Sorry if it's already been posted :
Golden Boy Promotions President Oscar De La Hoya won't reveal the next opponent for WBC junior middleweight titleholder Saul "Canelo" Alvarez, who is slated for a return to the ring on Sept. 15 at the MGM Grand in Las Vegs, but he did unveal his musings about a potential 154-pound tournament on Sunday. "Golden Boy is all about thinking outside of the box and to bring the best fights in this division. I haven't talked to anyone formally about it," said De La Hoya, adding that he would bring his idea to Golden Boy CEO Richard Schaefer and matchmaker Eric Gomez. "What's going to happen is that I'm going to sit down with Richard and with my matchmakers and we're going to analyze who we have at 154 and then we'll take it from there." Unlike Showtime's Super Six Classic, which produced THE RING's super middleweight champion Andre Ward and featured a round-robin format that lasted just over two years through December of last year, De La Hoya said his event would begin with quarterfinal, eight-man bracket. "Why not do an eight-man tournament in a shorter period of time. Why not have three fights or even four fights in one night and make it a single-elimination tournament in a shorter amount of time. It doesn't have to last a year or two years. You can make it single-elimination, and this tournament can last just a few months," said De La Hoya. "You don't necessarily have to be the winner of a tournament like this. If you fight in a great fight, then you're going to come out of that tournament a star. Win or lose, as long as you fight, you don't lose. But a tournament at 154 pounds would be incredible. It would be amazing."

MAKE IT HAPPEN!
It should be Canelo, Lara, Trout, Molina, Kirkland, Vanes (I doubt Arum will want to put his fighter in it), Gabriel Rosado and Angulo if he can get out of jail in time, if not Vanes then maybe someone like Willie Nelson (looked good against Yudel Jhonson) or Sergey Rabchenko
my concerns would be ROBBERIES and fighters Pulling Out Early
147 lb tourney would be better in my opinion:
Alexander/Bailey winner
Malignaggi
Ortiz
Khan
Maidana
Guerrero
Berto
Lopez
Bradley and Pac would be obviously left one because of Arum
I like Oscar Idea but at 140 not at 154. If he can't get Money May and Cotto on board what's the point.
To sort out the division and create a legitimate contender.
A few days ago I read on Boxing Scene top headlines that Schaefer told Boxing Scene that Canelo's opponent had already been selected. Now Oscar says no opponent has been selected yet. It's hard to believe Golden Boy when the story keeps changing. I just hope they put Canelo in with one of the top junior middleweights in the world.
De La Hoya comes out of retirement to fight Canelo Live and Free! on CBS. Oscar coming out of retirement would be the only talk on TV. Chavez vs Martinez would get overshadowed so badly. Who would pay to watch Chavez when Oscar is fighting on free TV against a young Mexican champ?
That fight would be a joke but yes it would be HUGE.
The only thing I wanna know are the fighters that ginger is fighter. He's the least proven fighter. I know his opponents would be precisely cherrypicked.
Its a great idea, hopefully there is some interest in getting it off the ground.
Couldn't see Mayweather or Cotto talking part, but some decent names would be interested you would think:
Alvarez
Lara
Kirkland
Angulo
Trout
Molina
Vanes
K9?
Maybe even someone like Berto could move up in weight to take part.
Its something id love to see.
Single elimination tournament is the best system IMO but it has to have random draw. Put the fighters names on papers, shuffle them and have Oscar or Schaefer pick them.
It is definitely. And it's good also because it's not like if you had bad luck with lottery and you lost to good fighter your career is over. You still can get some good wins beside tournament and challange a winner then.
as for the tourney..I love the idea of a tournament..as long as the participants don't start pulling out like in the super six tourney
A shorter tournament will prevent that.
I don't like the idea of a single elimination tournament because STYLES makes Fights, GBP might give Canelo the Easiest Path to the Championship, it doesn't eliminate Triangle Theories, and fighters occasionally have bad nights.

It's absolutely amazing idea, I was saying it should happen for a long time now. I only hope they won't make it in super 6 format that's just not right for boxing.
They should rather take 4-8 people and make it in regular play-off system with loser dropping out of tournament.
I'd love to see it with 8 people, that would be 7 fights all, or 8 with 3-rd place fight. 2 doublheaders for quarter-finals, then one doublheader for semi-finals and last double-header for final and 3-rd place fight. At the end we would have a winner being a king of a division with 3 great wins if all best fighters will be in. In case of a draw they should have some additional rule of who will go to next round in that casse.
8 fighters that (realisticly) I'd love to see in it are:
Erislandy Lara
Saul Alvarez
Cornelius Bundrage
Austin Trout
Carlos Molina
James Kirkland
Gabriel Rosado
Carlos Quintana
Golden Boy doesn't even need to work with Top Rank, no-one cares about that cloun Vanes anyway and he would **** his pants if they told him that Kirkland and Lara are in.

I think a Double Elimination Tournament, the one with a Losers bracket, will be more fair for everyone involved if not a Round Robin, which is the fairest since everyone fights each other.
LOL!!
and I leave for weeks even months at a time and things never change..Fantastic/Chicano finds ways to slip a Cotto diss in every day..
the funniest part is people entertain his stupidity..I did at one point..then he rambles how he's actually a fan of his..he just hates his nationalistic stans.. as he puts it..yet goes back on to hating like a vieja again..
homeboy is obsessed..its pretty sick actually..claiming he does it for fun..to get a laugh but its extreme..hes like 30 and hates on a pro boxer like he's a 12 year old disgruntled fan that didn't get his poster signed..
as for the tourney..I love the idea of a tournament..as long as the participants don't start pulling out like in the super six tourney..I think Lara wins it all to be honest..but Canelo has a solid shot as well..I'm very interested in this tourney actually..
DLH just said he had an idea for a tournament and hadnt even talked with his own ppl at GB much less any fighters or managers, lol @ these clowns hating on cotto and mayweather based on that. its sad how some ppl really are obsessed with throwing dirt on another mans name for no reason.
as for the tourney, i think its a great idea. 8 ppl might be too much, no fighter with a big name is gonna sign up for 3 straight fights, especially if they are at the end of their career. if you make it an 8 man tourney you will miss out on the biggest names, then again the division is so strong if you dont include more than 4 fighters you will miss out on some fighters who deserve to be in there.
regardless its good for boxing that these kind of things are ojn the promoters mind. thats what i was saying when everybody was *****ing and moaning about how the super 6 was some huge failure, it was new to boxing so you couldnt expect it to be perfect on the first try but it will set up great things in the future. first the bantam tourney and now perhaps this.
He ducked Canelo for being on a "vacation". Pulling a Floyd Mayweather.
If the tournament goes through and he joins up on it, I'll swear to you I'll eat my words and give him props for that. I don't know about you but I like unification and tournament type of **** to determine the best in the divisions. You're a fan of Andre Ward, you should know what I'm saying.
Yeah he won't join, but I agree with his lawyers and don't think he's ducking the ginger. I actually think the Canelo-Cotto fight is inevitable. There is way to much of a storyline and drama behind it for it not to happen. So I don't worry about it much. I actually favor the ginger by a hair.
Anyways, you know you weren't, you're just feeding your schadenfreude.
The Klits are huge draws but if they were on ppvs would they do the same numbers that Cotto is doing?
worldwide they probably would, in hispanic countriesv no but vitali always sold out the vstaples center in l.a
