Thread title says it all... discuss
Chavez being the bigger star and Dibella being super gullible and desperate to get Martinez on the big stage before father time completely catches up - it's fair to say Chavez gets the bigger say in the negotiations IMO.
The ring size against Lee was troubling for a Championship fight and no doubt in my mind we get a similar case if and or when Chavez/Martinez meet up.
If Jr. gets himself an 18 x 18 ft ring, Maravilla is in for a rough night.
Expect him to piss blood post fight regardless of whether he wins or loses..
Is there any evidence out there that shows a smaller ring gives Sergio a disadvantage at all? Look at how he fights...he gets really low and pounces on guys...guys who fight like that can fight the same regardless of ring size. You won't see JCCj doing a happy dance making fun of Sergio unless he feels like getting popped in the mouth for the hell of it.
Yes, there is. Sergio does a lot of posing and resetting. His best work is also from full arm extension. The smaller the ring, the less he has to create space to pose, get comfortable, and get full extension. Also, his movement, though wild at times, is his best friend. Pressure fighters should know how not to work in straight lines, but how to properly side step, pivot, and cut off the ring effectively. These skillsets aren't required in smaller rings.. and instead, the pressure fighter gets a huge advantage because he doesn't have to exert that extra energy anymore while his opponent has to exert MORE all of a sudden, in order to KEEP creating distance, as opposed to getting distance and getting a few seconds off.
Like I said in another thread.......small rings should be the mandatory size for boxing fights. I pay to see people fight and not to run. There is no skill in running.
This is dumb. You pay to see one style of fighting then.
With small rings, there are huge parts of the game missing. The point of being a ring general becomes moot and having to know how to effectively cut off the ring becomes pointless too.
There is a reason some pressure fighters ultimately are better than others, and the small ring isn't that reason. The smaller the ring the less of a particular skillset you need to acquire.
Stupid idea.
quite amazing Chavez's team will be able to dictate everything over the p4p #3 (the ring) and vastly superior skilled fighter.
Boxing is a business. The fans now point that out everytime the duck move is pulled. They accept it when the best fighters do it, it doesn't take away from their greatness for some reason.
But yes Chavez is the star so if Martinez wants the fight, he'll have to give in to every team Chavez's demands. But if he pulls out the win anyway, I guess it makes the victory that much more sweeter. I wonder what the pfp rankings will look like after??

There is skill in running actually, and by the way Martinez is not a runner, he might have a lot of mobility but he likes to engage his opponent. You can criticize his style, but he's an entertaining fighter and not a "runner"

I suggest you watch prizefighter then

It's called the sweet science for a reason you retard. If you want to go watch 2 talentless brawlers go on WorldStarHipHop or Youtube and watch street fights. Spend your money elsewhere.
"I pay to see people fight not run. I want to see only brutal knockouts and people getting their heads bashed in because I can't comprehend how hard it is to fight for several rounds." What a moron. I assume he has never boxed before to not understand the work and skills it takes to put on a good boxing performance.

In the fight hype interview, Martinez said 20x20 is mandatory in Vegas.
martinez has a good head on his shoulders. He's used Rival in his last 3 outtings but wants to throw on a punchers glove for Chavez, despite endorsement obligations.
Smart man.
In the fight hype interview, Martinez said 20x20 is mandatory in Vegas.
MJ: Has everything been worked out as far as ring size and glove choice?
Sergio Martinez: These are the only things missing. I'll be requesting 20 X 20, but I think that is mandatory in Vegas. It will not be an issue. The gloves will not be an issue. I will use Reyes and he can use whatever, but I will request that he weighs the gloves, because we want to be sure the company he uses really has ten ounce gloves. In the past , there were issues with gloves being weighed a few fractions of an ounce too heavy or too light, not exactly ten ounces.
