J.Miller, of NBC Sports, asked Association of Boxing Commissions to increase time between RDs to 67sec to allow a full minute of commercials.
Only 7 extra seconds. But it could be a slippery slope.
Good luck trying to tell the paying advertisers that
these guys literally dont understand that end of things, man.
these guys (the networks,) dont get paid by the hour. if they dont sell advertisements they will LOSE ungodly amounts of money. they dont just get a paycheck at the end of the week and go home like an hourly or salaried worker.
Ya, i dont really care for the thought of changing the sports rules for the sake of millionaires/billionaires wanting to make even more money.
you'd be surprised how much your opinion would change if you were paying the type of overhead these guys pay.
and none of these guys are billionaires, lol. the producer of an NBC sports boxing card is a billionaire?
come on, man. what do you think this is? do you have any idea the value of a billion dollars?
i'm all for it. it's six or seven seconds. make them get off of their stools at a normal time and stand there like an amateur fight. if it's going to keep the boxing on these networks then rock and roll.
if these guys dont feel that boxing is making them money then they'll cut it out of their programming.
right now they're not even showing the first few seconds of the round because they're cutting it so close with the time.
Why can't they just add commercial time in between fights?
They can also cut into the action a bit. I've seen older TV fights where commercials ended after both fighters had already started walking towards each other.
Im cool with it whatever gets Boxing back on national television for a wider audience to see to help grow the sport I like. How do they run commercials for Boxing in Latin America? bc I know it is on free tv in Mexico all the time.
yah i think adding a few extra secs isn't that bad if it means broadcasting boxing to a much wider audience. just means i have a few extra secs to do whatever i want inbetween rounds..like get a drink, take a piss or whatever lol..
OMG, what's the big deal about 7 freakin seconds??? Do the normal 60 seconds, get the corner men out, and by the time the corner man are on the floor, those 7 seconds have passed. Its nothing.
Fuck off. I know Americans are willing to watch the obscene amounts of advertising time embedded in their shows but they can get to fuck if they think they can force this shit on the rest of the fight fan world.
ALSO, it's a fucking sport. They're going to water down the contest even more? it's already difficult to compare the achievements of modern boxers to older generations.
You can't just change the rules just to suit some cunts who want to sell you shite fast food and tampons.
Relax Eli.

I would be cool with that if they did their advertising on the ring girls string bikiness, and they shouldn't worry about not being enough room cause they can always use smaller fonts and zoom in:D
