Larry Olubamiwo, a UK fighter who tested positive for banned substances, has recently been banned for 4 years in total.
Should American fighters Lamont Peterson, Andre Berto and now Antonio Tarver also be banned for 4 years as a penalty for testing positive for banned substances?
I don't care much for Peterson or Berto but I'm still shocked about Tarver being tested positive, he's one of my favorite fighters. But nevertheless, I have to reluctantly include him in this equation.

Ban all them for 4 years.....what's fair is fair. The unknown dude gets a heavy penalty because he isn't a big revenue generator and the others get a break...that isn't right.
I say this......
1st time: 1 year
2nd time: 2 years
3rd time: Life
4 years for the first time is too much. Margarito had f**king bricks in his gloves and was only banned for a year.
1 year? thats nothing man. 3 chances?? your too kind. I voted 4 years but 2 years is as low as i would go for the first offence. Second offence = life. I guess it would depend on what they did aswell. Technology and severe punishment is the best deterrant.
heres another idea. Money must be returned if a post fight test shows a positive result. ya i'm harsh. But this has to be delt with severely
It won't happen. Boxing disciplinary action has gone soft in the sport because it needs stars. I mean c'mon, the sport didn't even have the heart to suspend Margarito's license for more than a year.
Would you want a fighter banned for life if he did not take peds. but a mistake was made in the testing that made him look quilty?
When has an athlete ever tested positive for steroids but it was proven to be because of an "error in testing"? Give me one example of this ever happening, just one, and I'll concede that you have a point here.
I'll wait.....
That's quite possibly the most retarded thing I've ever heard. Nobody can ever prove they "purposely" cheated unless there exists footage of these guys doing it, which there isn't. So naturally they're going to sing the same tune that all professional athletes sing when they get caught on a blood or urine test : "I didn't know what I was taking!" , "It's a false positive!", etc, etc, etc....
Every human being on this planet knows what they're putting into their bodies, professional athletes even more so than the non-athlete. It's time to stop entertaining these fabricated stories and time to start punishing these as*holes for breaking the rules.
Period.Just because someone has an opinion that is not the same as yours you don't need to call them retarded. I come hear to enjoy myself and talk boxing, not to get insulted by strangers. I don't treat anyone like that. If the amount of peds found in a boxer's system is enough to aid their performance and the test is proven to be correct then the fighter should be punished. Errors can be made in any type of testing. Would you want a fighter banned for life if he did not take peds. but a mistake was made in the testing that made him look quilty? Does this get me off your most retarded list? If a fighter really has more than a trace amount of peds in their system then they are quilty and should be punished. Are we clear?
Peterson and Berto are first time offenders and young fighters...Tarvers should know better!
That being said, Peterson and Berto will be able to get their careers back on track when they return no different then Orlando Salido testing positive against Robert Guerrero for ironically the same thing Berto tested positive for "Nandrolone"
Fighters need to work harder and stop trying to take shortcuts by using Illegal Stuff, it is no excuse for Failing a Drug Test...PERIOD!
But it is hard to keep things under control when you have no Boxing Commission and you don't have one Governing Body...it is a TON OF CHEATERS IN BOXING but when your Promoter as well as all these damn Belt Organizations is not making Testing a "PRIORITY" then what is the point...Bob Arum will just match Cheaters with Cheaters
What is a little funny though is how fans have SELECTIVE OUTRAGE, they are quick to ask for certain fighters to be banned when they fail a test or get caught "trying to cheat", you don't hear "LIFETIME BAN" but for other fighters...OH BANNED HIM FOREVER! lol :nonono:
no.. all four are vastly diffrent situations.
didnt olu-whatever say he had been juicing for like 6 years? tarvers situation isnt even cleared up yet, hes gonna challenge the verdict so hes still not even proven guilty.
bertos case to me was a clear case of contamination, dude takes all sorts of supplements and bought the stuff legally so i belive him when he says he took it not knowing.
peterson not so much, i find it hard to belive someone takes testosterone knowingly and doesnt figure he should look closely into the legal status of what hes doing.
so it depends on the situation, none of them should get as much as the british dude though. 2-3 years for peterson, 1-2 years for berto and BIG fines for both. i mean huge fines, the money from busted fighters could be spent on the costs of olympic stye drug testing.
So the lesson here is lie and make excuses and you will get away with cheating:stooges:

Missing a test, not declaring prescribed drugs, positive test of a banned substance that was inadvertently used and excused it believed. 2 year ban.
Taking any banned substance 4 year ban.
Get caught again lifetime ban.
No point in catching these cheats if we are not going to do anything about it.

I guess it's who you are and who you know?
Honestly... I thought 4 years was pretty crazy
They should all be banned 1-2 years to get the Roids out of their system. Unfortunately, boxing doesn't have a central drug testing body in the USA like they do in the UK. All the commissions, promoters, and boxers should get together and pick an independent one to administer tests to all the fighters year round. They'll have to agree to abide by doping administration's decision on bans.
I don't think anyone should be banned until it is well proven that they were purposely cheating.

And obviously a special case like Berto, should be different. Wasn't it proven that Berto had such a small amount if it in his system that he got it from something contaminated??? If that is "prove" to be the case, I say a 6 month ban for the first offense.
But if it can't be proven, than this.....
1st time: 1 year
2nd time: 2 years
3rd time: Life
I'm not sure how long they should be banned from the sport, but there's no question that they need to be banned. They're cheats, they got caught, and they deserve to be punished severely.
I don't think anyone should be banned until it is well proven that they were purposely cheating. Then ban them for 6 months with a heavy fine and a warning that if they are caught again they are banned for life.Banning a fighter for 4 years on the first offense is way to harsh. It ruins their career and takes away their means of making a living. Berto was found to have such a tiny amount of ped. in his system that it could not possibly help him in any way. It seems obvious to me that Berto took a legal supplement that was contaminated with just enough ped. to show up on the test. I think Berto did not try to cheat and should not be fined or banned at all. I am not a Berto fan but he should be treated fairly. On the others I think they should wait until all the facts are in.
I think 12 - 24 months is a perfect ban. Long enough to lose money and pick up ring rust but hopefully not too long to damage a talented individual.
No one deserves to lose their life to a drugs cheat, but equally the drugs cheat doesnt deserve to lose their livelihood and career.
yes they do,cause a loss in boxing is a huge setback to peoples careers, people can get killed in the ring, anyone caught cheating should be banned for life imo cause they are a piece of sh1t
