Sure Calzaghe's resume isn't that great but he did retire undefeated with some solid wins like Hopkins, Kessler, Lacy, etc. I hated the way he clowned Roy in their fight but I don't know why he gets so much flak on NSB.
Yet Hopkins fought about the same amount of bums in his middelweight reign but is a semi god in the US.
Kessler, Eubank>>any Hopkins win in his middleweight rein.
to be fair hopkins fought more notable competition during his career, his mw reign was indeed weaker than calzaghes smw though
Yet Hopkins fought about the same amount of bums in his middelweight reign but is a semi god in the US.
Kessler, Eubank>>any Hopkins win in his middleweight rein.
I think Bernard stopping a young prime undefeated Glen Johnson is much more impressive and a better win than Joe beating Kessler.
simple, padded record. Boxing is about heart, taking on the best. You fight bums most of the time you get hate. His style of slapping doesn't help either.

for me it's the slapping.I ****in hate his style
It's also illegal with the part of the glove that lands and he should've been DQ'd in multiple fights for non stop punching to the back of the head.
It's criminal what he was getting away with fighting at home. Subduing your opponents with a lot of illegal punching? Crazy.
I can understand if it was here and there to gain advantage, like how a Cotto will low blow you if you're way too fast or a Floyd sticking a forearm in your face, but this dude was ****ing dudes up throughout a whole fight with illegal ****.
He's smart, determined, has good agility and shows some power with punches to the body, I'll give him that.. but that undefeated record is smoke and mirrors.
Joe Calzaghe gets criticized and rightfully so because:
1. Calzaghe was a backyard fighter who only fought with hometown referees and judges, He only traveled abroad for like 2 fights one of which was Hopkins.
2. Further he only fought people when they were way, way past prime like Roy Jones Jnr,
3. Even worse he had no power whatsoever and throw a flurry of punches and the hometown referee would jump into prematurely stop the fight.
4. Calzaghe was lucky to be champion as a super middle weight when the supermiddle weight division was very weak.
5. Calzaghe he switched his loyalties around alot, he changed promotors, managers, and woman, almost daily, Alot of people do not like that, Personally I could care less but its another criticism of him.
he's a fantastic fighter, the best there ever was. 46 - 0 and never ducked nobody. carl froch is jealous of calzaghe. number 1 smw of all time
Marciano was 49-0.
Tell the story;
Slappy beat a young hyped Lacy, and old well past prime Roy Jones, and lost to an Old 40 year old Bernard Hopkins.
Hiding out in Whales, fighting bums for 85% of his career for an arena full of degenerate drunks is his real legacy.
Joe Calzaghe was the Lucien Bute prototype.
And we all see what happened when bute stepped up. Exactly why slapf@g never did.
Because his hardcore fans talk about him like he's an ATG and would have beaten anyone, and has some great resume. He has a solid resume, is a HOF but not an ATG, and was a great fighter. But his fans overrate him way too much in my opinion.
That sounds like Floyd fans to me. lol
becauses hes white why els
seriously tho
hatton,calzaghe,klitschkos
if your white and dominate ppl hate u ...makes sense??nope
if mayweaather wasnt an arrogant prick he would be as beloved as ali ..
beating top 10 ranked pussies in yank land gets respec
don't forget dominick guinn guys
now your trying to justify that pathetic 10 years? Seriously? Keep living in fantasy land. Keep searching for excuses to justify it and push the truth down deep. Like you do with that other thing in your life.

10 straight years of defending the worst title against bums not even ranked in the top 10 and getting TKO'S without landing punches is solid?
Weird, I remember HBO billing the Calzaghe/Bika fight as Joe's "coming out party" (well, for their network anyway, as the Lacy fight was on Showtime) and then listening to the commentary crew talk about how f*cking boring that fight was for the next 36 minutes.
And you didn't watch them side-by-side, that's just retarded, you may have watched them back-to-back. Even if you did watch them side-by-side(which you didn't), you couldn't pay full attention to either unless you have intermovable eyes that operate separate from one another like a snake. Which you don't.
I often do it,
Open youtube minimize one screen to half and open another and do same.. obviously you can skim view both at same time. After that I would watch 1 round of Ward vs Bika and 1 round of Calzaghe vs Bika.

This is the best post I've seen so far.
lacy isnt a solid win and he didnt beat hopkins. he did prove he was a good fighter against kessler and eubank in particular.
the reason he gets so much critisism is he never made proper use of his talent, he never took risks which makes his false undefeated record even less significant. the way he ducked fighters and held that paper title hostage choosing not to take any real challenges reflect everything bad with the sport, its arguably bcuz of fighters like calzaghe that boxing is in teh state that its in.
factor in his delusional fans on top of that.
Calzaghe beat B-Hop imo. B-Hop did nothing in the championship rounds, He lost that fight.
Any boxer with fans that hype him up to be superman will get hate. It comes with the territory.
I liked watching Calzaghe fight. Yeah, at times he would get slap happy and get sloppy but he's an undefeated fighter so I can't take anything away from him.
I don't believe he is an ATG personally but can see how some people may consider him one.
LOL. Bringer is God.
I don't know what it is about this place but people make some of the most outlandish claims I've ever read on this forum.
"I watched the fight in slow motion with the sound off."
"I rewatched this fight and counted every punch that landed."
"I watched two fights side-by-side."
Nobody in their right mind would believe this ludicrous bullsh*t.
