaese fighter and the stuff atlas is talking about happened like 2 years ago and was investigated.
So in your opinion. There was clearly something wrong with the way the fight was ruled and judged. Not just typical incompetence. But the Organization itself has admitted that the referee missed THREE knockdowns. He scored ZERO knockdowns. And your opinion is they overturned it, so all is good? Do you work for the AIBA or are you just trying to apply for a job with them?
You gotta love Teddy losing his shit with the way he talks.
Definitely love it. On this day he started tripping over his own words and screaming. If you think about it. It's really impressive that he doesn't curse. I've never heard anyone get as angry as teddy and not drop f bombs. Don't sleep on Bob Papa though. He seems to have had his fill with boxing injustices, and having to sit through poorly officiated/judged fight after fight after fight.. He's all but completely lost his patience as well.

I watched it last go around, and there are decisions where you pretty clearly have one guy winning and it goes the other way. And I disagreed with several fights 4 years ago, but this is different. This isn't just a bad score.
A ref missed a knockdown call roughly 5 times, whilst he was beaten to the point that it was the ref's duty to save that fighter. He was a stopped fighter. On top of that they had him the winner. Kind of reminded me of when Sergio Martinez stopped Cintron, then outboxed him, then received a draw. But that wasn't nearly this bad.
Havent seen this olympic fight you guys are talking about but it sounds pretty interesting. WIll check it out. Kind of sounds like the strangeness that went on in Germany for Abraham/Miranda 1.
the olympics have always had corruption and cheaters
from fixed scoring in figure skating to the many athletes caught for banned substances & who would have thought BOXING would have corruption? china has been alleged cheats for the last few years. beijing they were accused of having over aged participants in gymnastics i think or something & now trying to lose intentionally in badminton. the olympics are a joke & full of corruption.this is no surprise to hear about this. i'd have loved to have seen atlas & papa losing their minds. god bless his soul but i wish scott ledoux was commentating too because he would have snapped along with atlas & papa
