The problem is he cant get out of the way of punches. He cant slip or duck a punch and he tries to throw 5 punch combinations as if he is Roy Jones. When he throws his head stays in the same place and is an easy target. Even when hes not throwing hes an easy target, but when he throws his chin and head are on a platter begging for his opponent to hit him clean.
He could learn alot from Tim Bradley about avoiding punches, but he doesnt have the ability to do what Tim does in there. He definately needs major work on getting out of the way of punches. Unless your Margarito, Myorga, or the raging bull, your not gonna last long taking the clean shots to the grill that Amir takes.
What you guys are saying is true, but it is also true that the more you do - the more mistakes you make. Khan is all over the place when he is fighting, there's too many openings to catch him with.
Take Bernard Hopkins for example, Hopkins was an offensive machine in his prime but equally as good defensively as he's ever been. Part of this is because while Hopkins made a good habit of keeping his chin tucked in, he also made sure his right shoulder was 2-3 inches above his chin while unveiling the straight right hand, and vice versa when he jabbed.
Khan should cut down on combinations, look to throw single/ very meaningful punches. Also like Hopkins, use his shoulders to cover his chin. For Khan to implement this, it all goes under shadow boxing, muscle memory, a strict trainer who's constantly gonna get at him while he's sparring. Sounds like a stretch but this is what he needs to do because if he continues like this he'll never reach the elite level.

I approve this post
Yeah, a great way to protect your Weak Chin is...BETTER DEFENSE!
Khan don't have no Head Movement or Slickness to him, he is all Offense and no Defense, no Counter Punching ability or timing either, he just has fast hand...but NOTHING ELSE!

We cant sya Khan should have had his right hand guarding his chin because he was throwing a punch. No fighter can throw a right hand and still block their chin with the right glove. His technique may have room for improvement but everyone is vulnerable when punching.
Him and Chisora made the same mistake when opening up and got caught by left hooks. If you watch the two punches Khan landed beofre the 1st KD they were weak shots. What was he doing throwing them in the 1st place.
Also did anyone notice Kenny Bayliss let him have 20 seconds to recover? He went down at 0.28 and by the time they let Garcia back at him it was 0.08
Defence is as much about knowing when not to throw a certain punch as it is about technique and what not.
Danny Garcia was winging that Left hook all night when Khan threw his right. He should have known it was coming, as it had been coming all night long. The right uppercut is one of the riskiest punches you can throw, especially against someone who's best punch is a left hook.
For all intents and purposes, it should only be used as a counterpunch. Its to dangerous to lead with, and unless you are throwing it with real power behind it, it shouldn't be used in slapping combinations.
He is just like Juanma Lopez. Had all the tools but his defence is just horrible and let's be honest he can easily get hurt.
he's much better and less reckless than juanma is but i have always said that amir didn't have good defense and in my opinion it has actually gotten worst under roach

True but a fighter can throw a right while simultaneously bending your knees so that you get low enough where a return punch will miss high. Defense isnt just using your guard. Its ducking, rolling and good head movement. Khan has none of this. If tim Bradley can mix it up with Pac and make him miss for 90% of the fight, anyone can make anyone miss while trading if they put serious work on that part of there game
Just about everybody gets hit. The point is how you react when you are hit. In the fans minds and more importantly in Khan's mind this will always be there. No one will forget what happens when Khan gets hit. If Khan continues in boxing he will be hit. No matter what he changes, all this will remain the same.
Tim Bradley, Floyd Mayweather, Pernell Whitaker, Winky Right, Bernard Hopkins, Prime Roy Jones, all disagree with this. Case in point Roy Jones Jr. Dominated his whole career with a below average chin because he never took flush punches to his jaw or head. 15 years later after loosing his cat like reflexes he gets hit flush a few times, and he is brutally stopped a few times. Defense is more important than offense, and Khan has absolutely no defense. And that is why he gets stopped.
At least we can all agree that there's never a dull moment with amir khan no matter who he faces there's always a chance he's gonna get koed, I can see him fighting brook or malignaggi at 147 but let's not forget malignaggi has a higher ko % than pacquiao at 147 so I see malignaggi winning in round 1 by brutal ko
all in all, khan is and always has been at best a B level fighter, with an A level heart and D level defense. his own mind and the minds of others on his team make him out to be this world class fighter, but sooner or later he is gonna have to realize he is not world class and never will be. he can switch trainers and game plans and whatever else he wants. he is limited by what he can do in there. his arrogance is going to get him hurt, and I hope he realizes where he stands in boxing and does not try and move up and fight guys that can seriously end his career. he has some skills, he just doesnt have what it takes to be on top. he should accept that and go from there...
khan was throwing a right uppercut to start off his combination when he was caught. garcia timed him perfectly and knew when to throw the counter left hook at that point. khan's offense is garbage and overrated. he doesn't know how to mix it up and relies to much on speed by simply moving his hands fast in front of him.

You mean............
You meant to say NECK/MAIN ARTERY perhaps. His brain was disconnected from his body and he never recovered; it was a freaky and unlucky situation that could happen to any fighter BUT Khan needs work and this is a good thread.
I think his arrogance has something to do with it. He seems to overlook most of his opponents and think he will beat them easy. He can only blame himself for his downturn in career. If he could get with manny steward and use his jab he would be better. But he cannot defend himself and has so many childish flaws its shocking he even made this much money and won a few titles.

He should throw less punches himself, that would help.
I agree though, Khan is a bit thick. If he was as smart as Klitschko for example, I have a feeling he'd be far less beatable.
